There is something very nostalgic about looking back at the shows we grew up with, but the people we looked up to have changed. Some have continued to build their careers and now hold various awards, and others couldn't handle the stress of the industry and have retired.

Emma Stone is an iconic actress who has starred in some iconic filmography over the years in Hollywood. From Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise to Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, Stone has found quite a status for herself.
However, the case wasn’t true in 2010 when she starred in a film titled Easy A. Being a story about a girl lying about losing her virginity to a college guy, the film narrates how easy it is for lies to spread and create something entirely different. Before she starred in that role, however, Emma Stone had her doubts about the film.

If you had to pick the leading actress of the last decade, many would probably name Emma Stone. Playing a variety of characters – from Spider-Man's girlfriend to a girl who dreams of Hollywood – the actress has become a symbol of her time. Emma makes each movie more charming than it could be without her.
Perhaps the first movie that showed viewers the range of the actress' talent was Easy A. Comedies aren't usually used as a showcase of their skills for actors, but Easy A is a very different case.
“It's an absolute show stopping performance from Emma Stone in her first leading role. […] No one who saw that film back in 2010 would have been surprised that she got a Best Actress Oscar before she was 30 and another one before she was 35,” Reddit user faithle55 wrote.
And it’s impossible to argue with that statement.

The 2023 rom-com Anyone But You made waves last year when the film cast two rising-star leads, Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, who then embarked on a steamy PR campaign. Upon its release, the film clawed its way up the box office, proving once and for all that hottie-filled rom-coms are alive and well.
In the film, from Easy A director Will Gluck, Bea (Sweeney) and Ben (Powell) first lay eyes on each other during a meet-cute at a busy Boston coffee shop, which leads to a great date, which leads to disaster. Months later, when the sworn enemies are invited to a destination wedding, they reluctantly agree to be pretend-together to make his ex jealous and her parents to stop trying to force her back together with hers. Now Bea and Ben are about to get uncomfortably close — whether they like it or not.

Before he became a professional actor, Dev Patel was a competitive martial artist. Really. The British-born son of Indian immigrants took up Taekwondo at the age of 10 in a neighborhood dojo where he’d go on to earn a black belt. Furthermore, only three years prior to his breakout on the TV series Skins, young Patel won a bronze medal at the Action International Martial Arts World Championships in Dublin. It was a defining moment in his youth. It was also something—he concedes on the other side of completing his first action film, the ferocious Monkey Man—which has always been in the back of his mind.
“I learned so much about how to channel my energy and how to find discipline, and it was amazing,” Patel tells us after the film’s rapturous world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. “So [I knew] if I ever had the opportunity to...

There comes a time in every heterosexual woman or queer man’s life where we have to wonder: What is it about men that is at once so despicable and so alluring?
There are statistically more male serial killers, more male sociopaths, and — let’s be real — more male assholes than there are female counterparts. That’s just scientific fact. Sure, you can click on the hyperlinks, but do you really need to read a Psychology Today post between looking at this review and scrolling through the dating apps?
But the foundation of heteronormative rom-coms goes as follows: Girl meets boy, girl falls for boy, girl changes herself slightly for boy, and boy proposes. The end, happily ever after, everyone is great and good. Yeah, if you’re currently dating (or have been on dates at all in the 21st century), you know that’s not how it works, especially when situationships,...

I'm about to propose a somewhat radical idea, but hear me out: What if enemies ... became lovers? Once upon a time, the studio system used to deliver multiple movies a year riffing on this classic rom-com premise, but recent decades have seen these exact sorts of vehicles for movie stars falling by the wayside more and more. After all, we just have to make room for more superhero movies like "Madame Web," don't we? But in a highly ironic twist, one disaster of a Sydney Sweeney-starring production has given way to another much more successful one -- and the same studio is responsible for both. Sensing a lesson here, folks? In short, long live rom-coms!
"Anyone But You" maybe didn't reinvent the wheel or anything, as laid out in Marshall Shaffer's review for /Film, but co-leads Sweeney and Glen Powell certainly managed to charm their ways into the hearts of audiences worldwide.

