Chicago Fire introduced a new paramedic during the latest episode. It has already caused drama at Firehouse 51.
It was clear that things would get tricky after Sylvie Brett left the job, but the new Paramedic In Charge, Violet Mikami, couldn’t find a rhythm with the new person sitting next to her in Ambulance 61.
Wesam Keesh has joined the Chicago Fire cast as Jared Lennox. The character seems to know his stuff but also has a penitent for asking questions at the wrong time.
During one call, Lennox let the wife of their patient know that Violet was new to the job. It caused the woman to question Violet’s abilities.
Violet appeared very stressed that Lennox was undermining her, and when she chastised him about it later, she also told Lennox he had received his second strike on the job.

Film editing is a bit of a tedious process, and to make the plot more comprehensive and cohesive, a lot of scenes end up on the chopping floor. Mexican actress Eiza Gonzalez learned it the hard way.
Gonzalez has been in the film and television industry for years now. She has come a long way since her lead role in Sueña conmigo, an Argentinian production from Nickelodeon. As she made her way into Hollywood, she quickly realized that she would have to fight for her roles in more ways than one.

Eiza González is opening up about her experience as a Latin woman in Hollywood and how preconceived notions have made booking roles a challenge.
In a new interview, the 3 Body Problem star said she has been labeled as “sexy,” but doesn’t take that as a compliment as it hinders her range.
“I just think it’s an overly sexualized idea of a Latin woman,” she said in an interview with InStyle magazine. “It’s so disappointing and it’s so pathetic.”
González said that trying to get out of that box “has been single-handedly the biggest challenge of my career,” noting that “None of my white friends who were in the industry were getting that. It was just me.”
“I remember being [told for] so many projects, ‘She’s too pretty for the role. She’s too hot for the role,'” she continued. “Then I’d just be like,...

Uh-oh, there’s trouble coming to Ambulance 61 in Chicago Fire‘s next episode, airing February 21, after a one-week break. In “On the Hook,” Brett (Kara Killmer) and Violet’s (Hanako Greensmith) defibrillator malfunctions on a call, and they look for answers. The promo offers a look at just that. “There has to be an explanation for what went wrong,” Violet says. Boden (Eamonn Walker) warns Brett, “if this is human error…” but she knows that, as Paramedic in Charge, “I’m on the hook.” (Violet will take over as Pic once Brett leaves.) Watch the full video above. But remember: Promos can be misleading, to surprise viewers with a twist. But while Killmer is exiting this season, exactly when has yet to be revealed—”we have her for a bunch of the season,” executive producer Andrea Newman told TV Insider prior to the premiere—we doubt that she’s going...

Mr. & Mrs. Smith definitely didn’t surpass expectations, it mostly left us with question marks for expressions because of how lackluster the show really was. I suppose you could say there are some good parts; you’ve got beautiful sets and some fun fashion choices, but most importantly, a bunch of cameos that are meant to enhance the show considering how dull it is otherwise. Not to say that Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are incapable of holding our attention, but it’s probably a mix of the writing and the pacing of this show that had me completely bored by the end of it. And, no, even these incredible special appearances did not pique my interest in any way. However, they do add a little bit of fun, even if briefly, to the mostly tedious show. While the rebooted “Scream” franchise may be floundering, the writers and directors of the fifth and sixth “Scream” films are forging a new path thanks to a partnership with production company MRC.
Radio Silence directing team Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella, plus screenwriter James Vanderbilt’s Project X Entertainment banner (co-founded with William Sherak and Paul Neinstein), have announced a production and financing pact to make two to three genre films a year with MRC. Both Radio Silence and Vanderbilt had stepped away from the “Scream” franchise after the sixth installment and were not attached to the seventh film, which currently does not have a director after Christopher Landon exited following the cast shakeups.

Pet Sematary has been sequelized, rebooted, and now with the arrival of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines it has a prequel. Adapting Stephen King’s works for the screen is a risky enough proposition, creating new stories based on them even more so as anyone whose seen a few Children of the Corn sequels or reboots can attest. King himself however seems to be happy with this film and tweeted:
“In the book, this is the story Jud Crandall tells Louis Creed to try and dissuade him from using the Pet Sematary,” wrote King. “The screenplay takes a few liberties, but it’s a fine story. David Duchovny is excellent. The secret, as always, is caring about the characters.”

The 6th edition of the El Gouna Film Festival (Gff) has wrapped with a feeling of quiet triumph. The glitz and celebrities were largely absent, although Egyptian star Yousra and legendary French actor Christophe Lambert both appeared at In Conversation events. But in a way, this allowed festival organizers to better focus on the core values which they wish to take forward.

Palestinian filmmaker Mohamed Jabaly is leaving the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam with a major award: Best Director in International Competition for his film Life Is Beautiful. But where he goes next is uncertain – he can’t return to Gaza for the time being because the border is closed as the Israel-Hamas war rages on.
Amid the prestige and excitement of premiering a film at IDFA, the world’s biggest documentary festival, his thoughts, for obvious reasons, have been back in his homeland.
“Of course, it’s not easy when people come and ask you how are you? And then what should you say?” he tells Deadline. “It’s really difficult even to speak, but then silence also doesn’t help at this stage in our life.”

