Great episode in terms of storyline progression, on multiple fronts. Bernthal and Barnes' acting was on point.

The best part of the whole season, be sure to see it, great, I do not want to spoil, so I will not explain further, but be sure to watch, it will surprise you, I say again the best part of the whole season.

Gunner

This episode had the kind of action in the forest that you expect given the background of Frank and these people, but it was still not really that memorable. We kind of knew Gunner would get gunned down and we kind of know that this is just a tease for a later battle. While the episode was solid, the show still has not had that big moment yet.

The woods is where it's at

A somewhat laboured episode for the most part, and once again some gratuitous sex for American viewers. The good news is that it picks up in the second half for an extended woodland set-piece that I liked quite a bit.

Almost Good

Like the previous episode, Gunner had good pacing. For the first 4/5ths of this episode, the plot progressed the way you would expect a series called "The Punisher" to go.

There were two things "wrong" with this story. The first was the OVERUSED trope of the male who makes plans with his family (or pseudo-family in this case) and then fails to appear.

The second was the script discontinuity. While Frank is out in the woods with Gunner, David is flying a drone and keeping tabs on them. The next thing we know, Gunner and Frank are both shot and David is nowhere to be found. That's just wrong and makes no logical sense except from a writer's point of view.

If David saw they were both shot (which is what would have happened in the real world) then he would have given aid much sooner and Gunner would have lived. So in yet another episode the writers manipulated reality. David doesn't arrive until after dark and Gunner is dead.

Which is a shame because the majority of this story was sensational. Makes you wonder, are the writers intentionally trying to ruin the viewer's suspension of disbelief?
