After a threat from the tiger Shere Khan forces him to flee the jungle, a man-cub named Mowgli embarks on a journey of self discovery with the help of panther, Bagheera, and free spirited bear, Baloo.
The filmmakers cite the classic films Shane (1953) (a child learning about the world around him), Goodfellas (1990) (a tense and dangerous world) and Apocalypse Now (1979) (a jungle trek) and the Disney nature-based films Bambi (1942) and The Lion King (1994) as an influence on the film.
Many strange tales are told of this jungle, but none so strange as the tale of the cub we call Mowgli.
When the primates kidnap Mowgli, some of the gibbons are shown walking on their feet and knuckles on all fours, similar to chimpanzees and gorillas. Gibbons do not actually walk on their knuckles, only their feet.
The end credits show a logo for Fantasound, the stereophonic sound system developed for Fantasia (1940), side by side with the Dolby Atmos logo.
