It was almost exactly one year ago when we learned that Hugh Grant – whose credits include Notting Hill, Love Actually, Wonka, and Unfrosted – had signed on to star in the A24 horror film Heretic, which is coming our way from the writing and directing duo of Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. Now Deadline reports that A24 is planning to give Heretic a wide theatrical release on November 15th.
Details are scarce, but the story has something to do with two missionaries that attempt to convert a dangerous man. Here’s how Deadline describes it: Two young missionaries become ensnared in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse after they knock on the wrong front door.
There’s no word on who Grant plays in this scenario, but it would be very cool to see him take on the role of the dangerous man, and it seems likely that we’re going to.

The story of Beowulf and Grendel is one of the most famous stories in English literature. The epic Beowulf is one of the most important works of English literature in general and it has been an inspiration for many authors over the centuries. We have also had numerous adaptations of the work, including the animated film from 2007, but all of them focused on the heroic tale of Beowulf, the hero of the story. But, the story also has another important character – Grendel – the monster and Beowulf’s rival in the story.
Grendel is finally going to get the chance to tell you his side of the story, as the movie Grendel will be released soon, with Palisades Park Pictures is launching international sales ahead of Cannes.

Mutilator 2, writer/director Buddy Cooper’s long-awaited follow-up to his 1984 slasher The Mutilator (pick up a copy Here), is ready to make its way out into the world. The movie even screened at Joe Bob Briggs’ latest drive-in Jamboree event back in October, and received an “audience favorite” award there. And yet it still hasn’t secured a distribution deal. Cooper confirmed this on Facebook, where he wrote, “We are still searching for distribution. It might help if a few fans asked their favorite streaming service or theater when they would be showing Mutilator 2. If enough people show an interest, I feel like a distributor would be willing to help get it out to everyone.“

Agatha Christie was the master of the perfectly constructed mystery; Oscar winner Hildur Guðnadóttir is an avant-garde cellist-composer. Yet the two meet to spine-tingling results for Kenneth Branagh’s third Hercule Poirot mystery, “A Haunting in Venice,” a loose adaptation of Christie’s “Hallowe’en Party.”
As it turns out, there’s a very good reason why Guðnadóttir might find pleasure in Christie’s work. “My grandmother, who was one of the first women doctors in Iceland and a brilliant virologist, always said that the only way to get a tiny break from your mind is to read a good detective novel or crime story,” Guðnadóttir told IndieWire.
“So, since I was very young, I have lived by this advice,” Guðnadóttir said. “And I have always wanted to sink my teeth into an Agatha Christie adaptation. When Ken approached me about this one, he was really clear from the get-go...

65, the “Adam Driver vs. dinosaurs” movie from the writing and directing duo of Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, didn’t have great success at the box office, but Beck and Woods aren’t letting that disappointment slow them down. They’re about to go into production on a new horror project called Heretic, which is set up at A24 – and The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Hugh Grant is in talks to star in the film!
Beck and Woods have written the script for the film. Details are scarce, but apparently the story has something to do with two missionaries that attempt to convert a dangerous man. There’s no word on who Grant would be playing this scenario, but it would be very cool to see him take on the role of the dangerous man. He has previously said that he finds villain roles to be “more fun” to play.

With Hugh Grant firmly in the “distinguished character actor” phase of his career — think showy supporting roles in “Paddington 2,” “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” and “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” — the British thespian may be joining the A24 horror sandbox.
TheWrap has confirmed Grant is in negotiations to join the cast of “Heretic,” written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, which has the now standard “plot under wraps” thing going for it. But it’s a new horror film from the guys who wrote the first “A Quiet Place” and went on to direct haunted house slasher “Haunt” and the recent Adam Driver sci-fi flick “65.” They also wrote the recent Stephen King adaptation “The Boogeyman” which was slated for a Hulu debut before getting promoted to wide theatrical release.
Hugh Grant not tolerating anyone’s buffoonery at the 2023 Oscars
Deadline first reported the news.

Hugh Grant is in talks to star in the new movie from A Quiet Place creatives Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, which is being backed by A24.
Beck and Woods wrote and will direct the horror movie, titled Heretic. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources say that the story centers on two missionaries that attempt to convert a dangerous man.

Adam Driver is in full-blown solider mode in "65." The new prehistoric sci-fi thriller, which was written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (the co-writers of "A Quiet Place" and the directors of "Haunt"), poses the question of what would happen if, essentially, a human armed with futuristic weaponry did battle with dinosaurs from Earth's distant past. In her review for /Film, Sarah Milner wrote that "65" delivers when it comes to scares and action, but feels a little derivative of other sci-fi tentpoles -- especially (and unsurprisingly) "Jurassic Park," although there are also shades of "The Last of Us" and the "Alien" franchise.
In "65," Driver's workmanlike character, Mills, discovers a young girl named Koa (Ariana Greenblatt) after his ship crash-lands on a mysterious planet. Mills and Koa are the only two survivors of the wreck as they fight to stay alive in incredibly hostile conditions. Driver...

Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the writers behind A Quiet Place and writers/directors of Haunt, seek to resuscitate the long-dormant horror adventure of yesteryear with 65, complete with survival elements, hostile creatures on a foreign planet, and even deadly quicksand. Only the foreign planet is Earth, 65 million years ago, and the hostile creatures are indigenous dinosaurs. That’s terrible news for a pair of travelers who’ve crash landed there. All of that should make for a feature far more thrilling than it is.
65 opens with a serene beach scene far from Earth to introduce Mills (Adam Driver), a man grappling with accepting a pilot job that will keep him from his family for two years. The position is necessary; Mills needs the money to pay for his sickly daughter Nevine (Chloe Coleman) to get the medical treatment she desperately needs. 65 Directors Beck/Woods Reveal The Secret Of Making An Effective Monster Movie [Exclusive Interview]
It's hard to believe that the film "65," short for "65 Million Years Ago," is a real movie. Produced by genre legend Sam Raimi, the newest feature film from Scott Beck and Bryan Woods stars Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt as two human-like beings from beyond the galaxy who crash land on an unexplored alien planet. Despite their advanced technology and space-age weaponry, these are not beings from the future, but 65 million years ago. The planet they crash onto turns out to be our own mother Earth.
The result is a sci-fi adventure film that sounds like something straight out of a child's imagination. Driver's spaceman pilot Mills has to shoot lasers at Cretaceous-era dinosaurs in the hopes of getting him and Greenblatt's young Koa back home to safety. While the leading man has already proven himself as a formidable sci-fi action star thanks to his turn as Kylo Ren...

Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the directors of this weekend’s dinosaur thriller 65, and the film’s producer Sam Raimi recently sat down to answer fan questions during a Reddit Ama session, and some interesting information came out of that series of Qs and As. For example, Beck and Woods revealed that a sequel to their 2019 slasher Haunt is in the works, and Raimi mentioned that members of his Ghost House Pictures production team are trying to come up with a story for a sequel to his 2009 film Drag Me to Hell. During the session, Raimi also named his personal favorite Sam Raimi movie – and let fans know he has a couple options to choose from when the time comes for him to direct his next movie.

Scott Beck and Bryan Woods followed up the massive success they had by writing the screenplay for the creature feature A Quiet Place by writing and directing their own film, Haunt, a slasher that takes place in a twisted haunted house attraction. Beck and Woods are currently doing press for their big budget sci-fi thriller 65, which was produced by Sam Raimi, and during a Reddit Ama session they revealed that a sequel to Haunt is in the works!
When asked if there’s any chance for a Haunt sequel, Woods answered: “We can confirm that conversations for a Haunt sequel are officially underway. Happy (early) Halloween!!“
Produced by Eli Roth, Haunt is set on Halloween night and follows a group of friends who encounter an “extreme” haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night turns deadly as they come to the horrifying realization that some monsters are real.

They are a staple in the genre, with beloved franchises like "Evil Dead," "Scream," and "Friday the 13th" going on for decades. Horror is an enduring genre, and it is definitely ripe for sequels, re-quels, and reboots — and it looks like we have one on the way for the underrated Halloween terror "Haunt."
In a Reddit Ama (short for "Ask Me Anything") session for the upcoming Beck and Woods film "65," a fan asked if there was any hope for a sequel to the directorial duo's often-glossed-over haunted house movie. Fans (myself included!) will be delighted to know that the response was positive. "Thanks for the support. We can confirm that conversations for a 'Haunt' sequel are officially underway," replied Bryan Woods, who is one half of the duo alongside Scott Beck.

Back in 2019, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place) wrote and directed the slasher movie Haunt, which has become a Halloween favorite here in the horror community. Set on a Halloween night, it follows a group of friends who encounter a haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night, of course, turns deadly for the group.
Are there any plans for the storyline to continue in a Haunt sequel? During a Reddit Ama this week, Beck and Woods broke the news that Haunt 2 talks are indeed taking place!
Beck and Woods responded to a fan over on Reddit, “We can confirm that conversations for a Haunt sequel are officially underway. Happy (early) Halloween!!”
Up next from Scott Beck and Bryan Woods is the Adam Driver dinosaur movie 65, which the duo wrote and directed. That film is coming to theaters on Friday, March 10, 2023.

Earlier this month, Sony Pictures and 21 Laps – the production company behind the hit Netflix series Stranger Things – came out the winners in a competitive bidding situation over the feature film rights to the horror short film Gnomes, which was directed by Ruwan Suresh Heggelman from a script he crafted with Jasper ten Hoor and Richard Raaphorst. Heggelman will be directing the feature, but Deadline reports that Sony and 21 Laps have hired an established Hollywood screenwriting duo to write the script this time around. Those writers are Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, whose previous credits include Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp and the Hulu thriller No Exit. Barrer also wrote the 2013 horror film Haunt, on which Ferrari served as an executive producer.
In addition to co-writing the script for the short version of Gnomes, Raaphorst also produced the film. He’s on board to produce the feature version alongside 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy,...

