  • When I sat down to watch "Die Hart", I have to admit that I figured it was just going to be another of those assembly line mass produced movies that Kevin Hart has a tendency of spewing forth by the dozen. But still, I opted to watch the movie and give it a fair chance, on the account of it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, nor actually ever heard about.

But seeing the cast list for the movie, I must admit that my curiousity was tickled, because they definitely had quite the cast ensemble for the movie, with the likes of Nathalie Emmanuel, Jean Reno, Josh Hartnett and John Travolta.

I have to say that writer Derek Kolstad definitely delivered a script for the movie that turned out to be surprisingly good. I was genuinely entertained throughout the 84 minutes that the movie ran for. So I am glad that I opted to sit down and watch Kevin Hart play himself in this spoof of a movie.

There was a lot of action and comedy throughout the course of the movie, and director Eric Appel was good at mixing the two elements into a great combination, and that made for a very enjoyable and watchable movie.

My rating of "Die Hart" lands on a six out of ten stars.
  • "Die Hart" (2023) is a movie that aims to provide comedic action, but unfortunately, it falls short of its ambitions. The film follows Kevin Hart as a fictionalized version of himself, who wants to break out from his comedy-sidekick stereotype and become a legitimate action hero. It's an intriguing premise, but the execution leaves much to be desired.

One of the major drawbacks of the film is its short runtime of just 1 hour and 18 minutes. Such a limited duration prevents the plot and character development from reaching their full potential. Consequently, the narrative feels rushed and underdeveloped, making the movie resemble more of an episodic content stitched together rather than a cohesive feature film.

Despite boasting a star-studded cast, including the likes of Kevin Hart, John Travolta, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Josh Hartnett, the performances fail to elevate the film to greatness. While there are definitely moments in which the comedic elements provide some chuckles, the humor lacks consistency and may not resonate with all viewers. Additionally, the movie struggles to strike a balance between delivering action-packed sequences and generating laughs, resulting in a somewhat disjointed experience.

Furthermore, "Die Hart" suffers from a clichéd and predictable plotline. The concept of a comedian seeking to prove himself as an action star is not entirely original, and unfortunately, the film brings nothing new to the table. This lack of novelty prevents the movie from distinguishing itself and detracts from the overall enjoyment of the viewing experience.

While some viewers might find entertainment in the blend of action and comedy, others may be disappointed by the lack of fresh content and unfulfilled potential. Additionally, the episodic structure of the film and the perception that it is a condensed version of a TV series rather than a fully-realized standalone film contribute to its mediocrity.

In conclusion, "Die Hart" (2023) struggles to live up to its comedic action aspirations. With a rushed plot, inconsistent humor, and a lack of originality, the movie receives a rating of 4/10. Although it might still appeal to fans of the cast or those seeking a lighthearted action-comedy, it fails to deliver a memorable cinematic experience.
  • I found Die Hart to be reasonably funny. Not taking itself seriously and overall a decent light action comedy. I like the premise of the secret shooting and thought it worked well. It is by no means a great movie. But it's not supposed to be Oscar material. I thought Hart was good. Travolta was bordering on ridiculous , but just about pulls it off. There was a few funny scenes and twinned with the mysterious plot line was enough to keep my attention for the duration. Not by any means a bad movie. Light hearted and silly. So if that was the goal, it is a success. I see there is sequel on the horizon. I will tune in based on the original.
  • I have nothing but love for Kevin Hart, but realistically this is what happens when you do run an empire and you trying to do everything. You simply can't give everything 100%. This is 20% of his energy and quality and another film in the last few that shows the lack and effort. The story is an extreme stretch once or gets further into it. The acting is very poor and surprisingly John travolta is the weakest one. Clearly showing if you take long breaks from your craft it does take it toll. Basically Amazon wanted a film entice people and the through alot of money at Kevin and his brand to ensure it gets that "Kevin harts in it, surely it's decent". But a very poor film overall. I would rather Kevin go away for a few years with the films and come back and bring back something he was able to really put his effort in. Cannot recommend it, tje only positive is that they kept it under 1hr 30.
  • Kevin Hart is one of those actors/comedians who does well in the sidekick role, but struggles to lead an entire movie. Die Hart makes fun of this dynamic as well as poking fun at Hart's image and acting abilities. Its also the reason the move doesn't quite work, ironically.

