May 11, 1994 saw the release of Alex Proyas’ The Crow, and cinema was never the same. And now, 30 years later, we’re finally being treated to the definitive version on 4K Uhd. You know what big fans of physical media we are here at JoBlo so we’ve been highly anticipating this release. And we also Looooove The Crow. We’ve covered it on our JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube Channel and have even taken a look at its terrible sequels. Heck, I’m not sure about you guys but The Crow was one of those films I always loved to talk about on the old JoBlo forums. I wonder what they’d be saying about the new film?
And shoutout to those that were able to snag the very cool Steelbook that went quickly out of print. It’s easily one of the coolest Steelbooks out there and features an absolutely beautiful design.

It was reported last month that Kathryn Bigelow had dropped out of directing an adaptation of the apocalyptic David Koepp novel “Aurora” for Netflix as new film chief Dan Lin was starting his role. But one of Lin’s first green lights will reportedly be a different Bigelow film with a similarly apocalyptic bent.
According to a report in Puck, “The Hurt Locker” director Bigelow has been tapped to direct a thriller about the White House’s real-time response efforts to an incoming ballistic missile attack on American soil. The script for the film is written by Noah Oppenheim, and the project is expected to be formally announced when Netflix hosts its Upfronts presentation to advertisers next week.
Puck also reported that despite the green light, Bigelow was “visibly annoyed” in regards to notes from Lin asking for the film to cut its budget and length. The report adds that...

At a time when networks are loudly hunting for the next “second-screen series” (meaning a show you watch while you scroll on your phone), “Diarra from Detroit” is a bracing blast from the not-so-distant past when TV wasn’t just background noise.
“For me, TV can be a really sacred time,” series creator/showrunner/star Diarra Kilpatrick told IndieWire. “TV watching time can be like a really sweet and sacred time. And so I did want to make something where each episode felt like a full meal. That was intentional from the very beginning. You know when you have half of a piece of key lime pie left in the refrigerator and all day, you’re like, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to go home and eat the other half of that key lime pie with some peppermint tea’? It gets you through the day, you know? And I really like that about television,...

The games will mark the first time in 15 years that the Pistons have played on broadcast channels instead of cable.
Following the lead of several other NBA teams this season, the Detroit Pistons will play a small slate of games on local broadcast channels in April. The Pistons normally play on Bally Sports Detroit, but that arrangement may not be a viable long-term answer for the team anymore, and playing a small selection of games on over-the-air (Ota) channels will help the Pistons determine what to do with their broadcast rights in the future.
The Pistons will play five games on an Ota channel starting on Monday, April 1. The games will be played on Scripps’ TV-20 Detroit (Wymd). Bally Sports Detroit will broadcast the games simultaneously, and they’ll also be available to stream on Bally Sports+. 7-Day Free Trial $19.99+ / month ballysports.com

Diarra From Detroit is, at various points, a hard-boiled mystery, a quarter-life crisis comedy, a complicated love triangle (that’s occasionally a quadrangle), and an ensemble hangout show about a group of longtime friends. Some of these elements in theory make sense together — though in theory they should not all fit within the same series. But the reason Diarra, which debuted last week on the BET+ streaming service, is among this year’s most pleasant TV surprises is how much it all makes sense when you watch it.

It would be a stretch to describe BET+’s Diarra From Detroit, about a schoolteacher getting sucked into the criminal underground via a decades-old missing persons case, as “relatable.” But the sly punchline is that it starts in a familiar place. You see, Diarra (Diarra Kilpatrick) only gets caught up in the mess because she’s looking for Chris (Shannon Wallace), the Tinder date who ghosted her after a single magical evening. Who could blame her for wondering why, and for seeking out literally any explanation besides coldhearted rejection?
In this case, Diarra’s seemingly unhinged conspiracy theory turns out to be true, thus pulling her down a path that’s part noir-infused mystery and part midlife-crisis comedy. If the marriage between the two isn’t always as smooth as it could be, Diarra From Detroit still shines as a fun and funny showcase for Kilpatrick, its creator as well as its star.

