The 10 Best Celebrity Cameos from Abbott Elementary - Main Image
Abbott Elementary has a pretty strong central cast, but the show has managed to wow audiences with some very classic celebrity cameos. While some may only appear for a short scene, there are also others that manage to hang around the school for an entire episode.
In this list, we take a look at some of the best guest appearances that Abbott has ever had and wonder if the show will manage to top itself in future episodes of the currently ongoing fourth season.

Ayo Edebiri may be best known for getting screamed at by Jeremy Allen White in The Bear, but before that show took off, Edebiri had a small, but significant role in Abbott Elementary as Janine’s sister Ayesha.

Fantastic Fest 2024 kicked off in Austin last night, which also means, more or less, that horror movie season has officially started. So what indie and foreign horror flicks will grab the festival audience’s attention this year? One frontrunner there is “Daddy’s Head,” the sophomore feature from English director Benjamin Barfoot.

“Daddy’s Home” is a departure in genre for the self-taught Barfoot, his first horror film after splashing onto the British indie cinema scene with his 2017 directorial debut “Double Date.” But the set-up for the film sounds like one honed by a horror regular: a young boy grieving for his recently deceased father discovers his house is haunted …by a creature with eerie similarities to his Dad.

Defying the odds at Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys, Michaela Coel (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) ended up winning the Best Drama Guest Actress race for the Prime Video spy thriller. Many awards pundits thought that Claire Foy (“The Crown”) might prevail, especially considering she had already won this same guest actress category in 2021 as well as the lead actress race in 2018. For this 2024 contest, the two nominees faced off against Marcia Gay Harden (“The Morning Show”), Sarah Paulson (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) and Parker Posey (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”).
Coel submitted the episode “Infidelity” in which she plays Bev, a secret spy who tries to infiltrate the marriage between John (Donald Glover) and Jane (Maya Erskine). This marks Coel’s second career Emmy victory after previously prevailing for writing her HBO limited series “I May Destroy You” (2021).

In 2021, “The Crown” performer Claire Foy made Emmys history as the first winner of lead and guest acting trophies for a single role. With that monumental achievement on her resume, she naturally appears unstoppable as she seeks the 2024 Best Drama Guest Actress prize for her work on the farewell season of the same series.
Foy would follow Patricia Clarkson (“Six Feet Under”) and Margo Martindale (“The Americans”) as the third woman to win two guest Emmys for one drama program and would be the only two-time guest victor overall with a regular win for the same show. Those hoping to give her a run for her money are veteran contender Marcia Gay Harden (“The Morning Show”) and category newcomers Michaela Coel, Sarah Paulson, and Parker Posey, all three of whom represent “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

Out of the 16 Emmy nominations Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” earned for its first season, five were for high-profile guest stars Michaela Coel, Sarah Paulson, Parker Posey, Paul Dano and John Turturro.
The quintet, who make up half of this year’s drama guest acting nominees, were “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” co-creator and showrunner Francesca Sloane’s first choices for their respective characters.
“That’s why it’s unbelievable that all these people said ‘Yes,'” she said. “One of the things we were excited about doing was taking these [actors] who played roles in a way that you would expect them to and then turn it on its head a little bit or even just to the left versus to the right.”

When it was announced in early 2021 that “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” the 2005 blockbuster action romance with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie playing the titular spies, was being adapted into a television series for Prime Video, the response was mixed at best. Why would anyone attempt to resurrect a successful property partially fueled by salacious tabloid fodder surrounding Pitt and Jolie’s real-life affair — let alone try to re-create their chemistry onscreen and reimagine a new take?
The initial doubts over the TV version of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” even with co-creator, writer, director and star Donald Glover in the driver’s seat, fired up the creative team behind the scenes. It was time to prove everyone wrong. “Maybe this is the naughty kid in me, maybe this is the punk in me — it excited me because they had no idea what we were cooking,” co-creator and showrunner Francesca Sloane said.