Kevin Hart plays...well, Kevin Hart. He becomes upset with the image of himself as a short sidekick who is just there to be the comic relief. He wants to be seen as an action star. When a guerilla tactics director (Jean Reno) offers him an action role, but only if he agrees to attend an rogue action camp, Hart agrees. The camp is run by Ron Wilcox (John Travolta) who is, lets say, slightly mad. The methods Ron uses to teach Kevin to be the hero are both dangerous and outrageous. Soon, a second actor, Jordan (the lovely Nathalie Emmanuelle) joins the camp and becomes Kevin's classmate. Even Josh Hartnett has a cameo as himself, a former graduate of Ron's acting school. Milana Vayntrub (the AT&T spokesperson) has a small role as a talk show host.

The fun in the movie is that Hart really is thought of as just a comedic sidekick. The fact that he is willing to mock his image is both redeeming and funny. There are some genuine laughs in this film, notably the early scene of Hart melting down during an interview on the live morning talk show as well as the outrageous stunts Ron makes him perform. The problem is the gimmick runs out of steam after a while and only Hart's sincerity and energy hold it together. The "secret" revelation of what is really going on is telegraphed a mile ahead, but its still entertaining. Still, this is a decent 84 minutes of insanity that was well worth the time.
  • A movie that delivers exactly as expected. Kevin Hart is perfectly cast as Kevin Hart - he delivers the completely unfunny nuances of Kevin Hart perfectly.

Almost a laugh an hour, the movie is well paced. The action sequences lack action and the comedy sequences lack comedy. It's like watching a Kevin Hart "comedy" special. The laughs are all forced.

On the plus side, vegan Nathalie Emmanuel is - as always - very easy on the eye. And the fact that she doesn't mention veganism despite being handed jerky (huge spoiler, sorry) was a huge step in her acting career.

All in all, it's a movie that was made by somebody and directed by somebody and had people in it who acted. Partially. 3/10.
  • Actually it wasn't bad for starters, based on the fact he turned his desire to a movie within the movie is kind of moving, basically in all honesty comedy my man is never easy but this guy pulls it out like water being drinked straight from a mug in his case he's a water tank, aww i really laughed it's funny collected brushed clean kind of like what comedy in my opinion solid foundation should be like the structure is so firm that you can't just get enough of this guy and his movies kevin hart is to me another action comedy star why because he always comes through for me when i need a good laugh, thanks man the world appreciates you.

Seriously, how is this even a movie? The acting was truly terrible (why is travolta still being hired!?), but I continued watching because it was a Kevin Hart movie (usually funny) and I thought it was going to get better.....bud sadly it never did. The story dragged on, and the storyline seemed to be made as a joke but was so bad the movie itself was a joke. A waste of resources, and a waste of my time watching it. The movie was only 85 minutes but felt like hours.

I've never made a review on this website, but this movie was literally so bad I felt I had to comment. I would have given 0 stars if possible. Just awful.

No pun intended - just the other day I was talking with a friend and we thought "any movie that has a variant, an idea of a famous person/actor in it, is good ... well at least the ones we watched, right?" ... and it was right up to that moment. We were talking about Nic Cage playing Nic Cage (well a version of himself) and certainly John Malkovich ... even JCVD (or Jean Claude van Damme for you) is just amazing.

Well this movie is anything but ... but instead of going low (I would have given this a solid 6 to be honest), I thought ... well this has Nathalie Emmanuel in it ... so I'll go high(er) than that. I hope you can bear with me. And the movie is kind of fun - it may have certain people and call certain people by their rightful name ... and then it has John Travolta ... being someone else than himself. Well character name wise ... he could be as crazy in real life, right? I am just kidding of course ... good performance by him too.

Still way over the top - you have to dig it, to love it. Talking of loving it - where was the Rock? All that name calling, but no dice? Would have been fun - on the other hand, he would have stolen the sunshine from all others involved I reckon ... well there is the sequel so ... maybe there? (no is the answer in case you don't want to check for him there)
  • Stupid ... just so stupid! Seriously stupid to a point where I am dumbfounded about my self for having sat through it almost entirely. I probably skipped a good 5-10minutes; Dont get me wrong I love Nathalie and Jean but this was like watching a god damn Segal movie post 1990 like after Under Siege when he started thinking hes an actual martial artist.

I fully believe Kevin Hart could be a leading (point man) action star if he would literally take ANY of his roles seriously and not as a joke. Hell look at Keanu doing John Wick. If you want to lead then train like like and make a serious flick.

    This was great!

I never disliked anything about Kevin Hart, I just avoided him because he seemed way over exposed!

He's in everything, and now with others who are over exposed such as the Rock!

I think it's fantastic when a big name (and maybe big ego, I don't know the man) makes a film that spoofs themselves!

Kevin Hart puts it all out there, in this film and by golly this script delivers!

    Bravo and well done!

The cast is outrageous! They are all wonderful!

Josh HARTnett is a great touch.

Travolta! My goodness! This is why we've always loved you, Sir!

