  • I just read a much-hated review of this game on this board. Could you have possibly imagined even five years ago that someone would complain that most of the zombies in a game are white? That's where we are, folks.

I put the title in quotation marks because I'm borrowing it from an article about this game. And I agree with it. This game has improvements from its predecessor-- I especially like the fact that so far the enemies aren't cartoonish James Bond movie-like villains. But the animation for the combat is a bit weird to me, and it's maybe even too easy. I've really enjoyed it so far, though. I will probably update this review when I complete it.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Edit: Okay so after finishing the main story and a few side stuff, things have picked up a bit. I found the best weapons in Sunken cargo chests, I found a video for the infinite durability so I don't need to loose those weapons to breaking woohoo! I've explored every inch of the map, the toxic sludge is indeed annoying af it's everywhere truly and makes exploration less fun. It also severely limits your ability to wander around in the wild/forest settings, which is what I was hoping wouldn't be a thing a few months before it came out. Saddened to see that it ended up being so ... I went nearly completely into stamina and that certainly helps make that part feel less annoying.

I still have combat issues with the buttons on the PS5 feeling sticky and at times I'm pressing attack but nothings happening. Maneater actually had this exact same issue, I noticed the issue on the PS4 version too, so I reckon with this game both versions have issues. Paragliding around is fun, with the booster it's a bit better, but you still run out of stamina quickly if there's no vents nearby or if your flying around up high. I flew from the VNC building to the sludge wall and lo and behold an invisible wall stopped me going further, damn that sucked.

The underwater city is cool, that's where all the sunken airdrops are. Difficulty of some bosses was not fun especially with the sticky buttons. Volatiles are unsurvivable, I'm not sure what health you need to survive an encounter with them. Not only that but they have super health. The super precision of ranged npc's this was so annoyingly stupid. The side step dodge has killed me a lot, I have gone flying off buildings because of it. Climbing tall buildings sucks, I was always in a state of stress, nearing a full rage blow out. Climbing radio towers sucks. I still have not been able to get a full RP going, I managed like a 5 min one and than lost sight of what I was doing. I lost track a lot in 1 as well, but at least those were hours long at times. So they more than made up for it in the end.

The last boss sucks as in he was hard af and no I did not have fun, I was nearing a rage quit actually. At the end due to the missiles and despite a reversal of the story to continue the game, there's areas that are completely covered in rubble dust and it's very hard to manoeuvre through these areas, I hope they fix this. Overall it was a fun game, still not Dying Light esque honestly, but fun in certain elements anyways. Obviously the stuff I hated was not fun. I found a lot of beautiful scenery and took a minimum 200 photos, which was great. I'll continue to finish things and see how I feel after I've done most of it. However I reckon that it'll still be the same as it is now, an A for effort essentially.

I look forward to what they'll come up with for DLC's. Hopefully we get some of the Following, as in farm lands, forest like areas, beach areas etc. I really want a wild/forest section, I think I could totally do an RP in there. So yeah hoping for that.

I'm more reminded of like Far Cry New Dawn, specifically that one because that's the one I remember 100% of, than I am Dying Light itself. Everything feels different and although I'm enjoying the scenery and the floaty jump, it just doesn't feel the way I had hoped.

So to point out the issues for me, I can't role play in this, I just don't get that feeling like I did in 1. I had high hopes this one would allow me to do the same, but that is not the case.

The world itself despite the scenery feels generic, number 1 didn't feel this way to me. Probably the reason I don't feel like RP'ing.

I'm of course low level, with zero good upgrades including weapon stuff. So perhaps that's an issue here, but combat feels awful to me.

The stamina bar ruins everything but especially exploration.

A lot of the city is off limits due to some toxic waste, the area I had hoped to go to was not available. The bridge.

Highlights are it's graphically pleasing, even on top of the tallest windmill, even at night on top of that it looked pretty good.

Aiden's voice acting and random lines and such had me laughing a lot, I was having a blast any time he spoke.

The floaty jump is actually a lot of fun and very useful for me, someone who tends to fall a lot. Still died a lot though.

I was honestly more running around and exploring than doing the main quests. So that's all I've picked up so far, but hopefully there's other highlights later on.

I give it an 8 for beauty and Aiden's sometimes hilarious reactions and just being himself. The floaty jump and for the zombies themselves not being quiet as annoying as they are in 1. I like that you can effectively sneak past them and that their not walking up to you every chance they get.

