  • The second consecutive movie this year with Nayanthara in the lead. She's good in selection of movie. This one is no exception. This could have been even better to be called as a gripping thriller.

Acting: All the lead characters had acted well. But the acting of Anurag Kashyap is exceptional. Vijay Sethupathi's Cameo is short and sweet and he's good as always. Atharva acted better in this one.

    Positive points:

    1. As I mentioned earlier, acting part was completely good.

    2. This film is technically sound one.

    3. Anurag Kashyap completely ruled the film by his exceptional acting.

    4. Direction was good as it tried to make audience emotional.

    5. Though the movie has a running time of 2 hrs and 50 mins, we never feel bored except for love portions.

Negative points: 1. Songs are unnecessary at the moments, eventhough songs are good.

    2. Running time is 2 hrs and 50 mins. It could've been handled better by removing unnecessary scenes.

    3. Some scenes are easily predictable. It could've been handled in a better way.

    4. It lacks some logic. I don't want to put spoilers and spoil the experience of readers.

Considering all the negative points, this movie is surely a great treat for those who love thrillers.

My rating:6/10 and additional 1 for Anurag Kashyap. Hence 7/10
  • A nicely written cat & mouse game play. Fast & Engaging screenplay with unexpected twists & turns. Nice casting, although Nayanthara & Atharva tries to capture attention, Anurag Kashyap steals the show anyways. Vijay Sethupathi's short role had a significant impact like Madhavan in Rang De Basanti, with his climiax ending up like Ghajini, which could've been altered a bit. The kid scenes were simply enjoyable.
  • This movie was very good, even though we could identify who the antagonist is, they kept the thrill right through the movie. One of the negatives was, length of the movie was too long close to 3 hours, which could have been cut down. Acting of Anurag Kashyap was too good!
  • Let me make it simple for the readers

The overall theme of the movie was above average but the way it was presented on the screen was over dramatic. The Cast was good, but no one was too good in the movie due to lack of strength in the script and the dialogue it delivered. Nayantara's selection of movie was bold. Too much cliche in the movie which makes it too obvious. Songs were completely unnecessary. Overall you can just watch it one time and then forget about it.
  • The plot was well constructed and executed. The cast enassemble was near perfect. There were times when the story felt unnecessarily dragged. But overall, the movie will take you through an exciting journey.
  • Excellent Movie. Everybody in the movie acted very well.in the movie. Anurag Kashyap acting was main highlight in the movie. Songs and BGM in the movie was also very good. The movie was so interesting and thrilling. But at 1st half in the movie there was some unwanted scenes. In 2nd half the movie was excellent. The movie has many twists and turns. Vijay Sethupathi also acted very well in the movie. This movie is one of the best movie of 2018.
  • The film is about a thrilling subject.

A cop following a serial killer.

The story has loopholes and may not be really interesting at the end but it surely contains a major twist in the middle which is quite interesting.

Serial Killer does some superhuman activities effortlessly in the first half making the police look like kids. But the writer went too far and the end product in the first half looks a bit childish. Yeah, it has the essence of what south Indian fans would prefer but will fail miserably to capture a global audience.

A love story is inserted into the main story which really deviates the original film genre from crime, thriller to more of a mixed one. It seems the serial killer is the main story but the director might have feared it will not be commercially successful without a love story.

It does not go shoulder to shoulder with films like Ratsasan where main focus is the actions happening around the serial killer. And obviously, Ratsasan has a great plot line as well.

Nayanthara acts out the main character and she does a pretty well job acting out her two sides of life. Anurag Kashyap is not good in the movie but can be better. There is good room for improvement for him in areas such as acting out the feel of dialogues etc.
  • Warning: Spoilers
First kudos goes to none other than Anuragh Kashyap. Such a brilliant actor. We all knew his brilliance in direction, however he sure has excelled as an actor inn the movie. Nayanthara looks bold and beautiful. Other characters have done a great job as well. Worth watching
  • Overall its a one time watch. The extra star is for Vijay Sethupathi and the Neeyum Naanum Anbe song from Hiphop Tamizha and its picturization is amazing. With better editing the film could have maintained better tempo as a thriller. Good performances by Nayathara, Atharva Murali and supporting cast. Anurag Kashyap has tried but the language barrier is visible. Although Vijay Sethupathi doesn't have lot of screen time, he steals the show with his presence and natural acting.

