Return To The Genre - An Interview With Director William Friedkin (2011)
*** (out of 4)
Director William Friedkin sits down to discuss his 1990 horror film THE GUARDIAN, which at the time was a big event since the director was returning to the genre. He starts off talking about why he agreed to direct the movie and then gets into details about the actual production. This includes talking about casting the film as well as discussing the various issues they had during the production. This includes what it was like having to work with babies as well as issues with the special effects. Friedkin also discusses why he still thinks THE EXORCIST isn't a horror movie. While there's certainly nothing ground-breaking here this is still a fun interview to watch as Friedkin shares some nice stories and it's also fascinating hearing him talk about THE EXORCIST and how he doesn't consider it a horror movie (I agree with him). The director also shares his opinions on current horror films and the ones that he likes.
