After getting flops from their previous works, both the director Surender Reddy and Allu Arjun are actually back with a bang! The narration is very good and though the story line looks very ordinary, the direction took it into another level. Cinematography is a class apart, especially in songs like 'Down down dappa' , 'Cinema Sopistha' and few fight scenes as well, were shot greatly. As the story progresses, it picks up pace and with the entry of Brahmanandam, it goes to a new high. Highlights for the film are Shruthi Hassan's intro and characterization , Arjun's 'Deevuda' expression , Pre-Interval and Climax episodes. Thaman was only good at the catchy BGM which takes off in the Interval and continues till the end. A complete Emotional Family entertainer all the way! Go and grab a ticket, 3 hrs of racy entertainment is assured.

sasikanth2011 April 2014Right from the word go, I was cursing myself for coming to watch this movie. The family sentiment seemed contrived, acting too loud, romance illogical, and the list goes on. But surprisingly, after almost 3 hours, I left the theater satisfied (how is that even possible?).
Scripted and directed by Surender Reddy, Race Gurram starts off just like any other commercial Telugu movie, with phony sequences and loud acting. While the first half seemed dull with mediocre screenplay, Surender manages to pull half the later half exceedingly well. The overall direction though could have been much better.
On acting front, it's more or less a cake walk for Arjun. His body language is superb, and he performs with ease. But what needs mention is one performance: Brahmi a.k.a Kill Bill Pandey, take a bow! He is absolutely entertaining.
Overall, the screenplay in the second half, Bunny's strong screen presence and Bramhi come to the rescue in this mediocre film, and you walk out of the theater satisfied. So just for that, you can give it a watch.

