Exclusive: Copper comes from Arizona, and Peaches from Georgia, but if we had to rewrite the lyrics to the Blossom Dearie standard “Rhode Island is Famous For You,” you can add film production to the latter 1,214 square mile sized state. Much of that has to do with producer Chad A. Verdi who over the last eight years has pumped out 20 features with notable homegrown titles like 2016’s Bleed for This and the upcoming Grindstone Entertainment Group/Lionsgate crime pic Vault, both which shine a spotlight on his native Rhode Island.
Vault is one of six projects that Verdi has in his 2019-2020 pipeline, which also includes Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Netflix movie The Irishman this fall. The pic reps Verdi’s fifth film with The Departed Oscar-winning director and producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff. Listen closely and you might hear haunting chants in the distance, because a prequel to 1976’s The Omen is in development at 20th Century Fox.
According to THR, 20th Century Fox is developing The First Omen, a prequel movie to The Omen, which first hit theaters nearly 40 years ago.
Written by Ben Jacoby (Bleed), The First Omen could have a director soon, as Antonio Campos (2016’s Christine, Simon Killer, Afterschool) is in talks to step behind the camera for the film. David Goyer and his Phantom Four label will produce the project.
As many horror fans know, The Omen focused on a young boy named Damien who was the Antichrist, often bringing suffering to those around him, including his adoptive parents: American Diplomat Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) and Katherine Thorn (Lee Remick). The Omen was followed by three film sequels, a 2006 remake, and a sequel series called Damien that’s currently airing on A&E.

It’s not often that a movie’s run-time doubles as both a strength and a weakness, but Tripp Rhame’s Bleed is one such balancing act. Clocking in at a brisk 1:17, credits included, we’re given a streamlined paranormal story boasting a quick pace, and little background concerning the film’s undead antagonist. Cannibal Kane is a new breed of monster, but unlike Freddy or Jason, his beginning is an unclear mess that’s overlooked in favor of a few jump-scares. Again, because the film runs by so quickly, we get our chills without much investment, yet with more attention paid to lore crafting, this could have been an introduction to a new horror mainstay. Not just a quick, spooky write-off.

Tripp Rhame's Bleed is a backwoods horror film, and with a prologue set in the 70s, you keep expecting the Sawyer clan to rear their ugly heads at any moment. However, it very quickly becomes a bit more than that. The setup is Horror Movie 101: pregnant Sarah (Chelsey Crisp) and husband Matt (Michael Steger) move out to a secluded house in your typical middle-of-nowhere hick town, where they're joined by friend Bree (Brittany Ishibashi), her boyfriend Dave (Elimu Nelson), Sarah's good-for-nothing ghost hunter brother who lives in a van (down by the river) Eric (Riley Smith) and his new-agey girlfriend Skye (Lyndon Smith). They decide to take a field trip to a nearby burned-down abandoned prison, because this is a horror film and they...

It looks like Karai will have a larger role in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, as Deadline report that the character has been recast, with Brittany Ishibashi replacing Minae Noji. Karai's origins are never alluded to in the first movie, but there have been several variations of them over the years. In classic Tmnt lore she's depicted as being either the daughter or granddaughter of Shredder, but in the new animated series for example, she's is actually Splinter's daughter, who's stolen and raised by Shredder to believe that the Turtles' sensei is the one responsible for the death of her mother. Ishibashi most recently appeared in TV shows such as Grace And Frankie, Bones and Emily Owens, M.D., as well as features Everything Before Us and The Harvesting. The actress joins Gary Anthony Williams, Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Stephen Amell, Tyler Perry, Laura Linney and Brian Tee in the...