The first couple of weekends of 2024 have been relatively quiet so far as the box office is concerned. Blumhouse's horror flick "Night Swim" is the only major new release to contend with thus far and the haunted swimming pool flick had a somewhat muted debut. But something pretty amazing is quietly unfolding right now, and it all has to do with Sony's rom-com "Anyone But You." Released at the tail end of last year, the film has quietly become the mind-blowing box office story of the moment, raking as the first true surprise of the year. So, what's going on exactly? Let's break it down.
The R-rated comedy, which stars Glen Powell ("Top Gun: Maverick") and Sydney Sweeney ("Euphoria"), opened to just $6 million over the weekend of December 22 against a $25 million budget. Facing a wave of competition from the likes of "Wonka" and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," it...

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is one of four movies opening in theaters over the weekend. Which of the new releases will sink and which will swim at the box office?
Jason Momoa’s “Aquaman” sequel is expected to float to the top of charts in North America over fellow newcomers: Universal and Illumination’s animated “Migration,” Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s romantic comedy “Anyone but You” and A24’s sports drama “The Iron Claw.” But the Warner Bros. comic book installment faces choppy waters. It’s targeting a soft $35 million to $40 million in its four-day debut (including Monday’s Christmas Day), which could make it the latest catastrophe in a terrible year for superhero movies.

Actress Amanda Bynes is “taking a pause” on her podcast after just one episode because she can’t get the guests she wanted.
The 37-year-old actress recently launched her podcast but it won’t be returning to the airwaves until she can secure the big name guests she wanted to speak to for the series.
In an update video shared to her Instagram Story, Amanda said: “So even though the podcast is doing really well and the response has been great, I’m going to take a pause on it for now.
“We are not able to get the type of guests that I’d like on the show, like say Jack Harlow or Drake or Post Malone. So maybe one day, if we’re able to get those types of guests on the show, we will resume the podcast. But for now, I’m taking a pause on it.

Breakout Australia comedy Colin From Accounts is back in production.
An official green light of Season 2 of the hit Binge sitcom came in August, after writers and stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer chose to down their pens in solidarity with WGA strike in the U.S. over the summer.
Exec producer Alison Hurbert-Burns from Binge told Deadline in October production would begin in “coming months,” adding: “As an Australian program it was outside of the strike, but they just felt it was the right thing to do.”
Brammall and Dyer finished the scripts once a deal was struck at the end of September. Production is now back underway across Sydney, with Easy Tiger Productions and CBS Studios returning the produce.

Hopefully, you’ve already read this week’s weekend movie preview, so you know that “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” “Godzilla Minus One,” the revenge thriller “Silent Night” and more will be opening on this slow weekend coming up, so we can focus on the rest of the month, including the lucrative weeks around Christmas Day.
Oddly, the top three movies for the rest of the month might all be from the same studio, which is something fairly unheard of, even and especially during the holidays. Read on for Gold Derby’s December 2023 box office preview.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” (Warner Bros. – Dec. 22)
Jason Momoa returns with this “Justice League” superhero in the sequel to the DC movie that opened with $67.8 million almost exactly five years ago and ended up making $1.1 billion globally, not bad for a superhero that’s often been treated as a joke on “Saturday Night Live” to “Entourage.

Powell has been surging since he featured in last year’s Top Gun: Maverick, most recently earning lots of plaudits for Richard Linklater’s Hit Man, which will stream on Netflix at some point in the future.
Sweeney meanwhile, has also been making waves in the same time period, featuring in the hit TV show Euphoria as well as being named as the title role in Edgar Wright’s proposed Barbarella remake, not to mention featuring in a what could be a very expansive role in the upcoming Sony Spider-Man spin-off,...