excaliber9911 April 2014After below mediocre movie like "Athaarintiki Daaredi" and shitty movie like "1- Nenokkadine", Race Gurram was quite a nice change. I especially liked the dialogs and their delivery. The movie did not focus on unnecessary drama like "AD" nor did it exaggeratedly glorify the hero like "1" (Normal glorification is quite common and expected in our Tollywood).
Even the few negative points in the movie did not deter me from enjoying the movie's awesome comedy. I'll give credit to script, dialog delivery, and non-deviating story plot.
It was meant to be a light hearted comedy movie and they successfully managed to deliver just that. The movie is a little lengthy though, but all in all, it is worth the money (Compare "RG"s $14 to "1"s $27). I came out satisfied with the time I spent before the screen.
P.S: If this movie was released a few years back, I wouldn't have rated it 10. But the recent movie releases in Tollywood compel me to give this movie the highest rating. -
sesht25 April 2014Flying, rolling (in the air) automobiles? This has it spades, if that kind of thing is your ... thing. Loud, melodramatic leads? Yup, right up there... Songs when there is no need , feeding our common navel-gazing frenzy? Yup. Comedy that works ? Surprisingly, in spades too (and that's what kinda elevates this one over others of its ilk, of which there have been quite a few, and will be many more, judging by the way the audiences are lapping it up). Cases in point - the entire initial 'Inside' track and 'Kill Bill' Pandey.
A good Allu Arjun performance? Standard-order, since he seems to be quite sincere in almost everything that he does.
Also, for the first time, plastic-surgery seems to suit someone.
The bad? Time for the brickbats, since most audiences are too forgiving about everything bad in movies like this.
Let me get the typical ones out of the way. Loud acting, loud clothes, loud situations, loud sets, loud everything - check. An almost unimaginable level of suspension of disbelief - check. Situations and lines that want one to scream 'BS' every time - check. Comedy that's crass, and doesn't work for you, but has your immediate neighbor in splits - double check. Bad, extremely bad CGI, that's being passed off as great CGI since AP is the hub of all things software - triple check. Gory, violent, yet cartoony sequences that keep going on (and on, and on....and, you get my drift) even after you've yawned and yawned and yawned - quadruple check (that's actually true).
Moving on to an atypical grouse - Watching movies like 'Cuckoo' reinforces the perplexing nature of wrong lip-sync in most mainstream Indian movies, esp. those from AP and TN (admittedly, to a relatively lesser extent). All the main characters whose native language is not Telugu lip-sync their lines so badly (not their fault, they're doing it in another language), and I don't know how it is for the rest of us, but it never fails to take me out of the movie every-friggin-time. I want to buy-in to what's going on on screen, but fail whenever I see no lip-sync. Our mainstream audiences are really, really forgiving of their multi-crore offerings, and maybe, just maybe, that's not such a bad thing?
I'd advise you to watch it at the local big screen, but do these guys deserve your money? I'd say no, but you'll not bother. Maybe. -
snaidu42216 April 2014Race Gurram (Race Gurram) is an entertaining movie, if you enter the auditorium with a clear mindset that you are going to watch a comic film and not a movie which takes itself too seriously. The best part of the movie is it is the first time ever that a major telugu star has underplayed his role in the climax sequences and let comedian Brahamandam take center stage and letting character actor Rajeev Kanakala do something which is unthinkable in a telugu motion picture-nope no spoilers from me sorry.
Ram (Shaam) and Lakshman A.K.A Lucky (Allu Arjun) are brothers whose sibling rivalry is something which would put cain and abel to shame and give them a massive inferiority complex. Ram does everything better and is a successful police officer and Lucky does nothing worthwhile and lives off his brother and parents.
Lucky falls in love with Spandana (Sruthi Hassan-at her best) a girl with a terminator hangover and has a very good control on all emotions. Lucky changes her and makes her a lady version of himself and at this point Ram puts a spoke in their love wheel.
Lucky bays for revenge and does something which causes him to cross paths with Siva Reddy (Ravi Kissen) a rowdy sheeter turned politician. A showdown lands Siva Reddy in a hospital and he vows revenge on Lucky.
Apart from the sibling rivalry and Sruthi Hassan's characterization, the movie has nothing new to offer, but the way the screenplay works its way around the minor nitty gritties is what makes the movie interesting.
Allu Arjun plays the same tried and tested role to perfection and his "DEVUDA!" is good and is used in the right situations. He is excellent in the climax sequences and during the interval bang sequence.
Sruthi Hassan as Spandana is a treat to watch in the first half an hour of the movie-she is amazing in the bank robbery sequence and also gives us a glimpse of her tapori side in the "cinema choopistha mama" song. Shaam does the same boring act for the umpteenth time, sad to see such a good actor being typecast.
Saloni is cute with the telangana accent and gives out a good performance especially in the running sequence with Allu Arjun. Ravi Kissen does the same thing which all tollywood villains have been doing, yell and yell and then drop down dead.
It is Brahamanandam as Kill Bill Pandey who actually steals the show-his scene with Siva Reddy is the best in the mo vie-especially the dig at Prabhas.
Music by Thaman is strangely bad for an Allu Arjun movie, apart from the cinema choopistha song-none of the songs are good on the ears. Direction by Surender Reddy is good, but I wish the screenplay could make up its mind whether it wanted the movie to be an action thriller or a light action comedy.
Watch the movie for the laughs-----just don't take the movie too seriously-just walk in and expect Allu Arjun doing an Allari Naresh and you will love the movie -

Brahmanandam, Ali, Posani and M.S.Narayana will make sure that you have a good time. Allu Arjun has improved tremendously as an actor and this movie is going to be one of his best commercial hits. The screen play, direction and many other things contributed to this film were fruitful. And Shruthi Hasan in the movie playing the female lead role, never put down the audience, she was fabulous in this film as compared to other films she has acted, trust she was just beautiful in her act. And Allu Arjun has also done a very good job. Fun-filled action thriller it was.
And yeah, it's seriously worth watching! :) -