I hope that when I open the entire map that things get a little less generic and that maybe I'll get the feeling to RP. It's not important anyways, I always have 1 for that. It just would've been nice is all.

    9/10
    Good
I'm only like 11 hours in but from what i can tell it's s great game, Definitely an improvement from the first and i'm excited to play more. It's one of those games i can't stop playing😭i look forward to more.
  • This game is fantastic. Killing and Running from zombies is a new pass time hobby of mine because of this game. Trust me. I kill aliens for a living. If you are not play Dying light 2. You're wrong! If you give this game a horrible review because you're woke. You're also wrong!
  • I have about 7 hours in this game and I couldn't be more happy with the game. I had the 1st dying light so I was anticipating this game quite a bit. Its easy to say the combat and parkour systems in this game are world's better than the last. I haven't played much of the story but there's nothing I can find to complain about it. The skills in this game are really fun to use. Although there is a fair amount of bugs here and there.
  • From what I have played so far I am highly enjoying, I loved the first dying light so have been waiting for this sequel for what seems like forever, unfortunately there are a few issues and I'm finding some of the controls especially combat rather difficult, hopefully once a few more updates have been applied the issues will be resolved.

This review is a bit pre-mature as I've yet to finish but here's a few stand outs of the game so far.

Parkour - This a major step up the from Dying Light 1. It takes everything you know and love about Dying Light's parkour and turns it up to 11. This is certainly the best parkour system I've seen in a fist person game.

Environment - While there are a few issues the environment is near perfect, everything has been designed around the parkour element so you'll always find a path on the rooftops of where you need to go.

Graphics - They are a major upgrade from the first game but for a 2022 game it does suffer is some areas. The lighting is not as good as most games nowadays and when you use the flashlight no shadow is cast. But my main issue with the graphics is the NPC's. The faces are very cartoony and the facial animation overall is not acceptable for a game released in 2022. With that said the story is not a major part of the Dying Light franchise so it is not a huge impact on the overall enjoyment of the game.

Performance - This is a bit of a mixed bag, the graphics settings are very limited so it's difficult to tweak it for optimal performance. It's not terrible but it's not great either. With my 1070ti and 9700k with 32gb of ram I was running at about 35-45 fps @1440p on medium to low settings. The game is poorly optimized and mid level systems will struggle to run it. But there is a solution, there is an option to lower the tender resolution then upscale it with post processing.

This takes my fps from about 40 to over 100, the downside is with a lower render resolution textures become blurry.

Combat - Combat has both improved and declined since the release of Dying Light 1. Human vs Human combat has significantly improved since the first game, the flow is much nicer and more defined than before. But Player vs zombie combat has taken a hit, the rag dolls that were in the previous game were pretty incredible. Hit a zombie in the leg and he falls over, kick them and they'll fly backwards and fall on the ground. Kick them into someone spikes and they'll go right through the zombie. Unfortunately with Dying light 2 the rag doll is almost nonexistent. Instead if plays one of several pre-canned animations depending on where you hit a zombie. This is fine at first but becomes very repetitive and apparent it's just repeating the same animations instead of the dynamic rag dolls in Dying Light 1.

Story - I will not be going over this as it's spoiler free and I've yet to finish it.

Conclusion - Overall this is a great sequel and addition to the Dying Light franchise, some of the things that I've mentioned can be fixed post launch and I sincerely hope that Techland does fix them as this has potential to be one of the best games of 2022.
  • I liked it. I think it would've been better than the first game, if there wouldn't have been so many glitches like where the characters were so quiet(the whole cutscene before the final boss was utterly ruined because of the characters being quiet(not the main guy, just npcs)) I couldn't hear them or weren't even there or if someone was on the floor they were standing up but the screen still appeared as if they were on the floor. Just a big glitchy mess but still a semi good game. I think it'll be better once the glitches are fixed. Like the title says, I plan to play it again when I see there's more updates.
  • This is such a great game. You can spend a good week straight playing and still have things to do! Full on action, adventure and choices. This is definitely worth the buy. I'm using the Xbox series x and the graphics are crisp, clean and definitely better than the PS5. I have zero complaints.
  • NO SPOILERS REVIEW

I liked the first game a lot, but even one year after the release, for me, Dying Light 2 is still a downgrade in almost every way.

