Before making a series of jumps to get to Ego, Yondu tells Rocket "It's not healthy for a mammalian body to do more than 50 jumps." Then they do 700 jumps. After the last jump, Groot vomits. Which could mean that Groot is not purely fauna (plant), but has some parts that are animal.
There is a statement at the start of the closing credits: "The Guardians of the Galaxy will return." Their next appearance is in Avengers: Infinity War (2018).
