I'm kind of disappointed in all the bad reviews. I don't think a lot of the people watching are even giving this show a chance. Hearing the people who were involved with this show talk about it - its obvious they took special pains to make it authentic. I think they're trying to show both sides of the coin, their family life and the life they lead on the battle field. I think it has enough testosterone to keep men watching it and enough attention to the trials of family life that women will watch. I'm enjoying the crisis of conscience they show in the characters. The show brings light to the fact that no decision these men make is ever easy in the heat of the moment, nothing is ever black or just white.

I plan to keep watching it and believe it can only get better with each episode. Give it a chance!

I really liked the show season 1 with Walton Goggins. After that it has gone downhill fast. The show does still make me think, but the show needs more insight into seal training and brotherhood. The teenage girl stuff seems a bit hollywood (especially the girl who is being recruited).

I'm getting tired of the new trend where season 1 of a show will feature a prominent actor, and then they try to have a bunch of unknowns carry the show.

This went from a 7 for the first season to a 6 for the second season. It went from a good solid entertaining show about the Navy Seals, to trying to be another Homeland. It's not Homeland. Not even close. I wish they just stuck to being what they were good at in the first season.
  • So I have a family member who is a retired SEAL officer. And the only insight I get from him is this. Real SEALS do not talk about or brag about their accomplishments. And they are real people with real life issues. What they do for a living can magnify these real life issues. Six does a great job of capturing what they do on and off the field of engagement.

I suggest you watch the entire season before you decide what you think of this show. It builds and the payoff is worth it. I was frankly shocked by the graphic nature - not of the battle scenes which ought to be graphic, but the raw language, emotion, sexual scenes, etc. Perhaps my shock was that this was the History Channel, but I think it is not gratuitous in this instance. It is appropriate, given who these characters are - highly trained tactical warriors. It's what they do and therefore, it identifies them because you can't be one than the other, no matter how hard you try to assimilate into our cushy society.

I reserved my review until I saw the last episode of Season 1 (which was nothing short of tremendous). The body of work so far is top notch. The characters are totally believable to me and the directing, cinematography and story line are excellent. If you like Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, and the rest of that genre, you will not be disappointed.
  • ...not in the life of a commando nor in the universe of TV-shows. To keep it short: Well made, good actors. In regards to the story: We will see. I have only seen the pilot so far and I think it's too soon to make a final verdict.

But I would like to address some of the reviews on this show:

    • Sex: I only remember one brief sex scene. And there wasn't even much skin involved. Guys: this is a show about humans and humans have sex - you are the product of such an event neither you like it or not. But hey, I'm from Europe and I will burn in hell for my liberal views anyway... :)

    • Scalping: Do some research. There ARE allegations in this direction. Are they true? I don't know. But obviously it's not totally invented by the writers of the show. I neither apologies their possible doings nor do I condemn them as a whole. However: Is it true, it is distasteful even if the enemy uses similar tactics in psychological warfare. Killing them should be enough and do the trick.

The only criticism I have is that the guys are shown as very impulsive and sometimes with low self control. I would assume that that's not very realistic. But what do I know...

Hollywood manages to make perhaps the greatest special forces team look like a bunch of loose cannon F-ups. The show has quality actors and there are good stories to tell, but this program seems to digress into the personal problems...making each character a drunk, a absent father behind on support, a violent control freak, etc, etc, etc....you fill in the blank. Not a normal balanced person among the characters.

This is far from reality. Seals are a little crazy, but they are the some of the most personally disciplined people on the planet earth.

This show needs new writers or it will be canceled quickly. Can we focus a little more on their loyalty and commitment to each other. The danger they face, the difficult training and the bad guys they fight?
  • With the heavy hype surrounding this new mini-series, I was very excited with what this production could be. Especially with how well History had been handling it's recent history based shows. Unfortunately, this show was nothing but smoke and mirrors. While the action sequences in the show are a bit more impressive than the average gun fights you see on TV, the rest of the show suffers severely.

The writing is atrocious and the actors, some of which have very good credentials, seem as if they don't believe in their own lines. Combined with a rushed background story for everyone that fails to offer enough exposition, the show was a mess from start to finish.

The primary antagonist's motivation is one of the most cliché to be found and the rest of the characters that make up the team are also each their own cookie cutter stereotype. The only thing that led me to finish the show was the desire to see if it got better, but the ending just left me a sour taste in my mouth.

In the end, I will watch episode two and see how it goes, but as of right now this is a show that I cannot recommend to most people.