So many things are changed or adjusted to the point that it's not Dying Light anymore. It feels like a Ubisoft game with a big, open world, forgettable characters, and a story that drags on too long, coupled with excessive grinding for cool gear.

This game demands an excessive amount of grinding if you seek the best weapons, requiring you to kill countless hordes of zombies for trophies to upgrade your consumables or weapon mods. You'll find yourself repeatedly traversing identical-looking areas for inhibitors to increase your stamina or health, or gathering "valuable" resources. Unfortunately, the XP gains from parkouring or fighting in the daytime are very small compared to the first game. One of the faster methods to level up is by climbing windmills, which can be fun because they require parkouring to reach the top, but overall, it gives me a strong modern Ubisoft game vibe that I'm not fond of.

The combat is alright, and melee hits are satisfying enough, but the skills are incredibly unrealistic and weird to use. One thing I dislike is having to battle against humans, who can be annoying to fight against because they block a lot. Overall, the combat system is not terrible, but neither is it exceptional. The Volatiles are fewer but much harder to kill, and it's just very unfun, to be honest. Even in the late game, I wasn't able to kill them without sweating too hard. Perhaps I didn't grind enough for good gear. Most of the perks aren't useful to use. Furthermore, the game lacks any ranged weapons, which is a negative.

The atmosphere is also subpar compared to the first game. The nights are less dark and terrifying, and while the brighter colors make the game look beautiful, they detract from the realism and post-apocalyptic feel that the first game has. This is mostly subjective, though. Another thing that ties into the atmosphere is the emphasized RPG elements. Everything has stats and health bars, and while the first game had some RPG elements, I feel like they are more pronounced and frustrating in this game.

The parkour can also be subjective, but I think that it is much worse in this game. It feels incredibly floaty, unrealistic, and sometimes unresponsive. They added new ways of traversing the world, with the ParaGlider being the most significant addition. You can now glide through the city, but I would prefer only having the parkour system from the first game. The changes they made to the climbing and jumping mechanics detract from the experience and the ParaGlider isn't enough to make it better. They also modified the grappling hook, which, in my opinion, isn't as enjoyable to use as in the first game, although it does better suit the environment.

The graphics are decent, but nothing groundbreaking. The optimization is better than in most modern games, and there's a decent selection of settings to enhance the visual quality and performance. As for the soundtrack, I prefer the first game's music, but this is more than decent as well.

The co-op mode is plagued with bugs that disrupt the flow and immersion of the game. You may encounter issues such as sound glitches, cutscenes not triggering properly, and very buggy interactions with NPCs and buttons. Although I didn't experience any game-breaking bugs, the overall experience was less than decent.

The story, unfortunately, is lackluster and failed to captivate me. I don't think I can explain what I mean by that, without going too deep into the story. The choices in the dialogue are often poorly executed or confusing. The protagonist, Aiden, is forgettable and uninteresting, and the other characters you meet are equally unremarkable, with the exception of the main villain. It's been only a little bit since I finished the game, but I struggle to remember much of the plot beyond the opening and the ending.

In conclusion, Dying Light 2 falls short of living up to the high expectations set by its predecessor. While it's not a terrible game, it is not exceptional either, and it introduces new elements that don't quite fit with the original formula. The excessive grinding for cool gear, forgettable characters, and lackluster story all contribute to a less-than-stellar experience. Additionally, while the combat and graphics are decent, they are not enough to make up for the game's flaws. Overall, while Dying Light 2 can be enjoyable to some extent, it is likely to disappoint those expecting a worthy successor to the beloved original.

The game on ps4 has a lot of glitches but the great game play and the awesome story will make you forget the glitches its a very good game and the side story's is great too I recommend this game.
  • Long awaited sequel to an amazing game. Definitely feels different compared to the other but if you play it like the RPG it wants you to play it as it's a great time. As for the review crying about there only being white males. What about the all the female characters you meet in the first 15 mins? Or throughout the world? Or are you angry it's not a strong minority only game? Never the less...great game.
  • I love the first game, I was very excited for the sequel but what could have been an equally awesome experience ended up a broken, bloated and to some extent disappointing entry. The gameplay is (sort of) it's strong point. When it worked it was fun (both combat and parkour) and this whole sandbox feeling was engaging, at least at the start. After a while not only did it get repetitive, but a lot of glitches were encountered as well(enemies would clip in the environment, objectives not being updated etc). The game was easy, and it would get hard only when the bugs would take place during combat. Still, some enjoyment WAS there, but it got buried under a lot of unfinished and broken issues.

