  • Another full moon night and to the despair of the old man (played by boxing champion Jake LaMotta, of "Raging Bull" fame) he already knows what's about to happen: broken-hearted Tom Waits will sing his heart out in "Downtown Train". Jean-Baptiste Mondino video for its a masterful and poetic work of art with Waits doing his absolute unusual spectacle as he sings and dances in an awkward way while disturbing the peace and quiet of his neighborhood. And the song is a pure charm and full of soul. It hasn't been equaled today in many regards.

Mondino makes excellent composition of images, a well-lit yet mysterious black-and-white cinematography, presenting the countless characters from the neighborhood besides the angry LaMotta there's a sleepless guy of whom we later find out is a single dad, the lonely woman taking care of her beauty, among others.

Yet it's Mr. Waits who owns the show on the street with awkward dance moves as he makes his routine and those are some of the most memorable images in the world of music video - the very last shot without the song playing and his alone dancing with his accordeon is highly memorable. Truly perfect. 10/10.