Written by David Ebeltoft (Here Alone) from a story he co-wrote with Blackhurst, the feature is being sold at the European Film Market in Berlin by Highland Film Group.
Now in postproduction, Blood for Dust follows former friends Cliff (McNairy), a traveling salesman struggling to make a living, and Ricky (Harington), an illegal weapons dealer making serious money, who reconnect one fateful day. Hoping to make some quick cash, Cliff agrees to partner with the violent Ricky, who is expanding his business to include cross-state drug and gun deliveries for John, a mid-level American cartel boss (Josh Lucas). Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report today that new genre studio Welcome Villain Films’ first original production, previously known as Untitled Last Shift Reboot, has a new name
The official title treatment and new film stills have been unveiled for the film, now titled Malum, along with an announced Spring 2023 nationwide theatrical release.
Helmed by director Anthony Diblasi and co-written by Diblasi and Scott Poiley, the same creative team behind 2014’s Last Shift, Malum reimagines the original critically-acclaimed horror hit and expands the filmmakers vision of nightmare-inducing terror.
“With this new film, we really wanted it to stand on its own, and giving it a new title absolutely does that,” says filmmaker Anthony Diblasi. “The name ‘Malum’ is not only a major element of the plot and how things unfold, but that word, in some of the oldest languages in history, means ‘evil’ and ‘an offense against right or law,’ which seamlessly ties into the twisted,...

It feels just like last month we were complimenting Hulu on its true crime offerings. Well, with its list of new releases for February 2023, Hulu is staying in the true crime lane. Suppose that’ll happen when you push back the release date of a series or two.
February sees the arrival of three notable true crime series on Hulu. Taiwan Crime Stories premieres on Feb. 1 and presents four true tales from Taiwan’s criminal “dark underbelly.” That will be followed by ABC News Studios’ Killing County on Feb. 3. That three-episode series ponders the question “what happens when police kill?” The most interesting true crime offering premieres on Feb. 9. That’s when Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence College shares its four-episode saga of Larry Ray and the young college students he victimized.

Extreme haunts aren’t for the faint of heart. Over the years, these gonzo attractions have developed a reputation for roughing up their brave visitors and subjecting them to disgusting and depraved acts. From eating cockroaches to being nailed shut in a coffin, guests are practically tortured before they can exit. Yet despite their notorious practices, an extreme haunt obviously isn’t going to kill anyone, no matter how real or dangerous everything might seem, or how far they go with a scenario. That’s of course where horror movies take over; they defy reality and fulfill the audience’s expectations. And like those that came before it, Haunt wants to make sure its patrons have a hell of a story to tell — so long as they can make it out alive.

Written by Helford with Emily Wilson (“The Conners”) supervising, the multi-cam project follows two teenagers navigating parenthood in the best way they know how. With a little help from their friends and parents, they’ll learn that mistakes in life don’t have to derail your life – that no matter what age you are, taking care of a child is no joke – but sometimes, you just gotta laugh (or cry) your way through it.
Helford is co-executive producing the potential series. Wilson is an executive producer along with Samie Falvey and Erik Feig for PictureStart, and Chris Mills and Chris Emerson for Authentic.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan (pictured) has announced the imminent shutdown of all businesses across the country after 10 p.m., including restaurants, movie theaters and concert venues, as the country looks to stem a rise in coronavirus cases.
Turkey tallied 2,343 new cases on Tuesday according to national health ministry data released in local media. The figures indicated that the overall count now stands at 382,118 coronavirus infections and more than 10,000 deaths.
Istanbul, which is the hub of the country’s film and TV industries, is among the provinces suffering from a more severe outbreak, according to Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah, which quoted Health Minister Fahrettin Koca last week announcing that the city currently hosts 40% of the country’s current coronavirus patients.
Nonetheless, film and TV production in Turkey continues undeterred, sources confirmed.
Netflix last month announced they were ramping up production in Turkey with a slate of 10 new film and television projects.

You can never keep a good horror franchise down for too long, and there are currently two new Hellraiser projects in the works, one a feature film reboot and the other an HBO series. There’ve been reports that the big screen reinvention for the long-running brand could end up being delayed, though, after creator Clive Barker filed a lawsuit to regain the rights to the source material.
We haven’t heard any further updates for a few months now, but presumably Barker is much more enthusiastic about the HBO series being spearheaded by Halloween duo David Gordon Green and Danny McBride, because he’s signed on as one of the executive producers. Green is also set to direct the first few episodes, while the scripts are currently being hammered out by Battlestar Galactica veteran Mark Verheiden and Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty.

In a competitive situation, Sony Pictures has landed an untitled sci-fi thriller with “A Quiet Place” scribes Scott Beck and Bryan Woods set to write, direct and produce their original script.
The duo will produce under their newly formed Beck/Woods banner along with Sam Raimi and Zainab Azizi, who will produce for Raimi Productions along with Debbie Liebling. The film marks a reunion for Beck and Woods with Raimi, as the two recently wrote and directed one episode of Raimi’s Quibi series “50 States of Fright.”
Plot details for the original story are being kept under wraps.
“Raimi Productions is proud to be teaming up with Scott Beck and Bryan Woods,” said Raimi. “They have exceeded all expectations in my experience with them at Quibi and we have the utmost confidence in their brilliant story. I am honored to once again be joining forces with our partners at Sony Pictures.
