If 'Revenge' S4 were made today it would probably be billed as a 'Farewell Season' and have less episodes.
That might actually have helped it, because for me there have been far too many filler episodes, stagnating the plot (thin though it is) so it stretches, just about for the 22 episode run.
With the end now insight (and the obligatory flashback episode cleared) the writers can finally tell a story with a bit of oomph about it, and it's great fun.
Even at this late stage 'Revenge' could still be an example of strong TV drama, it just wasn't overly consistent being so.
