A holiday gathering threatens to go off the rails when Ned Fleming realizes that his daughter's Silicon Valley millionaire boyfriend is about to pop the question.
Many of the paintings in Laird's house were actually done by James Franco himself. He is acknowledged for them in the movie's closing credits. Franco is an avid painter and his artwork is featured in many of his films. Also see Trivia for This Is the End (2013).

Early in the movie the car is seen turning off the freeway onto "University Avenue, Palo Alto". The freeway is shown in a rural area. However, the Hwy 101 exits to University Avenue are unmistakably urban. The exit in the movie appears to be from Hwy 280, but University Avenue does not connect to Hwy 280 - the Hwy 280 exit to Palo Alto is Page Mill Road.