IDFA Winner Mohamed Jabaly, Director of ‘Life Is Beautiful,’ Reflects on Events in Home City of Gaza
Palestinian filmmaker Mohamed Jabaly, who won the best director award at documentary festival IDFA on Thursday for “Life Is Beautiful,” has expressed his sense of helplessness amid the rising death toll in Gaza, where he was born.
On Oct. 7, Hamas – a terrorist organization that has ruled Gaza since 2006 – launched coordinated attacks in Israel, killing over 1,200 civilians, and taking over 240 civilian hostages. Israel responded with air strikes on Gaza and has launched a ground offensive. More than 11,500 people have been killed, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
Jabaly told Variety: “I have so much pain inside me, I don’t know how I am even able to speak these words.”
“If the whole world can’t stop what’s happening, to make a ceasefire…it’s just a feeling of being trapped,” said Jabaly. “Even walking in the street is really difficult these days. Just knowing that [loved ones] have been under the bombs for over a month,...

The award comes with a €15,000 cash prize. The jury members of the International Competition were Emilie Bujès, Francesco Giai Via, Tabitha Jackson, Ada Solomon, and Xiaoshuai Wang.

Jurors called 1489, “A film that acts as a piercing light that makes visible the vast hidden interior landscape of grief and creates a tangible presence from unbearable absence. Cinema as a tool of survival—to allow us all, to look at the things we would rather not see.

Carlos Bardem and Fisher Stevens also star as primary cast members.
“We are thrilled to once again be partnering with the entire Lionsgate team, whose passion and ambition for the film are very clear,” said Guy Ritchie. “We are excited to extend and build on our relationship with Joe,...

The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam revealed its opening night film and announced competition lineups in two main categories today, completing the program for the upcoming 36th edition of the world’s largest documentary festival.
At a press conference in Amsterdam, A Picture to Remember, directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Olga Chernykh, was announced as IDFA’s opening night film on November 8. The festival, which includes more than 250 films total, runs from Nov. 8-19.
“[A Picture to Remember] presents a deeply personal and essay-style account of the ongoing war in Ukraine and its violent history, seen through the prism of three generations of women: Chernykh herself, her mother, and her grandmother,” IDFA said in a release. “In a bid for connection and intimacy, the filmmaker uses old family films, recordings of conversations, and news reports to bridge the distance between her and her grandmother. The result is a kaleidoscopic and personal film that travels through time fluidly.

Jake Gyllenhaal is teasing an iconic partnership: starring in a film sister Maggie Gyllenhaal directs.
Maggie made her directorial debut with Oscar-nominated 2021 film “The Lost Daughter.” Jake told People magazine that he would “adore” to be directed by her.
“We talk all the time and we rely on each other,” Jake said. “She sees me for all of my stuff and she can bring that out in me. And I think I would show her vulnerability, probably, I haven’t been able to do onscreen and otherwise, because I trust her and I love her.”
Maggie and Jake have collaborated onscreen together but never behind the camera. The duo played brother and sister in “Donnie Darko” and starred in two films their father Stephen Gyllenhaal helmed, “A Dangerous Woman” and “Homegrown.”
Jake previously told InStyle magazine that he has a project in the works with Maggie directing.

Michael Bay was a decade into his film directing career when Steven Spielberg and "Transformers" beckoned. He'd established himself as a maestro of mayhem — or, as we call it now, "Bayhem." He made the $19 million budgeted "Bad Boys" look like a $75 million action extravaganza, and the $75 million budgeted "The Rock" look like one of the most expensive action movies ever made. Had Bay arrived on the scene in the 1980s, he would've been making high-style, ultra-violent shoot-em-ups with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Unfortunately, at the turn of the millennium, four-quadrant tentpole blockbusters were all the rage, which meant Bay had to stifle his R-rated urges and deliver PG-13 spectacle for maximum worldwide grosses. He delivered with "Armageddon," and, to a lesser degree, the distressingly bloodless "Pearl Harbor," which gave him carte blanche to make one of the most morally reprehensible (yet spectacularly entertaining) studio action movies of all time...

Ever wonder just how realistic a big screen bank heist is? Well, there’s really only one way to find out – Ok, two, but we don’t recommend participating in one – and that’s by asking an actual bank robber. According to Cain Vincent Dyer, who took part in over 100 bank robberies over the course of two-and-a-half years, the one from 1991’s Point Break is a 10/10 example…even if it did have its flaws.
Dyer heaped much praise on the time frame that the group laid out in Point Break, saying 90 seconds would be ideal for grabbing and going before the police arrive. “Typically, once you go into a bank and the alarm is set, depending on where law enforcement is in relation to the bank, it’ll typically take about a minute and a half. You have a group of guys that are all going after the drawers, and...