Worth to Watch. Beautiful love and action thriller movie about the psycho series killer.
  • The movie doesn't waste time in idle scenes but sets up the premise right from the first sequence.

It immediately starts building the antagonist (villain) of the movie and his character is handled well throughout the movie

The screenplay is divided between two different characters; one for the thriller and other for romance. Both of them join together in the middle. because of this the movie seems different when it jumps to the romantic narration.

The premise is set out to be a cat and mouse game between the villain and Hero but it wasn't the case as there was no equal brilliance between them. It rather showed a secondary character as smarter than the primary one.

There was not enough hints to the climax and the twists so when they revealed, it doesn't have the desired impact on the viewers.

A movie which was wholly saved by the antics of the villain and his characterization.
  • Screenplay, Acting and BGM were in top Notch.

It is really worth watching the movie
  • Warning: Spoilers
Imagine having such a great potential for making a perfect mystery thriller but instead making a cliche revenge drama. Unnecessary side story, not taking enough risks . . (spoiler alert) not having the guts to make the protagonist an evil has stopped the movie from being a great thriller. Anurag Kashyap's villain is the only thing that made me watch the movie till end
  • I have an expectation about this movie while i am reading a review about this movie. Unfortunately its end with below my expectation. A good theme how they ruined with over dramatic over built up. Still they didn't learn how to make Mystery / thriller / Drama. They can remove over love combinations and songs. I know there is people who loves this kind of over dramatic movies. can't give this movie above 5 in 10.

Mismatching costumes for CBI officer Heroin, with high heal fancy foot wear no way.....

but we can't expect who is Rudra... that is a wonderful try, hats off.

A CBI officer goes in search of a ruthless serial killer. Things get worse when the murderer targets the former and her family

Imaikka Nodigal Review: Imaikka Nodigal is another film which joins the bandwagon of thriller flicks released in Kollywood in the recent times. But it isn't just another attempt, as it has its own moments, thrills, suspense, action and emotions. Though the movie is only 10 minutes less then three hours, the plot kicks off right from the word go. There isn't any establishment scenes or spoon feeding of sorts. The very first scene conveys the mood and premise of this thriller flick - set against Bangalore, a psycho killer is having a whale of a time by finishing off people in his list. The hero (or heroine), Anjali Vikramadityan (Nayanthara), a CBI officer, is introduced quickly and her first shot has her in a serious mission. We hardly know her details or plans behind the mission, but this fast-paced narration lights up the mood interestingly. In no time, the killer's case becomes a sensational one in the city. In a press meet organised by a few top CBI officials, he himself sends messages to them and the journos that he is Rudra, the notorious killer, who the police department claimed to have killed five years ago.

The cat and mouse game between Anjali and Rudra officially begins from there on. At one point, Anjali gets the shock of her life when she realises why he's after her and her family. Apart from Rudra's threat, she also has to deal with her senior officer Narayan's (Devan) ego. Meanwhile, the love story between Arjun (Atharvaa) and Kritika (Raashi Khanna) becomes a turning point in the case. The story moves forward intriguingly when Anjali, Rudra, Arjun and Kritika get involved in it.

Anurag Kashyap as the menacing killer has given one of his best performances in his Kollywood debut. Like similar characters we have seen in other movies, this one, too, has an impressive back story. Nayanthara as the brainy, suave CBI officer, does justice to her role, and comes up with an arresting performance in a crucial flashback scene. Atharvaa's role is also neatly etched, and he impresses with his fights and emotional scenes. Raashi is apt in her role and Vijay Sethupathi, in a cameo, ensures that he makes an impact even in a small role.

