It’s an interesting month on HBO and Max this March, as two acclaimed films hit the streamer along with some intriguing original programming.
First up in the movies arena is the streaming debut of Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet. From beloved Paddington director Paul King, the film follows the adventures of a young Willy Wonka as he looks to become the world’s best (and weirdest) chocolatier. Later in March on Max, there’s also Dream Scenario, a highly-regarded comedy boasting Nicolas Cage as Paul Matthews, who suddenly starts appearing in people’s dreams for unknown reasons, and who naturally becomes very famous as a result of this strange phenomena.
Series-wise, the biggest show on Max this month is The Regime. It packs a solid cast, including Kate Winslet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant, and tells the story of “life within the walls of a modern...

With a premiere-heavy March ahead at HBO, there will be plenty to stream this month on Max!
The first Sunday of March brings the premiere of HBO’s new six-episode limited series “The Regime,” starring HBO alum Kate Winslet. Throughout the rest of the month, don’t rest on the streamer’s long list of library additions, like the recent musical origin story “Wonka” or A24’s sleeper hit (so to speak) “Dream Scenario”; and be sure some of the HBO’s biggest premieres, including “The Girls on the Bus” starring Melissa Benoist and Ramy Youssef’s “More Feelings” make it onto your calendar.
Plus, there’s no March without March Madness! For the first time, Max will stream all of the 2024 [NCAA] Division Men’s Basketball Championship live games and studio coverage airing on TBS, TNT, and truTV, including the NCAA Men’s Final Four National Semifinals and Men’s National Championship.

Michael Mann and Edgar-winning author Meg Gardiner are at it again, folks! Mann announced today that the duo will collaborate on a new original story that fans of Mann’s signature style will lose their heads for. According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, the new novel focuses on “an intense global manhunt launched by a renegade federal agent and a stateless operator on a vendetta, in a highly authentic global arena.” A Michael Mann manhunt novel, you say? Do go on!
Mann and Gardiner’s new novel is aiming at having franchise appeal. As the first book in a new series, the project is Mann’s second novel from Michael Mann Books after signing a three-book deal with HarperCollins arm William Morrow. Jennifer Brehl, who served as the editor of Mann and Gardiner’s Heat 2, will also work her magic on the new novel.

The Ferrari director has confirmed that Heat 2 is definitely on the way and production is set to begin in 2024.
Heat is, without a question, Michael Mann’s best, most acclaimed film. Featuring powerhouse performances from Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, it’s a timeless classic of crime cinema. Mann has long been planning a sequel for the film, and there has been much speculation about whether one will ever materialise – and if so, when.
In 2022, Mann announced Heat 2 as a novel and in 2023, we finally got confirmation that a film was also on the way. The novel takes place one day after the events of the original film, but events also flash back and forward, spanning several years.
Mann has just released his latest film, Ferrari, into the world. The film, which stars Adam Driver as racing driver and automotive entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari, has been met with mixed reviews,...

By his own admission, Austin-based filmmaker Richard Linklater is always working on something. In fact, in his own words in a new Interview piece, he says, “I’m always working on a few things, so I don’t really know. Doesn’t matter if they’re secret; no one cares.” That last part is certainly not true, but the “secret he is referring to is something involving actor Ethan Hawke, who is essentially Linklater’s De Niro.

Are you starting to feel the heat around the corner? Adam Driver certainly is. Consider it officially official that acclaimed director Michael Mann, who earlier this year was reported to be eyeing Driver as the lead of the feature film adaptation of his own novel "Heat 2," is gunning for the "House of Gucci" and "The Last Duel" star to step into the incredibly intimidating shoes of none other than Robert De Niro himself.
Famously cast as career criminal Neil McCauley in the original 1995 "Heat" opposite Al Pacino as cop Vincent Hanna, De Niro earned all sorts of recognition (although tragically not a Best Actor nom) for his performance in what's commonly considered one of the greatest action movies of all time. The fact that Mann even wants to return to the scene of the crime and attempt to bring his long-awaited sequel/prequel novel (co-written by both Mann and...

“This was not planned,” says stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco about his auto-biopic comedy About My Father making it to the screen.
“This is not something I had on my vision board,” he tells us on today’s Crew Call.
About My Father, directed by Laura Terruso, and written by Austen Earl and Maniscalco, follows the stand-up as he meets his posh wife’s well-to-do family. Complicating matters is Maniscalco’s salon stylist immigrant Italian father, Salvo (played by Robert De Niro) is also along for the ride.
Earl and Maniscalco bonded as both of their wives “come from a better cut of cloth” as the stand-up puts it.
How did Terruso win the job?
“She had –I don’t know what the hell it was–a power point presentation,” Maniscalco tells us, “She came in with visuals of what the wardrobe is going to be; I’m a visual guy.