Harry Jowsey and Rylee Arnold have gotten close over the past few weeks as they compete on Dancing With the Stars!
However, after the two were seen holding hands at a concert last week, the 26-year-old reality star and the 18-year-old pro dancer were the subjects of dating rumors, with many fans actually shipping the two together.
While they have spoken out about said rumors, saying they’re enjoying hanging out and appreciative of the votes and support, they are adding more to what they think of the speculation of their personal relationship in a new interview.
Check out what they said inside…
“I think it’s unfair on Rylee to put, like, pressure on this when it’s her first season,” Harry told Page Six. “And, you know, whatever’s going on behind the scenes is gonna go on behind the scenes.”

Before we knew Justin Vernon as the force behind Bon Iver, he fronted DeYarmond Edison, a band formed along with his childhood friends Joe Westerlund, Brad Cook, and Phil Cook. Those early recordings by the future indie rock heroes are now getting a proper release with Epoch, a comprehensive box set out August 18th on Jagjaguwar. You can hear a preview now with the single “As Long As I Can Go” b/w “Feel the Light,” along with a remastered version of their 2005 track “Bones.”
Epoch comprises 83 recordings — many of which are being heard outside the band for the very first time — across five LPs and four CDs, dating all the way back to 1998. Along with the music comes a 60,000-word biography from journalist/executive producer/self-described biggest fan Grayson Haver Currin, the collection captures DeYarmond Edison’s evolution from high school rockers who performed as Mount Vernon to their...

Model/actress Emily Ratajkowski ("Gone Girl"), whose published 'essay collection' "My Body", includes a "...self-aware study of the exploitation of women's bodies" poses for the May 2023 issue of "HommeGirls" magazine:
Ratajkowski's exposure to the female figure in photography, including works by Helmut Newton and Herb Ritts, influenced her to appear in "The "Blurred Lines" music video with Robin Thicke.
This attracted the attention of actor Ben Affleck, who cast her to play his mistress in director David Fincher's 2014 adaptation of the novel "Gone Girl".
This was followed by an appearance with Taylor Kitsch in the "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" live-action trailer, a co-starring role in the 2015 feature "Entourage"...
...a role in the 2015 miniseries "The Spoils Before Dying", a leading role in the feature "We Are Your Friends" (2015) and a Buick 'Super Bowl' TV spot (2016).

Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Take That, and Nicole Scherzinger were among the artists to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III at a star-studded concert Sunday at Windsor Castle.
Perry — performing on arguably her biggest stage since the Super Bowl Xlix halftime show — delivered a rendition of “Roar” while drones formed the shape of a lion, denoting the newly crowned king’s coat of arms.
Perry then segued into “Firework,” which served as the evening’s final song, dedicating the song to the king. “Thank you for bringing out the...

Lionel Richie had the crowd singing “All Night Long” during King Charles III’s coronation concert!
On Sunday, the “American Idol” judge took the stage for a performance in honor of the new king at Windsor Castle. For his set, Richie kicked things off with “Easy (Like Sunday Morning).”
Sitting at the piano, Richie got the audience singing along as they waved their hands and lit up phones from side to side.
He then got them on their feet with his upbeat hit, “All Night Long.” It was obvious that the royal family was happy to have the “Hello” singer there as they sang along to his songs, with Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s children, George and Charlotte, waving little union jack flags in excitement and Charles himself showing off some of his dance moves.

Best Coast are going on an indefinite hiatus, and principal songwriter Bethany Cosentino is going solo. Today, Cosentino has announced that she’ll be releasing her debut album, Natural Disaster, on July 28th via Concord Records, and has also unveiled the album’s first single, “It’s Fine.”
Since hitting the scene 13 years ago with their seminal debut, Crazy for You, Best Coast have been a mainstay of the reverb-washed, lo-fi-inspired, indie generation. In a statement, Cosentino explained that the time had come for the duo — her and Bobb Bruno — to move onto the next stage of their artistic lives.
“My identity as a human being, and as an artist, has been so wrapped up in Best Coast for over a decade,” she wrote. “The decision to pause the project indefinitely, and explore a new side of myself, was a very difficult one to make — but it felt necessary for me.