Though the film stays true to its genre, with cinematographer Rajasekar and music director Hip Hop Tamizha coming to aid, the love track between Atharvaa and Raashi, and the entire duration should have been trimmed to make it a better product. Apart from a few make-believe scenes, the director manages to keep the twists unpredictable and the thrill factor engaging till the end.
  • Best Movie..... Thriller.. Nayanthara Best Choice For This Movie It's Lead The Movie Her Expression Nice Suspence, Thriller , Drama All In One Movie ..

  • Movie was taken by a brilliant Director. The villain and the supporting actors made the movie amazing. Can be nominated for film of the year award.

2018 was a fantastic year for Tamil cinema. Imaikkaa Nodigal is another example why.

Kudos to the director for believing in the audience and crafting a detailed and twisty plot that requires attention. Usually, I can predict the twists in a movie but this one had a few tricks up its sleeve. Nice!

Performance-wise, everybody is at the top of their game. Nayanthara and Anurag create perfect tension in their scenes while Atharvaa and Rashi add some sweet innocence to the cold proceedings of the plot.

Hiphop Tamizha has brought their A-game and delivered easily my favorite album of the year. Hence, I wasn't bored or annoyed at the beautiful songs like Vilambara Idaiveli and Neeyum Naanum Anbe. His background score elevates each scene to perfection as well.

The fact that I was totally invested for the near three hours of the movie says a lot. This movie combines Atharvaa's love track and Nayanthara's crime track into an entertaining film. I loved the love scenes, fight scenes, and emotional scenes.

This isn't your average cat-and-mouse cop thriller. I would definitely recommend a watch and I guarantee you will find at least one thing to love about this brilliant film.

A psychopathic serial killer comes back to haunt the cop responsible for his death.....or may be not..An interesting movie with a fast plot.
  • Awesome performance by Atharvaa, Nayanthara and Anurag. Awesome songs and soundtracks and a unexpected twist. It's brutal violence suits the movie and it's characters.
  • Nayanathara is getting better and better with her matured look. As everyone feels Anurag leads the movie. Didn't get bored but there were more to cut. There were few logic issues and unnecessary scenes but overall it's a good work by a 29 years old director.
  • Here's a gist of what works and what doesn't in R Ajay Gnanamuthu's second directorial outing:

    What Works:

    1. The casting choices - The three lead characters that appear on the film's poster are ideal choices. While Atharvaa mostly works from his comfort zone, Nayantara has done a remarkable job. In fact, hats off to her script choices of late. She is indeed the LADY SUPERSTAR (in an industry dominated by men) of our times for good reason. Anurag Kashyap pulls off his serial killer role with consummate ease, hamming it up only when needed. Vijay Sethupathi is wonderful in his little cameo role!

    2. The cat-and-mouse narrative - Where the film scores the most is in its crafting of the lion-hyena theory that Kashyap's character mentions. There are a few edge-of-the-seat moments embedded in this thriller.

    3. Technical crew - Some smart cinematography skills exhibited by RD Rajasekhar and efficient re-recording work from Hip Hop Thamizha. Some scenes would have benefited from a less noisy background score though. Songs are passable!

    What Doesn't:

    1. The run-time - 170 minutes for a thriller is ideal only if it has racy scenes and plenty of nail-biter moments. Unfortunately, there are commercial compromises made in the form of a bar song, a tepid romance (featuring Atharvaa and Rashi Khanna), and lengthy flashbacks. While the flashbacks atleast contribute to character development, the other two are pointless and makes the writing look a little lazy.

    2. Turning your brain off - It doesn't help when there are moments/scenes that have been forcefully inserted to add to the emotional side of certain characters. Also, 'motive revelation' is a dampener. Logic, during a few instances, does take a backseat.

    3. The ideas needed better execution - The film does put forward a couple of interesting hypotheses but these work better on paper than on screen. The transition from paper to screen isn't as smooth as one would expect!
