A ghost haunts a family line of shirtless men in Mandeville, Louisiana researched and narrated by a man whose second language is English.

The shirtless men who shower is perhaps a spoof of those films with women who shower, but overall the production failed to carry through any such satire. The one man was a fake painter. You don't paint the the wall after the trim is finished, it goes the other way around and there was clearly no paint going on the wall from his roller, a poorly staged scene. Armand Petri is an egotist who insists on starring in his own films when he should remain behind the camera and attempt to get at least one scene framed correctly. This is at least the second film where Armand has mentioned the fictional Lovecraft "Miskatonic University" like an infant when they first discover their toes. This is common in films, I prefer the covert diploma on the wall scene, if it must be used. What a real multiple script writer should do is to establish his own fictional university and develop it throughout the multiple films and maybe afterwards make a film involving said fictional university tying in all the films. That would demonstrate some clever writing with a lot of forethought. Aping what others do does not. Acting wasn't that great. I did like the tree and old cemetery.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity
  • An independent film doesn't have to have the flash or all-star case of a big studio film. But it does have to be incredibly smart with a strong story to tell.

This film wastes the automatic production value of Louisiana. You just shoot and it looks awesome.

    1. As the film opens, the film format looks cheap and at a narrow angle. OK, could still be smart and good.

    2. The guy gets out of the car and goes to the trunk - this should be interesting. He gets a tiny box of cookies!? Who puts a single dozen cookies in the trunk? You'd put it in the seat next to you or behind you - not in an empty trunk to get thrown around. Now I know I'm in for a thoughtless overreaching film.

    3. The opening actor is so bad with 5th grade facial expressions. when he takes off his shirt to wash away 3 drops of coffee. I was done.

Actually, I was done when he sees the "ghost" standing there - the actor barely able to contain his laugh.

Not worth the time. Waste of film. To the filmmakers: make a smarter movie where the details make sense. Ask: "Would the average person do this?"

BAYOU GHOST STORY is a very indifferent way to make a horror film, and it's shame it's so poor as the Louisiana setting is always an interesting one. What we get here is a predictable ghost story told via endless face-to-face camera interviews with a number of local interviewees. It's shot in high definition and features some semi-decent performances, but the result is very boring with the talky technique a real barrier against viewer involvement.
  • This is the type of pensive film where you need to pay attention and absorb all details on the screen. The cinematography does Louisiana justice, with the unmistakable nature sounds and the evocative imagery of the swamps and cemeteries taking the viewer to a whole new realm full of mystery and enchantment. This well-written independent film uncovers more and more clues as it advances, and it might require a second viewing to reveal all of its secrets. Despite its low budget, this small film benefits from the lush beauty and esoteric energy of Louisiana, and a good mystery plot.