Six is at once an action-packed drama and a fresh look at many realities of war, even those which some viewers may not want to see or actually believe take place. But perhaps even better, the show does an earnest and honest job at demonstrating the human side of the modern warfighter, and the double lives they live. From Vikings to Six, History is telling some great stories via the medium of great drama. With Six they made a solid decision in their choice of writers and producers with proved talent who are veterans in the military genre, as well as actual war veterans, lending credibility to the scripts and production. And the show hit the jackpot with the leads they cast in actors who are able to convincingly play the roles of the nations most elite, in all their grime and glory.
  • SIX is a two season military drama, which was cancelled at the end of the 2nd season. Unfortunate because the last episode of S2 ends as a cliff hanger. This is a shame as the plot regained some momentum, after stumbling as a result of the death of a key character in SS1. SIX is closer to the series "Strike Back" minus the soft porn, instead focusing on the operatives balancing missions, team member dynamics and personal relationships with significant others. A solid military drama focused on Seal Team SIX.

Films and TV shows about Navy Seals or other special forces personnel is the current rage. Some have not done so well (e.g., "Shooter") but this series really delivers. They manage to move seamlessly between the personal lives and the military assignments, and this type of insight has rarely been seen before, although the last year of the "The Unit" did deal with some of these issues.

I also enjoy the interactions between the men, and how what they experience at home and in the field comes back to alter their interactions.

The acting here is excellent and it often looks more like a docudrama rather than a TV show. The principal team members (Barry Sloane, Alex Caulder, Ricky Ortiz) are two dimensional people and the conflicts within and between are portrayed very well. It's good to see that these characters have their own identities.

I'm a big fan of Walton Goggins, having appreciated him in "The Shield" and later enjoyed his robust performance in "Justified". He doesn't disappoint and delivers a nuanced piece of work - probably his best and he gets better as the series progresses.

I especially appreciate that at the end of each episode there are highlights from actual combat veterans.

I'm not a former Seal so I can't begin to say whether or not this is true to life. I can say that it is entertaining.
  • Good story, nice action, annoying wives. I like the idea a lot that the series tries to portray military and family struggles. But god, did i mention the wives are annoying af ? Season 1 was alright. Seems like the second one is a bit more lackluster.
  • I'm loving this series! Walt rocks it as always as the tortured man. He's a man with a dark past and I want to know what has caused him so much pain. As an arm brat I totally understand the home life and the fear what my Dad was going through. The action is spot on and the family dynamics both at home and in the team or great. One of the biggest complaints I've heard is about the violence but I feel it's nothing we haven't already seen. I'm more taken by the husband and wife relationships and how the navigate those waters. That's the gold I think. It's Zero Dark Thirty with family. I just wish everyone wasn't so good looking. My new favorite show for the season.
  • I am a bit confused, isn't Seal Team Six supposed to be the best of all the Seals put into one? If this is so then why does it go back to them training and going into action and "popping there cherry", meaning they got there first kill?. If you were in Team Six you should of had way more missions and kills before even getting chosen. Episode 3 just ended as a joke. A trained Seal Team 6 with an AK 47 and hand gun didn't try and shoot 8 men in a truck approaching him, instead he runs away like a coward and then gives up without a fight......weak weak weak!!!!!!!!! I hope that it picks up a bit, but i can almost see the story already that the Muslim will appear just before the rescue mission and take Rip off to the Middle East where the chase will continue and continue as all series want to have a Season 2 and Season 3......
  • I know a few former special forces operators and they are all serious, disciplined men in civilian life. We're talking attorneys, accountants, trainers, professionals, family men. I cannot imagine any one of them acting the undisciplined, prisoner killing, infighting a-holes this team are portrayed as. No one in command would select this lot for anything more significant and politically sensitive than cleaning latrines.

There is one character to hate, yet none to like. The men are jerks, the spouses are jerks, and not surprisingly the kids are jerks. With one exception you don't wish any of them ill, but you aren't rooting very hard for any of them either.

Five stars for the action scenes. No stars for the lack of realism and Hollywood everyone-is-flawed-trash-like-us portrayal of soldiers doing a difficult job. Five stars.
  • This is by no means a full review, but the first episode shows that the crew put in a lot of effort and time into getting the tactics, equipment and firefights down. The script is lacking a bit, but if you were expecting the next Breaking Bad or The Wire, I don't think this is the show for you. This show is a breath of fresh air amongst all the cop shows, political dramas, fantasy, and crime shows. A good military show that keeps it real and portrays the SEALs in a human light rather than a larger than life and infallible superheroes. If you've spent your time around vets like the SEALs or other SOF members or are one yourself, I think you'll find the show suitable as a good drama to check out. Also, if you've read the article "The Crimes of SEAL Team 6", you'll know some of controversial things done on the show are true to real life.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I liked the show a lot. It's a pilot. They are laying the ground work with the pilot. people seem quick to write this off and with these type of programs one needs to give an episode or 2. They are brothers who are battling demons we hadn't seen, they are imperfect people trying to find their way when the real story comes out. The pilot was good, it is showing where these people came from, loves they left behind and how they fit in war and not,Give it a chance, the main thing here is brotherhood. I think people should sit tight and watch it play out. A lot of these type of shows kick in around episode 3. If your looking for instant gratification then this isn't for you.