This is good enough to watch again and I find few shows worthy.

Maybe I will try the series!

Thanks Kevin and all involved for a masterful distraction!
  • I gave this movie a chance because I wanted to see what people find funny in Kevin Hart. Never been able to laugh at any of his movies or stand up shows. I still haven't been able to laugh because Kevin Hart does not have a funny bone in his body. I really wanted to be wrong this time though. Maybe I am expecting too much from the little guy but I can really say thay I have not laughed once during the whole movie. It was touching at some moments. John Travolta was maybe a bad casting for this role too. Never acted convincing one moment and the fake teeth didn't help at all. It made him look ridiculous but not one bit funny.
  • The only reason I'd give this a 1 was that Travolta was actually quite funny, as for the rest of it, it was just an arrogant self indulgent project with a premise probably based in truth, he probably things he's good enough for anything but fact is his stature and abilities limit him.

The story was nonsensical and ridiculous and made no sense whatsoever really but it loosely worked as a story I guess, the stuff with the squirrel was ok, squirrel was about the best actor.

Also I'd put her down as lucky she's got, Nathalie is an awful actress, unless it's a bit part she is painful and wasn't good here. From the invitation through to hollyoaks, she's bad.

Worst possible plot, boring, totally meaningless storyline, absolutely cringe worthy.

From beginning I thought it's an AD, but then it turned out to be a movie, which still kept me engaged in watching because of Kevin Hart, soon it turned out randomness, extremely low budget, and clueless, the Plot seem to have been generated by a AI, very low quality.

Overall, I'm still confused about the target audiences of this film, weather it is made for kids or adults you will not be able to get, because it has the plot suitable for 8yr/olds but casual, suppose to be "funny" curses will make it seem 18+.

    Recycled garbage.

You know something is bad when you've completely forgotten about it in two years.

I like Kevin Heart I like comedies and I like action movies so the premise of this movie looked good... A few years back there was this streaming service that produced 2 minute scripted content it failed after launch this was one of it's premium properties. Sadly I did watch most of this when it originally came out it was bad then.

Now about this movie, as a comedy I didn't laugh once an action movie it was not and after re-warching some of it I noticed how dated it is, Statham was in Transporter 15+ years ago and Dexter was a thing before that, these high value properties wore dated when this was made now they show how old the people that know them are.

Ranting aside this is a bad recycled product the only good thing in this is John Travolta for kids today he's the guy your grandmother's wore crashing on in the 70s.
  • I really tried! And I mostly like Kevin Hart as a standup comedian and a lot and f times when I see him. And in Jumanji he's just brilliant.

But this movie, it took me 4 sessions to get it done. Doubting if I should watch it further every time O was a little further in this movie. I didn't like the whole acting, not that I can do it better. But after watching it, for me it's a movie you can definitely miss. Even John Travolta was bad... okay it was 'free' on Prime, and after watching the list of 'starring' I was very exited, maybe to exited because every actor was disappointing. Maybe because the whole story is just to predictable.
  • Why so much hate & so little LOVE for this gem?

Kevin Hart and cohorts delivered exactly what was promised: a genuinely comedic, hearty, action-filled, character evolution flick. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this surprising laugh-fest! Kevin Hart was amazing throughout the film. He truly is a versatile acting talent. If you enjoy comedy and action movies, don't miss this one!

On the off chance that Kevin or his underlings read these reviews, Kevin Hart NEEDS TO KNOW that the bad reviews are TRASH, and that he has a HUGE potential in action movies! People want to see you like this! You are so versatile and talented! Give us MORE!!!

If you enjoyed this movie, please leave a review showing your love so more people will choose to watch this fantastic action movie starring Kevin Hart. It deserves the love 💗

Really bad I was only able to watch 30 minutes of it, I am surprised I even managed that. I kept waiting for it to get funny or to draw me in.

It's a shame because there was a lot of good actors in it, but the script was poorly written, and the speed of the film kept changing, with not enough development of plot or characters.

I feel like it might have just been a money grab for them or perhaps a tax write off scheme, or maybe they just didn't care as it was going straight to a streaming service.

It had potential but it didn't develop, and I'm surprised to se me that they made a second project!

