Emilia Clarke’s arc in Game of Thrones has been a subject of both fury and annoyance over the years — and for good reason. Be it her manipulative benevolence, or little by little transformation into the Mad Queen, or her full-blown turn to tyranny — Danaerys Targaryen’s journey has been a rollercoaster ride and her character remains an enigma whose first moment is as memorable as her last, and every second in between is just as remarkably imprinted on the audience’s memory.
Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones [Credit: HBO Entertainment]But even in a character as legendary as the Mother of Dragons, there exist moments of conflict that underline the HBO series because of the socio-political climate of the reality we live in. It is one such moment that had Emilia Clarke breathing a sigh of relief while filming a particularly seductive scene on the show.

Conor McGregor vs. Dwayne Johnson: Who Cashed the Bigger Check?
Did Conor McGregor really set a world record with his Road House payday? That’s what the onetime UFC superstar has been bragging about in recent weeks, claiming he’s now “the highest paid first-time actor of all time.” If true — and McGregor, 35, hasn’t disclosed how much he got for his debut role in Amazon’s reboot of the 1989 kickboxing flick — he would beat Dwayne Johnson’s record of $5.5 million for 2002’s Scorpion King. While some have scoffed at his claim, sources indicate he was indeed paid in that ballpark, and given the Irishman’s stature in the martial arts world and the offers he has turned down (he accepted a role opposite Vin Diesel in 2017’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage, only to back out before filming began) it wouldn’t be surprising if some sort of record was broken.

Amazon is teaming with Reese Witherspoon and her Hello Sunshine banner to develop a Legally Blonde TV series. Gossip Girl and The O.C. grads Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are attached to write the TV offshoot, whose premise is being kept under wraps. Schwartz and Savage and their Fake Empire banner, Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine’s Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt and Amazon MGM Studios are all producing the potential offshoot.
It’s unclear if Witherspoon has any plans to reprise her role as Elle Woods in the potential TV series, which comes as Amazon has been scouring the MGM library to for titles to revive since acquiring the storied studio a few years ago. Don’t expect to see Kristen Stewart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although the actor is no stranger to big budget Hollywood tentpoles, from the “Twilight” movies to “Snow White and the Huntsman,” she recently said on the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast that the studio system would have to dramatically change in order for her to sign on to a Marvel tentpole. That, or Greta Gerwig would have to be directing.
“I will likely never do a Marvel movie … it sounds like a fucking nightmare, actually,” Stewart said, noting that she does like making “big movies because I like people to watch them when I’m in them.”
Podcast host Amanda Hirsch said that Stewart could’ve maybe played a version of Spider-Man’s love interest Mary Jane Watson at one point in her career, but the actor said “the system would have to change” in order for...

“There’s the richness of the storylines, which we’d always discussed, but it needed time because there’s actual unbelievable depth to the next chapter of these women’s lives and their children’s lives — because children grow up, and that’s kind of fascinating,” Kidman told the publication.
Sources familiar with the series told The Hollywood Reporter in January that Witherspoon and Kidman have an idea they are both excited about for season three and were working to put together a formal pitch for HBO.

Nicole Kidman said in a recent interview with Elle magazine that her daughter, Sunday Rose, was partly responsible for getting “Big Little Lies” Season 3 off the ground. She demanded another season after finishing Season 2 and even had some criticisms to share about her mother’s character arc.
“My daughter is the one who watched both of the series and went, ‘Okay, there’s just no question, there has to be a third,’” Kidman said, adding that Sunday gave her notes on character development. “She’s like, ‘Celeste, she’s not coping in the second one, what is she doing? I could kind of see the point of view of Mary Louise.’”
Celeste is the character played by Kidman. In the show’s second season, Celeste and her friends have to keep the truth about the death of Celeste’s husband (played by Alexander Skarsgård in the first season) a secret from his pestering mother,...

It’s near-impossible to make a revenge narrative that doesn’t serve as a commentary on clichéd gender roles. Male-centered vengeance stories, even at their most knowingly ludicrous, typically focus on wounded men aiming to reassert the dominance stripped of them; female-centered ones are about why women shouldn’t be underestimated because of stereotypical, outdated ideas of femininity. It’s an enduring, still-thrilling formula even as the boldest films within this pantheon can’t help reverting back to this template. The greatest strength of Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping’s stylish debut Femme is their self-awareness as to how pervasive this genre trait is even within an unmistakably queer narrative, making their protagonist’s quest for vengeance a borderline-b-plot within a character study of increasing moral murkiness. It won’t be anywhere near as liable for highly charged discourse, but in its best moments it feels positively reminiscent of Paul Verhoeven’s Elle,...