Well, I tried to watch this series again tonight, but once these morons tried to invade the village (?), like last time, I just couldn't go on. Who's the director of this series? Why there's no actor who played one of the roles didn't point out that wearing night vision goggles, it should be under pitch black condition. But what we saw when they sneaked into the village, there were so many street lights along the streets. When they bombed the door and rush into the house, every room was so bright, yet these bunch of morons still wore night vision goggles. All of them should have cried out painfully by the brightness and lost their visions, yet these morons still wore the goggles. Jesus, when I watched to this point, just like last time, I quit.

this is a terrible TV series, i just can't believe history channel which produced one of the best drama series, "vikings", could become such a poor producer of this garbage. the screenplay of every episode was poorly crafted, then further ruined by stupid directing, so careless that almost made me crazy. we saw a bunch of the special force guys operated at night, all wearing night vision goggles, but the streets all around them were so brightly with electric lights, street lights, house lights....yet these morons still wearing night vision goggles. with such brightness all over the places, they should be immediately blinded and screamed with painful groans, yet these morons still wore those goggles like they were in pitch black streets. by only judging with such laughable careless setting, you could already confirm this is a very bad series. what a joke!

Everytime I see a militaty action series, I kind expect to see exactly what we have here.. the guys are badass but when they get home, the wives nag, don't respect them and the guys just take it.. damn, is it difficult to every once in a while, either make the guys single or maybe with a loving family who cherishes the guy?

Now as regarding to the other plots.. don't see much difference from Seal Team.. there's the "bad guy of the season" storyline,, but the washed up ex seal.. oh come on, man.. same old mangina story.. the guy lives for his wife and seems not to notice everything is falling apart and when the breakup happens, the guy flips and starts killing unarmed muslims... oh boy. This plot is ridiculous not to mention the second guessing thing during and after the missions.. there's no unity and respect to the chain of command whatsoever.

Seal Team owns Six in this aspect.. more action and way less drama and nagging wives.. Six spends a bit more time trying to develop the characters tho.. well, only 4 characters and not the whole team (the latino, the leader, the blond dude and the former seal) while Seal Team is pretty much focused on Clay and David Boreanaz's character.

I am for warning you that there is some spoilers in this review. I love the scene where Caulder (Kyle Schmid) gets shoved up against the cage by a teem mate. I also love the line from Caulder "if you ever do that again make sure you finish the job". My opinion is that I think Caulder did the right thing by calling Rip out. Rip was at the end but didn't want to admit it. When Rip shot point blank the guys who was trying to give himself up while saying he was an American was wrong and the teem guy new it but only Caulder did something about it because it was completely wrong of Rip.

You can tell Rip would rather be back as a Seal then a security detail person for the rich. You see all the skills and training are running through Rip at the girls school. I love the comradety between the guys. Six is non-stop action from the beginning and I love that. I can not wait for the next episode to air on Wednesday. You can not find a better show.

I've only seen the first three episodes. In my humble opinion this show has the potential to run at least two seasons. Maybe even longer if The Weinstein Company kicks Harvey to the curb HARD and changes its name.
  • A military show with depth, inspired by real-life stories. The fact that this show was created by a father and son that have both served I think gives it authenticity. They have a great cast, brotherly love, guys serving our country as only very few people do AND you get to see how their service affects their family. The cast is thoroughly engaged with their audience via social media, which I find refreshing. They care about their characters, each other, and their fans. They have a lot left to offer and I truly hope the show is picked up by another network.
  • They should not have cast Walter Goggins. Hey is a good actor but I see him in to much other series. When watching Six an I see him I only think of all the other series I see him in and Six becomes unbelievable for me. To bad. Good serie except for Walter Goggins.
  • So annoyed this got cancelled, so much more room to grow into a 3rd season

    I'm no fan of pro-go-U. S. A anything.

However, I am a fan of military action/drama and this series was above average.

My only critique is the casting often seems heavily tokenistic, with a perfect ratio of every race and gender except for a blind cross dressing amputee. ( I'm someone who believes drama ought to reflect reality, not pander to PC).

Frustratingly, more often than not, high quality drama doesn't produce high ratings and they get cancelled-while average similar type series Seal Team keep on going.

A third season would have been enough - but no joy.
  • I had to delete this from my DVR schedule, it is that bad. The first season was watchable and I would give it a 6 or 7 rating, but who is the genius that changed the direction of the show and brought in Olivia Munn? Her character adds nothing unlike her counterpart on Seal Team Six who is actually a part of the team.

This show is nothing more than a cheap soap opera this season.