"All I needed was ... an actor who was afraid of being forgotten". This line makes me doubt this is an action film, and makes it feel like a biopic. Because if, as a serious actor, you are NOT taking a role in drivel like this because you expect it to be a box office success. On the face of it this movie is onanistic narcisism, with Kevin Hart making a movie about Kevin Hart being Kevin Hart in another Kevin Hart movie but now about Kevin Hart. If you start this movie with this in the back of your mind, you are in for a very mediocre movie about making a 'real life' movie. You are _still_ going to see a movie with Kevin Hart about Kevin Hart, mind you. But there'll be other actors too. Briefly. And a plot, passingly. All in all: Not good. Good enough to waste 90 minutes on, bad enough that you'll have forgotten about it before your next drink. Not bad. Just a Kevin Hart movie, in conclusion.
  • I understand the poor reviews it's a bit of a mess but it's a little enjoyable. Kevin Hart won't be an action star; like Will Ferrel has mostly done comedy and little bit of drama; Kevin is type cast I refuse to believe he'll be any different. I enjoy the bad comedy that's for sure and I'm sure Die Hart 2 is better than this I wouldn't recommend this though. Holy cow the acting is bad in this! Taxi starring Jimmy Fallon is way better than this poop of movie! I was hoping to like Die Hart more it's pretty bad, I kinda enjoyed when Kevin wasn't known like in Soul Plane I was a teenager when I watched that it hit the spot for what it was.
  • Die Hart.... from the very first i was expecting Kevin Hart version of Die Hard, to be honest that could have been more funnier and more better to watch. John Travolta could have easily played the German bad guy, but what ever he was doing in this movie, just too boring. If he trying to be funny, it was not, if he was trying to be something else, well even that was not working.

As for Kevin, well, leading, in a movie, action and comedy, the idea is good, but this was certainly not having any thing worth watching. It was an all out KH movie, but there was nothing much to it.

    A very below average attempt.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I'm not quite sure if this is a movie or not, namely because it appears to have originally been a collection of short clips that came together as a full fledged movie. It seems that the company that originally made it ended up calling it quits, probably because, well, there was no money in the idea, and that they had spent most of their seeding capital creating content, such as this. However, it has landed up on Amazon Prime as a movie, so I'll basically work with that.

It's a film where a fictionalised version of Kevin Hart is sick of being a comedic side-kick and wants to become a full fledged action star. However, an outburst on live TV sort of puts his career on ice. Anyway, he is approached by a French director who is known for his action films, and invites him to become the leading actor, however he has to complete action hero school, which is located out in the mountains.

There are a few amusing parts of this film, but unfortunately it ends up that the whole thing falls flat after a while. Okay, there is a really interesting twist at the end, well, to an extend because there is some reveals about half-way through as to what is actually going on. Even though I could reveal it, I won't because, yeah, it is a twist.

I guess the whole film is about branching out from your comfort zone, and also pursuing your goals no matter how hard it is. Well, I could lay some criticisms here, but personally, I really don't want to because, well, that sort of defeats the purpose. The thing is that Kevin Hart isn't seen as an action hero, especially since he is scared of squirrels (this ends up being a running joke through the film).

Come to think of it, the whole don't stop pursuing your dreams because, well, there is also this think about, well, the whole idea that the definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. I'm not sure if that is the same as not giving up on your dreams, but it does make me wonder whether there are times when it is actually noble to just give up and try something different.
  • Wow man! Im surprised, kevin Hart still deliver good acting

Bravo and well done guys! Travolta did well to. I dont understand ratings below 6 stars? The cast and the acting was really good for a budget movie, for me this was a 10 stars film. I really enjoyed every single moment and will definitely watch it again and maybe check out the series too.

The hole thing was outrageous, They are all did good and was wonderful, Josh HARTnett is a nice surprise in this movie. Travolta, did it like the old days. He is a great touch and very good choice. The movie was really good and worth to watch 2 times :) Thanks Kevin and all involved for a masterful distraction!

    awful
    Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure how many words there are for awful, but this movie is definitely too much money no creativity.

Kevin is a decent funny man, not amazing as many consider, but he is definitely not an action man.

Not sure what this movie is trying to achieve, but it's not an action movie and it's definitely not an action comedy, ah hell it's not even an outright comedy and there's no funny dialogue either.

Everything was predictable, there was nothing in this movie that you would expect from any kind of movie. Parts of this movie made no sense either. Everything from the moment the start up until the end was 0athetic and made no sense.
  • Kevin Hart's performance in "Die Hart" was undeniably impressive. His comedic talents shone brightly, eliciting genuine laughter from the audience. Throughout the film, there were numerous hilarious moments that kept the entertainment factor high. Personally, I wouldn't actively seek out this movie for repeated viewings, but it could certainly serve as a lighthearted option for casual TV watching. The creative team deserves recognition for their adeptness in delivering well-executed comedy. The blend of humor and occasional deeper undertones showcased their ability to create a multifaceted experience. Overall, "Die Hart" is a commendable effort that almost successfully delivers the laughs and entertainment that i was looking for. However, it's important to note that opinions on comedic preferences vary.