Last year, the nominees for both Best Drama Guest Actor and Best Drama Guest Actress were drawn from just two shows: “The Last of Us” and “Succession.” The former reaped a lucky seven nominations while the latter nabbed five. We don’t think any show will manage to snag that many nominations across these two drama guest acting categories this year but we do think one show will land more bids than any other: Amazon Prime Video’s “Mr. And Mrs. Smith.”

The animated X-Men are about to make their return to TV in "X-Men '97." This Disney+ series is basically a thirty-year-late sixth season of 1992's "X-Men," the first cartoon about the Marvel Comics superhero team.
The "X-Men" comics kept chugging along through highs and lows while their animated counterparts were in limbo, though. At SXSW 2024, Marvel previewed the comics' future. A relaunch is coming to "X-Men" in Summer 2024 under the banner "From The Ashes," the follow-up to the ongoing "Fall of X." There'll be three primary series at first:
"X-Men" by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman. Cyclops and Magneto will lead a traditional X-Men superhero team based in Alaska.
"Uncanny X-Men" by Gail Simone and David Marquez. "Outlaw" lovebirds Gambit and Rogue head to New Orleans with Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee in tow.
"Extraordinary X-Men" by Eve Ewing and Carmen Carnero. Set in Chicago, Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost...

This article contains spoilers up to episode 4 of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."
The opening to director Doug Liman's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" set the tone for that movie, following a pair of super-spies for opposing agencies who, through sheer coincidence, happen to be a married couple living secret double lives. After the framing device places Brad Pitt's John Smith and Angelina Jolie's Jane Smith in couple's therapy, we flashback to the sultry circumstances of their original meet-cute and the whirlwind romance that ultimately resulted in a marriage that's now on autopilot. We quickly realize that they're both impossibly good-looking, extremely proficient at their jobs and basically never make a single mistake ... until their last assignment puts them on a collision course with one another, at least.
Now, it's Prime Video's turn to revitalize this concept through its own series, as spearheaded by Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane. In place of Pitt and Jolie,...

In his latest podcast/interview, host Stuart Wright talks with Double Date‘s screenwriter/leading man Danny Morgan about taking the kernel of an idea to the page and onto the screen.
Meet innocent Jim, terrified of girls and on a reluctant quest to prove his manhood the night before he turns 30. He and his cocky friend Alex think they’ve hit the jackpot when they meet the beautiful sisters Kitty and Lulu, who seem up for anything on a wild party-fuelled night. They also have an incredible car. But little do they know that the feisty femmes fatales have their own shocking agenda in mind and have every intention of making Jim lose much more than just his virginity… Getting laid has never been so bloody difficult.
Double Date is out now via Amazon Prime, DVD/Blu-ray (through Sparky Pictures), iTunes, Google Play, Danny’s house etc. You can read our review right here.

A British horror comedy penned by Danny Morgan, we take a look at Double Date...
British horror comedy is a broad church, and when it comes to the cinema, you could end up with anything from Shaun Of The Dead to Lesbian Vampire Killers. Happily, Double Date, a blokey thriller written by its star Danny Morgan (BBC Three's Ideal) is quite funny and has a certain amount of visual panache, so it lands comfortably in the better end of the spectrum.
Arriving in UK cinemas fresh off a crowd-pleasing premiere at FrightFest earlier this year, the film follows Jim (Morgan), a painfully shy young man who's on the verge of becoming a 30 year old virgin. His best mate Alex (Michael Socha) seems even more exasperated about this than he does. And so, neither of them can believe their luck when stunning sisters Kitty (Kelly Wenham) and Lulu (Georgia Groome...