The story wasn't that memorable in the first game, in this one it was even worse. Boring characters, uninspiring settings and missions (with one or two exceptions), and so so SO much dialogue. Techland just wanted to this unrealistic 500 hour thing, and got a bloated story as a result. I love story driven games, but the scenes and dialogue needs to be important somewhat to the narration. Here there was just talking for the sake of talking, each ncp would just ramble endlessly, making me ich to press that skip button. The ending was dump, and up until that point I was just waiting for the game to end.

I'm disappointed in this game, and I really wanted to like it.
  • This game is captivating. It is captivating on every single aspect, from the beautiful and harsh land scapes of the city to the cruelty and gore of the darkest places in the darkness. This game is not perfect but in some ways I actually prefer it to the first game. The first game is great, Crane is a legend, but this has some surprising power to it.

First of all, I love the voice acting, it is SO amazing and in some ways way more convincing that in DL1. Second of all, I know it's a stretch to get the trees and plants to grow on top of a buildings, but I love it. It gives such a organic feeling to the game amd makes it more enjoyable than the first game. Sometimes I just glide down to watch the scenery. The paraglider is a great add.

Third of all, the music is VERY recognizable and I enjoy it.

What makes this a 8/10 game and not more, is the plot. Finding Mia is not a convincing motivation for Aiden to do stuff. I wish he was fleshed out more. Lawan and Hakon are a great add and I enjoy connecting with both of them, but Mia stays as a distant character that I have no reason to go after.

Overall this game is a great experience. Now on my second play through and nearly 300 hours behind, the story keeps on going.
  • Dying light 2 is an amazing game with a brilliant environment and the perfect soundtrack to fit every mission and through free roam. This game in my opinion is a big step up from the first game and this game makes you want to play on. The main character Aiden is a pretty decent protagonist with a tragic backstory on how is so called sister Mia got taken away from him by a doctor named Waltz. Who you later find out that Mia was his daughter and that Aiden made a promise to him that he wouldn't leave and not to Mia. The final decison of the game on whether to leave Mia or save Lawan was a hard one in my opinion and I think the other decisions were a bit lack Luster although pretty intense at some moments.

I played the first game I didn't like it as much as I liked the sequel. The games as some amazing graphics it's all looks so Beautiful and the combat is easy to learn and simple to use and it's so smooth. The parkour is way better in this game than the last it's much more easy to do than In the first game. The world is huge with so much to do and explore and the map is so good looking. The zombies are scary especially at night and the zombies have great designs. The story is great and the game lets you choose what to say and let's you make Choices that affect the world around you and the story! The voice acting is great and I had no clue that Rosario Dawson was in the game. Overall the games is fantastic and way better than the first.

The game was pretty good. I like it. The combat is fun, the graphics are great. The story is not the best. But I enjoyed it. The first dying light was better, but this was good.
  • Gameplay(one big exception) and graphics are very solid and it truly feels like the end of the world. The dying light zombies have always been a bit different with the day and night cycle and that continues here. Plus a way bigger map for you to explore. But there are some issues here that hold this back from being a truly great game. Story and the controls when traversing up and around things. What happens to the simple but extremely fun parkour system? Getting around, jumping and running was the best part of the first game and here it literally feels like I'm learning how to walk again. Way to complicated and there are parts of the game that I almost quit entirely due to how bad the mechanics worked. The story is a barebones story of a zombie apocalypse that you have seen before. Guy from a lab looks for his sister across a destroyed world. Boring villains, boring factions, terrible characters who you wish you had the option to kill. The reason I still enjoyed the game was because of the atmosphere, killing zombies, and once you learn how to get around it can be fun. Overall somewhat disappointing game but I did have some fun with it. Just brace yourself for frustration when first learning the controls, and don't expect TLOU story telling.
  • PS5 Review.

DL2 is a quite good sequel, it could have been much beter though..

The Graphics are really nice, sound effects are good, although the high altitude wind sounds are very scarce this time.., the music is good ocassionaly, but not as atmospheric and as great it was constantly in the first one.. Also the AI is quite good and smart..

The story is quite a mess with numerous holes.., and with long and boring dialogues.. and the zombies don't play a significant role any more.. especially at night..you just don't feel a serious threat any more..