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos wrapped up a fun-filled but tiring week in Las Vegas for their hit show Live with Kelly and Mark.
Instead of heading home to their apartment in New York City or to Michigan to see Joaquin at his college, the University of Michigan, they are off on another adventure.
Kelly and Mark just finished a weekend of concerts where they saw U2 and Adele and then taped four shows back to back from Las Vegas.
After all that activity, fans would think that Kelly and Mark deserved a long break before the shows back in NYC next week, but apparently, they had other plans.

Just over 12 hours after winning big in the GOP Michigan primary, Donald Trump lost big today in his desire to hit pause on the $464 million judgment he owes out of a New York fraud trial.
In his second swing at getting the big bucks judgment and $112,000 per day in interest personally halted the self-declared billionaire former president and de facto Republican nominee had already been forced to eat crow earlier. Pulling a typical Trump move, the ex-Celebrity Apprentice host loudly plead relatively poverty and quietly admitted that he would be forced to sell some of his real estate properties if the court declined his stay request.
Waiting to file an appeal on the fraud trial Trump and his lawyers had tried to get the court to accept a bond of a much lower $100 million for the court freezing the process.

In a career spanning over two decades, Jessica Simpson has navigated the relentless roller coaster of yo-yo dieting and excessive exercise in her quest to maintain her ever-changing figure. In reflecting upon her weight loss journey, the 42-year-old singer has emerged as a powerful advocate for body acceptance.
Simpson candidly acknowledged the impact of her role as Daisy Duke in the 2005 film Dukes of Hazzard and recognized the unrealistic beauty standards it imposed upon her as well as other women, both in the industry and out.
Following her portrayal of the iconic character, Simpson found herself trapped in a cycle where images from the movie were consistently used as the “before” picture in sexist discussions about her body’s fluctuations throughout her career.
At just 24 years old, when she made her Hollywood debut, she embarked on a rigorous fitness regime to ensure her physique lived up to the demanding expectations set by the character.

On Monday, the woman who just won $83 a million judgement against Donald Trump will appear on The Rachel Maddow Show.
MSNBC announced late today that Maddow will sit down with E. Jean Carroll for her first interview since a jury ordered former President Donald Trump to hand over $83 million in damages for defaming Carroll.
Carroll will be joined by her attorneys Roberta Kaplan and Shawn Crowley for the interview to discuss the case and a potential appeal from Trump.
While not a huge dent in self-declared billionaire’s wallet, today’s verdict is still, in the words of CNN’s Jake Tapper this afternoon, “quite a chunk of change.” The judgement will be appealed, as the former president indicated today, but overturning the decision could prove difficult for Team Trump.

Update: 1:33 Pm: The jury has reached a verdict in E. Jean Carroll’s multi-million defamation trial against Donald Trump after just a few hours of deliberations.
The decision is expected to be read out in the next few minutes. Trump will not be there when the verdict is announced, as he left the Manhattan court about half an hour ago for the airport.
Carroll’s lawyers are looking for at least $24 million in compensatory damages, plus more in punitive damages. Trump has already been found liable last year of sexual abusing and defaming Carroll. Back in May, that jury awarded the former Elle columnist $5 million. Ever since the allegations of the mid-1990s attack came to light in 2019, the much-accused Trump has continued to smear Carroll and declare his innocence in and out of the White House. Carroll says his defaming remarks put her in danger and ruined her reputation.
The decision is expected to be read out in the next few minutes. Trump will not be there when the verdict is announced, as he left the Manhattan court about half an hour ago for the airport.

General Hospital is getting a revamp behind the scenes.
It’s been a decade of the same on the ABC soap, with only a few minor changes to the writing and producing team.
Small increments didn’t seem to work for some of the long-time viewers, who have complained about the writing for some of the legacy characters and the rewriting of history to fit the narratives of their current favorites.
Soap Opera Digest broke the news about the head co-writers, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, being out at General Hospital.
The duo has worked together since 2019, but Chris has been in a co-writing position since 2017. He worked with Shelly Altman after her partner, Jean Passanante, retired. Dan joined Chris in 2019 when Shelly retired.
Chris and Dan worked with Frank Valentini on One Life to Live and moved to General Hospital with him and former head writer Ron Carlivati...