Better Watch Out
Stars: Virginia Madsen, Patrick Warburton, Olivia DeJonge, Dacre Montgomery, Levi Miller, Ed Oxenbould, Aleks Mikic | Written by Zack Kahn, Chris Peckover | Directed by Chris Peckover
On a quiet suburban street tucked within a ‘safe neighbourhood’, Ashley has turned up to babysit 12-year-old Luke for the evening while his parents are out for a Christmas party night. Ashley is Luke’s favourite babysitter and he’s looking forward to spending time with her again. Suddenly a brick crashes through the window reading ‘U Leave, U Die’ and they hear someone sneaking around the house upstairs…
Where to begin with Better Watch Out? A film that starts as your typical, cliched seasonal slasher: two teens trapped in a house by a madman outside, who eventually breaks in to terrorise his victims. If the film had stuck with that story it would have been, judging by what we saw, an...

A big hit at Horror Channel FrightFest, we chat to Danny Morgan about the upcoming horror, Double Date...
London-born actor/writer Danny Morgan (Off The Hook, Ideal, On The Road) had a very good reason for turning to the horror genre when it came to writing his first screenplay. “I thought that was a genre I could do something in, because there are so many crap horror films. I thought ‘well, it’s not going to stand out horribly if it’s completely terrible’. So I went into it with a good frame of mind!”
It’s a characteristically self-deprecating remark from Morgan who, along with director Benjamin Barfoot, can rest assured that Double Date is one of the funniest and most entertaining British horror comedies of recent years. Following screenings at Karlovy Vary and Edinburgh, it brought the house down at this year’s London’s Horror Channel FrightFest,...

Horror Channel FrightFest takes place in London this weekend. Here's our pick of films to look out for...
Summer’s almost over and what better way to welcome in the spooky season than by hiding from the heat in a darkened room, with five days of wall-to-wall horror? Yep, it’s August Bank Holiday and that means the 18th annual London Horror Channel FrightFest is upon us. For some, this is a familiar pilgrimage. Veterans will be used to bloodshot eyes, numbness in the spine, a lack of nutrition and an acute anxiousness every time there’s a loud noise. For others, it may be their first visit and these are things to look forward to. Either way, FrightFest promises probably the biggest, purest, uncut dose of horror you can endure without going insane, complete with special guests, world premieres, live events and at least a couple of parties.

As they gear up for this year's lucky 13th edition, the Mayhem Film Festival in Nottingham, UK, have just announced the first three titles on their lineup. First there is a little home grown effort from Benjamin Barfoot called Double Date. This looks to be Barfoot's feature film debut. The festival has also added the mockumentary Top Knot Detective from Oz. And this is very cool. For their 13th edition the festival will have a retro screening of Friday the 13th Part 3: 3D on Friday the 13th! Surely the darkest of stars have aligned for the festival this year. Just going by these three titles alone it looks like they are going to have to call in extra sheriffs that weekend. Huh?...

A boorish but competently crafted debut feature from British director Benjamin Barfoot, Double Date is a horror comedy pitched at the kind of knowingly lowbrow fanboy crowd that helped give Sam Raimi, Peter Jackson and Edgar Wright their early career breaks. Technically polished, but let down by a patchy screenplay penned by its leading man Danny Morgan, Barfoot's date-from-hell bloodbath romp never quite shakes off its B-movie trappings despite a few thrillingly grisly detours into grindcore carnage.
After making its international bow at Karlovy Vary film festival earlier this month, Double Date is scheduled to screen at more genre-friendly festivals ahead...

It’s hard not to like and admire a low-budget British genre flick when it’s written by a young English actor and directed by his friend, even if the writer has given himself the lead role. In this instance, it’s a rather brave move, as screenwriter Danny Morgan, probably best known for regular appearances in the Johnny Vegas vehicle Ideal, has cast himself as Jim, a nerdy virgin about to hit 30. It’s a successful collaboration with Benjamin Barfoot too, a visually impressive director with a distinctive vision for the project at hand.
Online dating hasn’t helped Jim’s sexual cause, and his chat-up technique is non-existent, so his best mate Alex (Michael Socha) decides he’s to be responsible for getting Jim’s cherry well and truly popped before his birthday is up. Unfortunately for the pair of them, they’re about to...
