  • Warning: Spoilers
This over two hours-long behind the scenes making of documentary covers the production of Rob Zombie's horror film "31" in fascinatingly through detail as it covers everything from a pre-production meeting to location scouting to wardrobe to casting (the taped auditions for certain cast members are a lot of fun to watch), with an especially extensive and illuminating emphasis on the movie's frantic twenty day shooting schedule.

During the course of the documentary one sees that Zombie is a very meticulous and passionate filmmaker who perceives the script as basically a blueprint that's open to being changed as needed and creates a collaborative atmosphere on the set which gives the cast a lot of freedom to do their thing. Richard Brake admits that he relished doing a sex scene with legendary 80's porn star Ginger Lynn, Meg Foster praises Zombie as a true cinematic artist, Keven Jackson talks about going that extra mile and being true as an actor, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs notes that his death scene was a real challenge to play, Zombie reveals that Malcom McDowell was primarily cast as Father Murder due to his iconic status, and Pancho Moler happily discusses Zombie recommending to him that he say a lot of his lines in Spanish. Moreover, we also learn that two separate locations were used as Murderworld, the bathroom location was made to look nastier, the vagina lips doorway was one of the few sets built for the film, and the home movie montage footage of the carnival workers was shot on Zombie's portable phone. Essential viewing for fans of the film.
