Hannah and Tahir fall in love while homeless on the streets of New York. Shelter explores how they got there, and as we learn about their pasts we realize they need each other to build a future.
The film lost its hiatus and ended up shooting the winter scenes in 90 degree summer heat in NYC, much to Paul Bettany's chagrin in which he stated, "Who could find a tree in New York without a fucking tree in it? Just so much green."
When Tahir pulls Hannah off the fence on the bridge and they both struggle on the ground, in the far away shot his arm is around her neck, but in the next instant in the closeup shot his arm is around her chest/torso.