There is not too much depth in Michael Bay’s characters. They act more like devices in his universe, which is brought to us through interesting yet absurd camera movements, prolonged action sequences, and an overall chaotic environment. What Bay hopes for, I think, is that before you can evaluate whether you are actually engaged or not in the story, the jarring soundtrack and the action sequences will have managed to suck you in. He isn’t totally wrong. The slick camera moves are engaging, but they have never made a movie memorable single-handedly. It’s the characters and the story that do that, and Bay just doesn’t seem to care about all that stuff, to put it bluntly. Yet, in Ambulance, he has tried to make the most of Jake Gyllenhaal’s charisma to create a layered character, even though his backstory is presented through nothing more than...

"Aquaman" and "Fast X" star Jason Momoa is a certified Hollywood heartthrob, but he's, surprisingly, only had a handful of romances through the years. In the summer of 2022, it appeared the actor was hanging out again with "Baby Driver" and "Ambulance" star Eiza González following their reported split in June of that year. While the actors still haven't publicly addressed their relationship status, they were last spotted out in public together on multiple occasions during that time.
Last year seemed like a challenging one in the romance department for Momoa, who shattered the hearts of fans in January 2022 when he announced his split from longtime partner-turned-wife Lisa Bonet. "We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times," Momoa announced in an Instagram post. "A revolution is unfolding ~and our family is of no exception . . . feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring. And so~ We share our...

Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant marks a change of pace for both its director and star. While Jake Gyllenhaal’s been on a fantastic roll lately, playing characters that range from morally complex (The Guilty) to deranged, it’s been a while since he’s played a legit hero. You’d have to go back to Stronger and then before that Source Code to think of a time Gyllenhaal played a guy whose morals were always in the right place. In Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, he plays a legit hero, Sgt John Kinley, who returns to war-torn Afghanistan to extract the interpreter, Ahmed (Dar Salim), who saved him from the Taliban.
I was lucky enough to sit briefly with Gyllenhaal and Salim for a quick talk about the movie. In our chat, Gyllenhaal explained why he opted to play a more heroic role this time and how the story...

If one were paying close attention to the recent career of actor Jake Gyllenhaal one might think he was on a mad quest to a) become a buff action star thriller and b) elevate the careers of mid/middling directors. The last three live-action Gyllenhaal movies –“Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “The Guilty,” and “Ambulance”—have all seemed like an attempt to subvert his narrative as arthouse darling, and the latter two were the best films of those director’s careers in quite some time.

With the caveat that Universal’s animated blockbuster “The Super Mario Bros. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Warner Bros. and New Line team with Sam Raimi for the latest incarnation of his popular ’80s horror franchise, “Evil Dead Rise.” This one is directed by Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin (“The Hole in the Ground”), who isn’t quite that well known outside of horror circles, but he clearly impressed those that saw it at its SXSW Film Festival premiere. With 44 reviews at the time of this writing, the movie has a surprisingly high 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which should help the fact that it has a relatively no-name cast.

Chris McKay's new horror comedy "Renfield," starring Nicholas Hoult as the title character and Nicolas Cage as a very familiar vampire Count, may serve as a direct sequel to Tod Browning's 1931 classic "Dracula." Set in the present day, it catches up with Count Dracula and his enslaved, immortal henchman Renfield as they have fallen into a pattern. As it goes: Dracula kills too many people, vampire hunters nearly kill him, he and Renfield flee the country to convalesce, Renfield finds new victims to restore his master, Dracula rises again, and the cycle repeats.
Renfield, having been locked in the same pattern for a century, has grown weary. While he is immortal and eating bugs gives him a short burst of superpowers, he hates that his boss is so narcissistic and controlling. Over the course of "Renfield," the character will go to self-help meetings aimed to support those in controlling relationships,...

“I was inspired about 5 years ago hanging out down in Costa Rica, with a former US Federal Agent, who surfs every day, living the good life,” Bay said about the project’s origins. “He supports his fun, relaxed lifestyle in Costa Rica by tracking down ‘Bad Gringos’ hiding out down in South America.”

Fifth Season chief operating officer Tim Robinson has exited the company formerly known as Endeavor Content, Variety has confirmed.
Robinson’s departure, which comes after four years at Fifth Season, is an amicable decision between the exec and leadership and he’s exploring new opportunities.
Currently, Robinson’s COO duties are being handled internally.
During his time as COO of Fifth Season, Robinson played an important role in the production company’s 2022 sale to South Korea’s Cj Enm from former parent Endeavor, and its recent rebranding to Fifth Season.
Run by co-CEOs Graham Taylor and Chris Rice, Fifth Season was founded as Endeavor Content in 2017 from production, sales and distribution assets within Endeavor, WME and Img. Last year, Endeavor Content was spun out of Endeavor, which retains a 20 stake in the prodco valued at approximately 1 billion. Korean media giant Cj purchased an 80 stake in Fifth Season.
