  • To the concerned parent. Clearly this girl "identifies" as a much older woman, as well as a professional law enforcement officer. Obviously she is neither. I suppose that is why they intended this film to be for families and gave it a PG rating. Not to mention, Lou Diamond Phillips is a pure Gentleman. I see no harm here.

    Move along.

    Good Day.

    Warning: Spoilers
A bit shocked to watch a great actor such as Lou Diamonds Phillips in this kind of movie.

To my taste it i a 4/10, I have seen much better family movies but from this point of view I would give a 5/10.

It is OK overall. The drones are quite good and give an edge to the film.

Lovely relationship between the two protagonists.
  • As you may know, the original "Cop and a Half" movie that came out in 1993 was an instant joke that deservedly got trashed by critics, and today is still considered a low point in the history of Hollywood cinema. But it must have eventually made a lot of money on video and cable TV broadcasts, because twenty four years later comes this direct to DVD sequel. And the only good thing that this sequel manages to do is illustrate that the original movie could have been a lot worse. This movie manages to be bad in every way you can think of. The scripting is alternately predictable and ludicrous (particularly with what happens in the climax), the special effects are cheesy, and poor Lou Diamond Phillips looks very tired, haggard, and clearly knows he's in a turkey. However, the worst thing about the movie happens to be the character child actress Lulu Wilson plays. The character is possibly the most obnoxious child character I have ever seen in movie. Certainly the dialogue and situations Wilson has to play out play a part of this, but a bigger reason is Wilson's performance, which is unbelievably broad and grating, not allowing for even a little sympathy for her and her character. I know this movie is strictly aimed at a kiddie audience, but I think even kids will realize the utter contempt this movie will throw at them.
  • Karina (Lulu Wilson) wants to be a cop like her deceased father. Therefore, at school, she is always snooping and "hall monitoring" and no one really likes having her on their trails. Even the principal (Wallace Shawn) loses patience at times although he wants to cut the fatherless girl a few breaks. One day, Karina somehow runs into a real cop, Detective Simmons (Lou Diamond Phillips), who is also having some trying times. Soon, she is trailing him, much to his chagrin. The town they live in, meanwhile, is being punked maliciously by anonymous; the library has books moved around while other incidents occur at the post office and other government agencies. When Karina is knocked down by a drone, both she and Simmons get the idea that drones are involved with the other activities. But, how do they find the perp? This cute family film, a sorta sequel to the darling first film, has a clever girl and the fine actor Lou Diamond Philips as its primary charms. The sets, costumes, and script are adequate and harmless, with comedy ensuing most of the time. Therefore, if you are looking for family entertainment, this one isn't half bad/
  • I was disappointed to see that there was a secret relationship with a grown man in a position of authority and a 12 year old girl, a relationship that continued through texting and sharing photosย after the "case" was over. Children and adults are not friends and a 12 year old girl has no business secretly meeting up with a 50 year old man.

The story line of a 12 year old girl who dreams of being a cop but is vulnerable and unsupervised by her single parent mom is not a unique one, however considering the threats to online dangers for youth I am surprised by the themes portrayed.
  • I found this movie in Redbox and although it's not going to win any awards, I thought it was light fun and a movie that the whole family could enjoy.

Lou Diamond Phillips and Lulu Wilson are excellent in the lead roles here. Phillips portrays the veteran Detective Simmons, who doesn't have much use for the latest technologies. He'll get some help from the tech savvy 12-year-old Karina Foley whose late father was a policeman and it's a job she wants to eventually hold. By circumstance, they'll work together on a case where someone is pulling pranks at one municipal venue after another, threatening the town's popular annual festival. The quirky characters in the supporting cast add well to mix here also.

All in all, this comedy is a diversion from heavy dramas or action flicks, and surprisingly I found myself laughing quite a lot and enjoying the movie.
  • A sequel to a 24 year old film! I'm not talking a film like 'Blade Runner'. It was considered a flop, but the concept looked good, particularly for a children's film. This is not a follow up story. Entirely a new cast and a new situation. The story of a young girl Karina, influenced by her late cop father, she's interested in fighting, solving crimes. So she frequently ends up in the principal office in her school. On one day, she comes across a cop who is trying to follow a lead to a man responsible for a series of vandals around the city. This unusual team-up, sees an unexpected success, how it all happens that you should watch it to know.