In early 2021, Megan Ellison emerged from a self-imposed Hollywood exile and did something she hadn’t done in over a year: She signed on to back a movie, Nimona. There was a time when this would not have been remarkable, when Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures was producing five films a year and she was considered the industry’s own Medici, the premier patron of prestige cinema. But Ellison had backed away from Hollywood in 2019 after a series of missteps and become elusive even to some of her own executives. When her former distribution chief, Erik Lomis, asked her whether she wanted to look at some reels of Nimona, which was about to get axed in Disney’s closure of Blue Sky Animation, “I wasn’t really engaging in new film projects at the time,” Ellison said, answering THR’s questions by email. “But being curious, I said yes.”

After a string of false starts and red herrings, Kathryn Bigelow’s Aurora will start shooting this year – her first film since Detroit.
Here’s a story that we return to every so often with a great deal of hope. Reports have emerged (this time via What’s On Netflix) that production is set to begin on Kathryn Bigelow’s next project, sometime ‘in early 2024.’
Bigelow is of course the director of acclaimed political dramas such as Zero Dark Thirty and Detroit. She was the first female director to win an Academy Award for 2010’s The Hurt Locker and she’s the filmmaker behind 1991’s Point Break.
Considering that list of accolades, it’s a shame we haven’t seen a film from Bigelow in the last seven years, although every once in a while a story surfaces to announce that cameras will soon be rolling on her next project.

Alright, who here saw John Boyega on a fast track to stardom after "The Force Awakens" and said something along the lines of, "Boy, he sure seems like the next Denzel Washington?" without knocking on wood first? Because that monkey's paw has started to curl something fierce and left us with the latest batch of franchise IP news -- one that'll excite the more innocent among us while leaving the rest slightly jaded and cynical. What a time to be alive, folks.
So, remember when the Hughes brothers teamed up with "Rogue One" writer Gary Whitta on a 2010 apocalyptic movie by the name of "The Book of Eli" and we all agreed that it was a pretty solid piece of original genre work with something meaningful on its mind? That might feel like more and more of a foreign concept these days, especially compared to the current state of original sci-fi.

Spoilers for Justified: City Primeval. Timothy Olyphant returned as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens for a new Justified series based on Elmore Leonard’s crime novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. While the story of Justified: City Primeval was largely self-contained, it did leave a pretty big door open for a possible season 2 featuring the return of a fan-favourite character.
In the closing moments of the Justified: City Primeval finale, we catch up with none other than Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), who is able to escape from prison after faking an illness and seducing a guard. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Justified: City Primeval showrunners Michael Dinner and Dave Andron were asked if this meant that a second season was in the works.
“Everybody would like to, but it’s up to the network,” Dinner said. “Because it’s not about City Primeval, we would only want to...

Sean Penn, whose Volodymyr Zelenskyy documentary “Superpower” recently launched on Paramount+, will be on the iconic stage of Cannes’s Grand Auditorium later this month — but it won’t be for a movie.
The Oscar winner is set to attend Mipcom, the international TV conference, alongside Matthew Fox (“Lost”) and Kick Gurry (“Edge of Tomorrow”) to discuss their wartime satire series “C*A*U*G*H*T” as part of a Media Mastermind Keynote on Oct. 18. Penn, who stars and serves as executive producer on the show, will participate in a panel discussion with Fox and Curry. The session will see them discuss ways in which the series explores themes of identity, fame and social media absurdities.
Landing a Hollywood star like Penn is a massive coup for Mipcom, which has sought to raise its profile within a competitive landscape for industry events.

There’s a lot to watch on Prime Video in October and, as you may have guessed, there’s spooky stuff galore in amongst Prime’s usual rotation of extensive library content.
In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.
Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.