Last month, we shared the news that Robert De Niro had signed on to star in a TV series for the first time in his career, as he’ll be starring in and executive producing the six-episode limited series Zero Day for Netflix. Now Deadline reports that De Niro has signed on for another series. He’ll be starring in the crime drama Bobby Meritorious for the Paramount+ streaming service, which is also home to the Sylvester Stallone crime drama series Tulsa King.
Billy Ray, whose credits include Richard Jewell, Terminator: Dark Fate, Captain Phillips, and The Hunger Games, is writing Bobby Meritorious, telling a story that is set amongst the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, which is a sovereign kingdom with seemingly unlimited power and scope. But now an informant in Sdny’s biggest case, Avery “The Sage” Accomando is poised to tear this storied institution apart.

Robert De Niro is officially set to make his debut as the lead of a TV series.
Netflix has given a series order to Zero Day, a six-episode conspiracy thriller that will star the two-time Oscar winner. The limited series, which courted De Niro late last year, comes from Narcos showrunner Eric Newman, former NBC News president Noah Oppenheim and New York Times writer Michael S. Schmidt. Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland, Mad Men) has signed on to direct all six installments.
“I am a lifelong fan of Robert De Niro. To have him as a producing partner and star in this show is beyond my wildest dreams,” Newman said in a statement. “And Lesli Linka Glatter has directed so many of my favorite episodes of television; she was our clear first choice to direct this show. If a story about a reformed killer returning to his murderous ways to hunt down and slaughter Russian mobsters sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the synopsis for “John Wick.” It’s also, however, the premise of “Clean,” director Paul Solet’s thriller — co-written by leading man Adrien Brody — about a hit man getting back in homicidal business. Obvious and derivative in borderline-shameless fashion, it’s That’ll make it a tough sell following its Tribeca Film Festival premiere (delayed from last year), although genre fans hungry for hackneyed action with a healthy dose of “Taxi Driver”-ish brooding may welcome its by-the-numbers mayhem.
In a dark, wintery New York City, Clean (Brody) performs his garbageman duties in the early morning, musing in interior monologues about the “sea of filth. An endless onslaught of ugliness … Where does it all go? I’ve got blood on my hands. I’m stained.

"This is where you start your new life, or what's left of it..." Leomark Studios has unveiled an official trailer for an indie fighting action movie titled Unchained, made by a filmmaker known only as "Raphaello". To Rise You Must Be Willing to Fall. The first time that producer Ted Templeman saw Van Halen playing at the Starwood in West Hollywood one night in 1977, he burst out of the club’s doors to find the nearest payphone. He called Donn Landee, a recording engineer he worked closely with, and left several messages. “You’ve got to see this guy,” was all he could say, referring to the band’s flashy guitar player, Eddie Van Halen. At the time, Templeman was working at Warner Bros. and he had only one thought in his mind: “I had to make this deal.

Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen were not the most likely of friends. After David Lee Roth acrimoniously left Van Halen in 1985, Roth recruited Vai — an Eddie Van Halen–inspired, finger-tapping virtuoso — for his solo band. Vai played on Roth’s albums Eat ‘Em and Smile and Skyscraper – and tackled Eddie Van Halen’s guitar parts on tour. That created a bit of awkwardness between Vai and his guitar hero, Van Halen. But the day Vai left Roth’s band in 1989, Eddie called him up. It was the beginning of a deep friendship.

Fans had become so obsessed over Leonardo DiCaprio‘s quest to actually win that elusive Academy Award that they could scarcely believe their eyes when it finally happened at the fifth attempt after he picked up the Best Actor trophy for his ferociously committed lead performance in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s The Revenant. It was certainly a well-deserved win, though.
After scooping up the award that had eluded him throughout his entire career, DiCaprio then proceeded to take a four-year break from acting before finally making his long-awaited return in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, resulting in yet more critical and commercial acclaim for the Django Unchained collaborators.

Momentum Pictures and Millennium Films have released the first trailer for Nicolas Cage's new action film 211. The film is based on the true story of one of the longest and bloodiest events in police history. Here's the synopsis:
Officer Mike Chandler (Cage) and a young civilian passenger as they find themselves under-prepared and outgunned when fate puts them squarely in the crosshairs of a daring bank heist in progress by a fearless team of highly trained and heavily armed men. The title, 211, refers to the police code in the state of California for a robbery.
If you're a fan of Nicolas Cage then the movie looks like it's worth watching. This actually looks like a pretty kickass role for him to take on. It looks better than a lot of films that he's been doing these days.