Ram is a sincere and respected police officer whereas lucky is unemployed who wishes to work in america. Lucky falls in love with spandana(shruthi hassan) who is daughter of a millionaire bheem prakash(prakash raj). Maddali shiva reddy(ravi kishan) is a local gangster who is going to join politics. When lucky meets bheem prakash to talk about his relationship with spandana, bheem prakash said that his brother ram said to him that lucky is unemployed living with his brother's income and refuses this relationship. Furious lucky has a fight with ram in the house and gets slapped by his mother. Lucky swears revenge to make ram lose his job. Ram gets evidence regarding siva reddy's criminal activities. He is supposed to present it before siva reddy signs the nomination for election. But at that time lucky steals ram's jeep in which the evidence was so that ram will get suspended. Siva reddy gets to know about ram's plan and hires goons to kill him. But the goons attack lucky who was in ram's car. When lucky comes to know that they were planning to kill ram his brotherly love awakens and bashes those goons and beats siva reddy black and blue before he signs for nomination and siva reddy is in coma. Siva reddy's father peddi reddy(mukesh rishi) is in search of the guy who put his son in coma and lucky himself appears infont of peddi reddy and explains him that why he did it and requests him not to trouble his family hereafter. Lucky plans to get ram hitched and searches for ram's love interest shwetha(saloni). Ram and shwetha unite and their wedding plans are started. At that time siva reddy wakes up from coma and comes to know lucky met his father. His father says that he spared so that you could take revenge on your own when you wake up. Siva reddy becomes minister without election and starts plotting against lucky and his family. First, he makes ram charged in a sexual assault and make him lose his job, then he demolishes their house and expose lucky to ram that he had stolen the jeep that day due to which ram throws him from the family. That moment, lucky is attacked by siva reddy's goons and is tied upside just like he tied siva reddy. Lucky challenges siva reddy that he will dethrone him soon. Will lucky win the challenge? For that watch race gurram. Race gurram has 80% comedy and 20% action/mass. Allu arjun's character is an extension of his julayi character. The real highlight is bhramanandam as kill bill pandey who shines in the last 20 minutes. Shaam's fading career got ressurected with rg. Thaman's music is good after repeated listening. Ravi kishan sometimes gets on your nerves. Surender reddy uses his stylish making in parts. But the movie is too long. Comedy is crass. There are lots of over the top sequences. Shruthi hassan's character was initially very interesting but she is soon turned into a typical heroine. I wished her character to be the same like in the beginning. Before rg, allu arjun was only a mid range hero in tollywood. But after rg, allu arjun is today an A list actor of tollywood. But I never felt anything great in rg.

TheOneWhoAbides15 April 2014This is another paisa vasool movie but is a bit decent compared to the other recent films. This film has got some good laughs. The first half is good with decent comedy and okay screenplay up until the interval fight sequence. Wonder why all the recent telugu films have fight sequences which defy gravity! The second half is watchable. Songs have got nothing to do with the film, they are just inserted into the film to kill some time. The lead woman's character was well written but was very short and had nothing to do with the story. The lead actor's catchphrase 'deevudaa' looks cool and natural. The lip sync of villain's dialogue was horrible. The worst parts of the film are the gravity defying fight sequences which look so awful and pathetic. And we come to the character 'kill bill' pandey. Yeah it's a spoof of 'chul bul pandey' from dabangg but why the heck is he called 'kill bill' pandey, i mean why 'kill bill'?! Is it just because it rhymes with 'chul bul'? If that is the only reason it is a disgrace on the part of the writer and the director for using 'kill bill' a Tarantino masterpiece just for the sake of comedy!

