  • Am I the only one who's seen this? Incredibly, I can recall seeing it on TV on Xmas night 1966 when I was 15. At 25 minutes playing time it looks like the pilot of an historic TV sitcom series in the vein of A funny thing happened to me on the way to the forum or Up Pompeii. But it's a one-off. Groaning with anachronisms and Flintstonesque technology e.g. an elephant-operated passenger lift! The basic premise is a "Hi honey. I'm home." 'Roman' family. Can't remember the characters' names but Del Moore and Lois Maxwell are Dad and Mom, with an adult son and twin daughters. In addition Peggy Mount plays her usual dragon of a mother-in-law character, but with an American accent? Her presence, plus that of other anglo stalwarts, also spouting phoney yank tones confirm that this is really a British production. However, the best character by far is Braggius, which is Hughie Green playing himself. He's the Club bore, and arch nemesis of Del. When Del seizes a chance to get even, things seem set to go horribly wrong but, this being sitcom land, you know things are going to work out just fine! Not great, but quirkily amusing.
  • In response to coolantic, I remember seeing as well, so that's two of us. I remember thinking it was quite funny and Hughie Green as a villain was very amusing. I remember the elephant operated lift as well.