The casting was decent, but the lead two guys were good. Particularly Lulu. Seems one of the future big star on making. The story, it's okayish. Predictable, but also enjoyable. Acceptable graphics, better one for television quality. There were lots of silly scenes, but overall a much entertaining film. Just a cinematic story, it does not make sense in the real world. A film that brings together kids and adults, a pure family film and a perfect weekend film. Such films do not make any harm, only you have to put aside a while your rational mind to have a good time.

    6.5/10
  • This is not a remake or a knockoff of the first one with Burt, but i really enjoyed this film because it was fresh and new and had good feel to it that connected with the actors. I would highly recommend this to watch with your kids and see how good this film is..
  • The original film had Burt Reynolds and Norman D. Golden II as mismatched partners. The producers here have updated the idea by replacing the Southern Gentleman and African American boy, and added more fancy toys for the villain to play with.

The antics wouldn't look out of place in a Spy Kids movie; the adults are idiots and only tech savvy and self appointed Hall Monitor, Karina can put the pieces together to solve a vexxing case that is more about humour than anything too deadly, which given its audience is PG, that's not really a surprise. It just wouldn't work if there was a body count, and it could even have made better sense to include a reason why that was; the villain was just a rubbish shot or was searching for some targeting-thingy and then they'd be unstoppable. Instead you have early Bond style lucky escapes that look a bit cheesy.

Lou Diamond Phillips is not bad as the conflicted Detective, seemingly playing both the driven John McClane and the conflicted Al Powell roles. Adverse to new technology - still using a flip phone - and instead used to old school methods.

In contrast, Lulu Wilson is very animated. Practically practically always on her phone and able to pull the story along with sequential "Eureka" moments; something happens in her normal life that gives her an idea to crack the case. Her phone itself is pretty amazing, and at times the action sequences and CGI were more believable than what she was doing with her iPhone.

Given the Captain was more mock hard ass, I wish it would have been Wendie Malick, though maybe that's because I remember Janet Kidder from her role in Arrow. And I wish they'd included Gina Holden as Sarah Foley a bit more; yes, the main plot revolves around the relationship her daughter and Detective Simmons builds, but apart for maybe one scene, mom seemingly has no interaction with daughter.

An OK, gunge style, kids film that fortunately went easy on the cartoon sound effects and over the top make up.

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said. This is a fun film with likable characters. Lulu Wilson is as cute as can be and it's nice to see Lou Diamond Phillips play a lighter role than his usual more intense parts. Granted this hits all the typical buttons you'd expect but for kids it's just right. All in all I like it and I think it's better than the original.

  • I Heard about this FILM. I have not watched a Lou Dimond Phillips Film in a Long time. So i thought OH OK it looked Cheesy but I will give it a WATCH. Very surprised it ACTUALLY was a Very Fast past FILM. Great Story the young girl was very Smart and taught a Cop a thing or Two LOL. She wanted to be a Cop so BAD she was SMARTER than him. I really enjoyed the Story line. Seeing Lue again was Cool to because I have not seen him in anything in a while and this FILM. It was way better then I expected it to be. Great FILM for a Family night as well. There was No Swearing, No Nudity, No Fuielty, PRETTY MUCH A FAMILY FILM. FROM THE AGES I WOULD SAY 10 and up. So if your a Family that likes Action, Comedy, No Fuel Language, FUNNY STUFF. ( There is a tiny bit of School picking on KIDS. But VERY VERY LITTLE BIT)-NOT TO THE POINT WHEN THE KID IS CRYING ABOUT IT. THE KID DEVENDES HIMSELF. So if your a PARENT looking for a Decent FILM. The way Film's are made in the Last 15 years. This is one of the Better ones in my option. Enjoy this FILM I give it a 8 out of 10. Because of course it was underrated. But that was WRONG BECAUSE IT WAS AND IS A GREAT FILM. NEVER LISTEN TO ROTTEN TOMATOES WHY????? Because they are THE WORST FOR RATING MOVIES. INJOY THIS FILM.
  • Not sure why this movie does not have a higher rating. It had action and a few funny parts. The lead girl was a great actor! This movie has everything a family movie should it in. No foul language or sex references, like you would normally see in g PG movie. I was not bord by this flick at all and neither was my son. I say if you have kids this is a PERFECT movie for fam movie night. Not sure why not many ppl have seen this one but hopefully in me writing this review, they will change their minds and at least give it a shot. Cheesy at times but I like cheesy so it works. I highly recommend and leave some of your logic at the door. I will definitely be watching this one again.