Achyut_Prashast_Singh5 October 2014I always wanted to see this film as the promo and Allu Arjun's style impressed me. Since he is my favorite hero, I waited long for the movie and finally watched it. It's a real entertainer with full on masala.
Allu Arjun and Shaam's pair is really good as brothers. They look like real brothers. Shruti Haasan is good and does well in all her scenes, including the songs, where she has scope for glamour. Brahmanandam's entry as kill bill pandey is superb.Prakash Raj's comedy and performance is mindblowing. Allu Arjun's intro as a police officer is the most entertaining part in this movie.The music by Thaman is good.The fights,VFX and story are all good and have the heart in right place.Surender Reddy has once again presented a different movie before us. The comedy is also very good.
On the whole, Race Gurram is a full on masala entertainer that will be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. Blockbuster entertainer! -

Allu Arjun Really Created New Standards For Himself As An Actor in Acting, Sruthi Hassan Was Beautiful But Her Role was Very Extended Which was Not Needed In The Script, I watched the Movie in INOX, Inorbit Malad had a Bad Experience With INOX Sound System Movie was Said to release in DOLBY ATMOS I didn't see any of that Features And Sound Editing was Very Poor Dance was Lacking and i would Blame Choreographer Because I Know How He can Dance Story was Mixture of Thadaka, Julayi and many Films But You Will Agree This was a the Best Compound, Which is not Complicated Hope to See Allu Arjun And Combination of Surrender Reddy and Bramhandhan Again and Again -
shreekara-199516 April 2014Typical Allu Arjun is back with 'Race Guram', Arjun is fantastic in his acting, fabulous with his dance, awesome in action, sizzling with his style, RaceGuram is a full fledged entertainer, Brahmanandam rocks, Shruthi has done a fine job, Prakash raj makes you laugh with his comedy shade, Ravi Kishan as an antagonist had done a neat and mind-blowing performance, Shyam has also given his magnificent performance, overall RaceGuram is an awesome powerful flick, to speak about the plot its unique- Brother –Brother conflicts & sentiments catches your mind, a must watch movie for all Stylish Star's fans, except 2 songs S.Thaman's music seems to be lacking some magic, Manoj's camera works are nice, editing is neat overall technical aspect of this movie seems to be better, action sequences are stunning, Surrender Reddy's magic can be seen right after in his Raviteja starrer 'Kick', "come on, its an out and out mass movie"

