In the comics, Peter Quill's father is J'Son of Spartax, of the alien Spartoi Empire. In this film, it is Ego the Living Planet, a completely unrelated character. However, in the comics, Ego has had the ability to sire a sibling, Alter-Ego.

During the ambush scene on Berhert (around 39:11), when Rocket is jumping from one man's shoulder to another, the same rendering of Rocket appears in two consecutive frames in this fast-moving shot.
Several credits in the closing credits read "I am Groot" before flickering and changing to the actual credit. Additionally, "I am Groot" appears in the stars twice, as a constellation and as a "You Are Here" location. Also, in the disclaimer that normally states no animals were harmed. It is replaced with "I am Groot." Before it changes to "No raccoons or tree creatures were harmed during the making of this feature. The same cannot be said for the handlers of said raccoons and tree creatures."
