Notes from the Blacklist (2011)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Highly entertaining documentary that features producer Bernard Gordon being interviewed about his career, which included films like THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS, EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS, EL CID and HORROR EXPRESS. The producer got to do this interview a couple years before it death and we should be thankful that it was done because he gets to tell some terrific stories including some dealing with Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren. While his career is the main focus, the main draw to this documentary is the McCarthy Era and how Gordon got blacklisted. He goes into some great details talking about how anyone on the blacklist would have to sneak around for work and how they just wouldn't get credit for it. This was certainly one of the darkest times for Hollywood so any stories about it are fascinating and this here is a very good one.