First of all, I am not an Allu Arjun fan, so there is no point in calling me biased!! 'Race Gurram' is story of a family with two brothers who are a kind of tom and jerry and are face-off since child hood. The younger one turns out to become Allu Arjun as lucky( a carefree graduate trying to go to America) and older on to be Shyam as Ram who is a sincear police officer who lands in a fight with Shiva Reddy, a goon turned politician played by Ravi Kishan(aaaawwww, awesome!!!) and movie runs with loads of entertainment on how Lucky tackles Shiva Reddy!
First of all I had pretty bad experiences with Surender Reddys' films in theater like Athidhi, which was too way ahead of its time and Oosaravelli(lets not talk about it!) so this was some kind of risk I thought before stepping in the theater. But believe me you will be glued to your seats till the end and will come out with a BIG smile on your face feeling refreshed! and the credit goes to screen play and Vakkantam Vamsi(the write)
Arjun is good and usual and all the cast was perfect. Shruthi Hassan too brings you laughs!
The best part is the last 30 minutes of the film which is exceptional in the industry that has lengthy fights during climax. But this makes you burst in laugh more than the whole movie does. Brahmi as Kill Bill Pandey makes to leave you theater with the question who was the hero in the movie!!! Posani is another high light along with M.S. Narayana. I only feel Prakash Raj could have been used in better way rather than just comedy.
Overall the movie is a superb package of excellent comedy, witty one liners(without vulgarity), good cast and finally some good music from Thaman(surprising actually)
Watch it with family and you will enjoy for sure unless you are some freaky guy who says their hero is only great one :p -
braddugg4 May 2014I do not understand few things in films and this film had many of my misunderstandings.
Why an irrelevant song comes in between two songs? Why there will be comedy track in climax? Why the sub plots take precedence over main plot? Why a female lead is confined just to songs or has little space in the film? There are so many questions that will be in my mind and most times the answer is simple "It's a Telugu Commercial Film". So we have to expect the unexpected, logic has very little or rather no space. The script is written only for the hero and comedy is forcibly inserted. The audience goes to the movies for entertainment and if they are given some time pass by comedy or songs, they are more than happy.
I am an absolute misfit to rate commercial Telugu movies because for me they are absolutely non-sensical and for the common Telugu audience they are more than movies, they debate, talk over, use the same jokes and dialogs in real life and even follow the heroes.
So, I would rather refrain from reviewing this. I can simply say, I got laughter only in last 20 minutes when Brahmanandam came as Kill Bill Pandey and rest of the film was forgettable for me.
Without wasting any further words, I am going with 1/5 (purely personal rating) and that 1 is for Kill Bill Pandey. -
SimplyVish22 February 2024What should I say about this film? I am writing this review almost a decade after its original release. Yet, the film continues to work big time for me, just as it did at the time of its release. Everything about it works for me. Allu Arjun's solid performance, Vakkantham's engaging writing, Thaman's terrific BGM, songs, and re-recording, along with the master storyteller Surender Reddy's impeccable and impactful direction, all stand out.
I don't know who came up with the title, but it is such a befitting title for this adrenaline-rush-inducing movie. The direction, editing, performances, and music all complement each other brilliantly. The interval block is one of the best in TFI so far. This block is a testament to the caliber of Surender Reddy. He manages to achieve something extraordinary out of this block, which, in the hands of many others, would've fallen flat. Damn!!!
Once again, every element, including, Brahmi's block in the climax, Sruthi Haasan's track, Prakash Raj's track, and the terrific casting with Ravi Kishan, who killed his role, stands out. Every time I see him, he performs solidly, and his scenes are executed so well that they are blood pumping, Mukesh Rushi's dubbing, the terrific comedy, including Saloni's, MS Narayana's track, and Posani's track... It's impressive that they had so many elements in the movie, yet they all blended so seamlessly.
But it is also kind of sad that Surender Reddy hasn't directed or chosen an original project such as this or Kick since then. Looking at the projects that followed this movie, I presume he had to take some out of compulsion rather than his choice. Nonetheless, in Surender Reddy, I continue to believe. Thank you, sir, for giving us this gem of a movie. -

Manhas11 April 2014i usually don't go movies with any expectations,but as i very much loved the movie kick which was by the same director and with a good cast deeply somewhere i expected the movie to be different from usual commercial outings which mostly don't make any sense to me.it started well and i liked the sibling rivalry and comedy and all and it was all good if not great until the last hour where all nonsense began. a completely good movie was spoiled by the nonsense last hour ,where like all usual tollywood movies things came out from nowhere like how lucky became a police officer and all extra attention to brahmanandam , i mean i love his comedy but it should also go along with the script ,it is just that the audience is loving this let's add .overall i think it had a good storyline if not the way the things were overblown it would have been better if it would have been kept simple and i have to say its high time to stop using brahmanandam formula for the ending

telugutunes30 May 2014Decent. Very Watchable. First half is okay - simple, establishes the characters, usual comedy. Second half is good, lots of comedy towards the end. Allu Arjun is usual energetic, his vuthapadam "devuda" is well uttered. Dances are cool, not many new dance steps. Shruti hassan is okay, her 'inside' comedy evokes few laughs. Prakash Raj had very little to do and is as required. Everybody is okay. Ravi Kishan is loud and is the new villain in town. Special mention to Ravi Shankar who dubbed for 3 actors and u never notice that. Dr Bali is back with his "ooooo" action. Technical department also excelled, the sets in the songs were awesome just like the songs. Each set has a theme in all songs which match the song type like Peppy, Mass etc. DOP is cool, screenplay is okay, editing done well. Fights were a little over, but I believe that is where Tollywood is marching these days. Direction is good, he made sure the audience don't get bored. Its a good watch!
Just because I said the movie is good, don't go with high expectations. It will ruin your perception and you will try to find faults in my review -