Local news is still an incredibly important facet of TV for many viewers. A recent survey found 45% of cable users said live news or sports programming was the top reason they still preferred using that method to watch TV, and if streaming ever wants to fully replace cable, it will need to offer a robust lineup of live news.
That’s why the latest announcement from CBS and the free local news streaming platform Local Now is so important. On Wednesday, the two sides revealed a new agreement that will send 14 locally-themed CBS News stations to the service for free. Along with these news channels, Local Now is getting CBS Sports’ free soccer channel Golazo Network, a channel dedicated to the syndicated newsmagazine “Inside Edition,” and the lifestyle network Dabl.

Susan Sarandon, playing the U.S. Secretary of State Alaska Adams, gets the better of Bryan Brown, as the Australian prime minister, in a fast-paced verbal duel that represents the first footage from the Sean Penn-produced satirical comedy series “C*A*U*G*H*T.”
An elite team of Aussie soldiers is sent to an island nation to retrieve a secret file that has gone astray. Mistaken for Americans, they are captured by freedom fighters and produce a hostage video that goes viral. When the soldiers achieve celebrity status on social media, they realize that being caught might just be the best thing that could’ve happened to them.
“C*A*U*G*H*T” explores themes of identity, fame, and the absurdity of the viral age. “Why can’t we comedically deconstruct the intellectual ideas that humanity is facing right now?” says Kick Gurry who directs, produces and stars in the six-part series.

Fans of the FX series Justified were fortunate enough to get six prodigious seasons of one of the best neo-Westerns ever put on television from 2010-2015. The show’s critical success was in no small part due to the stellar supporting cast throughout its run. Fans not only gravitated towards Timothy Olyphant’s Kentucky-fried charm as the no-nonsense Raylan Givens, but found a connection with the men and women Raylan worked with, the women he loved, and the larger-than-life outlaws he came across.
It will surprise many to hear that Justified: City Primeval barely even mentions Kentucky, or the characters that were a part of Raylan’s life for those six years. Kentucky is far behind Raylan, and that includes his long term fraternal-nemesis, Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) who isn’t a part of this limited series. Ed Sheeran surprised his concert audience with an appearance by Eminem on Saturday, July 15. The singer and rapper performed two songs together: “Lose Yourself” and “Stan.”
Ed Sheeran told his audience he was going to perform a cover of an Eminem song
Sheeran posted a video to his Instagram account of the moment he surprised his audience with Eminem. In a break between songs, he tells his fans that he’s going to perform an Eminem cover next. The last few years have been good ones for African American horror, with a number of new talents making a big impression. Alongside the mainstream successes of Jordan Peele have been independent works like Bad Hair, Antebellum and Death Ranch, all speaking to previously neglected audiences. Still, there’s a long way to go to achieve a proportionate presence in genre cinema, so it’s good to see a contribution from Chris Chalk, whose talent as an actor made him a standout in the likes of Gotham, Detroit and Godzilla Vs. Kong. Unfortunately, whilst his direction is effective and the acting is good all round, the script falls short of the mark.
Chalk plays Chance, whom we see in the opening scene exchanging wedding vows with Grace (Kd Chalk). A year later, they’re preparing to move to another state where Grace has got a job. She’s written a successful.

Old friends Natasha Lyonne and Melanie Lynskey have lots to reminisce about, having first forged a bond during the filming of the 1999 Kiss-inspired movie “Detroit Rock City.” But their most memorable on-screen pairing was in another movie that premiered that year — director Jamie Babbit’s queer cult classic “But I’m a Cheerleader.”
A quarter century into their friendship, Lynskey and Lyonne appreciate that both of their careers are peaking now that they’re in their 40s. On Showtime’s “Yellowjackets,” Lynskey plays Shauna, a reckless New Jersey housewife traumatized by her experiences in the wilderness as a teenager. In the Peacock howdunit “Poker Face,” Lyonne portrays human lie-detector Charlie Cale, who solves crimes as she traverses the country while on the run.

The quartet of shorts holds up a distorted mirror to human sexuality as Jarmusch and Logan’s eerie music envelops the Freudian dreamscape — and while you might be tempted to drop a tab of acid or mushroom cap or two for the viewing, Jarmusch says that’s not necessary,...
