While navigating their careers in Los Angeles, a pianist and an actress fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future.
The opening scene (including the CinemaScope logo) goes on with no noticeable cuts for exactly 5m36s. It's the longest take in the movie, followed by Mia and Sebastian's performance of "A Lovely Night" (5m30s).
I thought you wanted me to do this, it just sounds like now you don't want me to do it.
Mia: What do you mean, I wanted you to do this?
Sebastian: This is what you wanted for me.
Mia: To be in this band?
Sebastian: To be in a band, to have a steady job, you know to be... you know.
During the road rage incident between Mia and Sebastian, Sebastian is seen wearing a brown-colored shirt. When he returns to his apartment and has the conversation with his sister, he is wearing a blue-colored shirt. In the next scene, when Sebastian is practicing on his piano, he is back to wearing the brown-colored shirt. Director Damien Chazelle acknowledged this mistake in the audio commentary.
The Summit Entertainment logo has an old-time variant where it looks like a matte painting of a mountain in a box and the word "Summit" above it.
