"Once Upon a Time..." is an 18-minute short film from 2 years ago written and directed by fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld. However, no less than 5 minutes of this movie are credits at the end, which is pretty ridiculous in my opinion. I also did not like the gender division between male and female during the closing credits for the actors. The film is in black-and-white and takes a look into the early years of Gabrielle and Adrienne Chanel, mostly at their work life. Coco is played by Hollywood star Keira Knightley and while I usually like her as an actress, I am not too sure about her in here. She has more of a modern beauty touch for me and I think she is bold and daring and I am not exactly sure if she was right for the character. I think I prefer Tautou's take on the character, but then again Tautou had a lot more screen time. I guess there is a reason why Lagerfeld (in his 80s now) has not been a more prolific filmmaker and I must say the script here really isn't that great. Not a lot that Knightley can work with. Fairly disappointing film overall, sometimes even slightly pretentious. I don't recommend the watch.