Generally the game doesn't feel like a sequel of Dying Light 1 but like a different game with some zombies in it.

Also the map wasn't very useful..and maybe they could also add some modern weapons in the game..a few at least.., I don't understand what happened to all the guns!..the zombies ate them?..

The game is generally Good and Recommended, especially if you liked the great First one.

Updated Review 3/4/2022: One month after release and Dying Light 2 is still a technical mess. Coop is barely playable if not completely unplayable for most of the game's population. I asked me brother to buy this game because I thought we would be able to play cooperatively. When Dying Light 2 launched Techland said they would fix coop. They have not a month later. Thousands of people are still experiencing game breaking bugs. Every quest my brother does he has to restart the game because the quests never trigger correctly. This game is a technical mess that should be avoided for another few months. It's really frustrating for me to be writing this. The gameplay that is in Dying Light 2 is great and so is the open world. Unfortunately, bugs ranging from game breaking to minor are frequent, coop doesn't work a month after release, no decent end game content and very littler remorse from an otherwise great developer. It pains me to lower my score from a 7 to a 5 but Techland should have not released a technical mess and charge $70 for it.
  • I had really high hopesfor this game since I absolutely fell in love with the first one but it was not good enough. The parkour and the map was much better than the first one but it did not feel real enough. And the story was not that good. The game is good but just inferior to Dying Light 1. The prequel just hit different. Night missions gave me nightmares during my sleep and I just loved that. This one just could'nt give the trill it's predecessor gave. The incredible adrenaline rush when being chased or stealthing during the night si missing here aswell as it is easy to roam around rhe city.
  • I have been waiting this game since finished first one. If you care about bugs and glitches, this is the game you should stay away from it. The game fits the bill in terms of parkour moves, outstanding graphics and athmosphere. I also want to emphasise that soundtracks are my favuorite apocalypse thyme movie/game soundtracts. I am a big fan of zombie franchise howewer dying light 2 can be one of the most unplayable game because of technical issues. I am still waiting with the hope that next game will fix these problem, but I think I am loosing my faith to Techland. I am now pretty skeptical about purchasing next game!!!
  • Warning: Spoilers
I didnt get really into that game. I like how the zombies look and the ambience at the night. The story have some interesting quests but its not enough and i get bored really quickly. Too much farm. And the parkour stuff is great but the zombies pissed me off when you see they can run and climb like humans and yeah that make the tension escalate but i really find it annoying for some times. And when there is the zombie who just prevent his buddies that you are here its again annoying and really put me off the game. They should used the classic zombies: no brain and just walking. The game get pretty repetitive quickly and that s really make not want to know more about the story and to explore the city with so annoying things like this. Its too much farming and i dont want to spend my time like this. A great sound design and a nice ambience some times but the gameplay is not that interesting and some things that i mentionned really get me off the game pretty quickly.
  • Dying Light 1 was fun. Lots of fun actually. I had great time playing it and I loved almost everything about it. With Dying Ligh 2: Stay Human, this isn't the case. While it's an enjoyable game, it reminded me why I stopped playing such games altogether.

Although the game has seen big improvements with the latest updates, the gameplay just makes you mad all the time. The third time I got mad, I've just uninstalled it from my PC, saying goodbye once and for all. I'll never download it again, even if they improve it. And - of course - I'll probably never buy anything from the same company again.

A good example: As you play and unlock more and more skills, you have a few options such as "press space to jump even higher". It never does that. Sometimes it does that out of the blue. It says "tap E to jump higher". Never does that either.

The grappling hook is also a big mess. It just never works as you'd expect, and sometime you find yourself dying again and again over a wrong jump just because you accidentally removed it as an option when using the mouse's wheel.

A game should be fun, not making its players angrier and angrier over little things such as double clicking the space and just never working, or not being able to use the grappling hook because the mouse wheel just keeps removing it. There were lots of times that I was thinking if the developers actually played the game by their self.

Such a bad gameplay for such a good game.
  • Dying Light is one of my favorite all time games and over the years i've been heavily anticipating the sequel. Unfortunately i have to say i'm a little let down. The lack of animation when you hit a zombie, the downgrade from grappling hooks to a slow rope to swing on or a slow paraglider, and the story, which was already not very strong in the first one, somehow didn't meet expectations. The new over exaggerated parkour where you can jump across an entire street is fun not what i wanted but i can't complain.