Jodie Foster hopes that the success of 'Barbie' encourages Hollywood to put more faith in female filmmakers. The Oscar-winning actress has seen female directors battle for recognition during her career and thinks that the accomplishments of Greta Gerwig's blockbuster – which has grossed over $1 billion at the box office – should change how the industry perceives women behind the camera.Jodie told Variety: "I've had the beauty of being able to be in the business since the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and so on."The progression or bettering of our audiences translates into a kind of new thinking about who our marginalised voices are. In the old days, they saw women as a risk. Not sure why they saw us a risk – 50 per cent of the population!"The 61-year-old star continued: "That thinking has changed now. With a big success like 'Barbie', they gave Greta Gerwig, who...

Actress Penelope Cruz believes social media is a “cruel experiment” on young people. The actress and her husband Javier Bardem ban their children Leo, 12, and Luna, 10, from accessing sites such as TikTok because she thinks it easy for kids to be “manipulated” online.
“They don’t even have phones. It’s so easy to be manipulated, especially if you have a brain that is still forming. And who pays the price? Not us, not our generation, who, maybe at 25, learned how a BlackBerry worked. It’s a cruel experiment on children, on teenagers,” she told America’s Elle magazine, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Despite their own fame, the couple are keen to protect their children’s privacy as much as possible.
Penelope explained, “It’s for them to decide if they are going to have a job that is more exposed to the public or not. They can talk about that when they’re ready.

Jodie Foster graced the cover of Time magazine in 1991 when she was 28 years old and set to direct her first feature, “Little Man Tate.” She said at the time that “this is not a business that is kind to women” who aspire to be directors, but her tune has changed 32 years later.
“Sometimes I read things I said in my 20s and I’m like, really? But that’s a pretty good one,” she recently told Time in 2023 during an interview for her role on HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country.”
“When I was young, there were really no American women directors, maybe a few,” she said. “I didn’t think I was allowed to be a director. And that’s not true anymore. I couldn’t be prouder to have watched Greta Gerwig this year with ‘Barbie.’ Not only was this wonderful director recognized, but it was because there were people behind her saying,...

Orange Studio has boarded true-crime-tinged psychological thriller “An Ordinary Case” and will launch sales at this week’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris. Top-lined, co-written and directed by French cinema stalwart Daniel Auteuil, this pulled-from-the-headlines drama also boasts “Borgen” and “Westworld” star Sidse Babett Knudsen alongside acclaimed actor Grégory Gadebois (“An Officer and a Spy”).
Auteuil adapted the feature from the work of Jean-Yves Moyart – a jurist-turned-blogger-turned-bestselling author who wrote of his experiences in the French legal system – and will star as Jean Monier, a disillusioned lawyer defending a man accused of murdering his wife. While all signs point to the accused’s guilt, Monier remains steadfast in his presumption of innocence. What begins as an ordinary case turns out to be anything but.
Following in the footsteps of Alice Diop’s Venice and César winner “Saint Omer,” of Cédric Kahn’s Cannes-acclaimed “The Goldman Case,” and of Justine Triet’s...

This week’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris will kick off with the Tuesday night world premiere of Pascal Bonitzer’s “Auction” – a ripped-from-the-headlines ensemble drama set in the crosshairs of high art and high finance.
Produced by Sbs Productions and sold by Pyramide International, the art-world saga follows – among others – a hotshot auctioneer, his less-than-reliable assistant, and the working class bloke who sets the narrative in motion upon realizing that his erstwhile innocuous wall art bears the signature of Egon Schiele.
Writer-director Pascal Bonitzer originally thought to explore this world of high-verve auctioneers as a series, but keyed into the story’s singular, cinematic potential thanks to the real-life discovery of Schiele masterworks thought lost during World War II.
“I was fascinated by this collision of two worlds,” Bonitzer tells Variety. “On the one hand, these auctioneers need to play a game – they must seduce potential sellers, wresting artifacts from...
