  • It is very full on and in your face straight away, which i don't mind. You can tell they want the different girls to have unique stories.. Is it unforgiving, yes. Is that a bad thing, no. I am interested to see where this goes.
  • This one is worth a watch. The character development is what pulls you in. Some things don't make sense and a little bit of overacting, but the characters are good and no shortage of drama here.
  • If you understand stripper culture and how men and the women who work in the industry view it, it's a good story. If you seek to be outraged and offended by the show, you will. It's entertainment. Move on if you aren't.

This has been an amazing season so far I really love how the writers dove dip into stuff that goes on in the black community; colorism, domestic violence, teen pregnancy, blm. It shows that this show isn't just about dancing and also about real world issues that have been going on.

This show is well written and will keep you on your toes!

The acting is phenomenal and they tackle real life problems. Down in this valley, you are going to go through some things but framily will always look out for you. These show deserves every single award it is nominated for or even thought of when you think about this show!
  • It's pretty well done, from the acting to the Wrestler-type crazy athleticism. I'm sure if it was a show about mobsters rather than mostly black strippers, the trolls would not be complaining. There's a reason no one cares about your opinion, guys.

  • Obviously, a lot of the very low reviews are from people who know Nothing about the Sex industry or strip clubs. And depending what State and Town they are located, the RULES are quite different for the dancers and clients.

This show is interesting in that it shows a lot of the issues that plague these gals and their different reasons for choosing this and the few who try to get an exit plan in place. And poverty, lack of education, abuse, drugs, low self-esteem play a role, But also for some women they find themselves empowered, some do use this to pay for college or as a temporary way to earn more money. Considering women are still payed WAY LESS than men, Men aren't held accountable for paying child support and helping raise their kids. And now the Ridiculous laws that are trying to control EVERY ASPECT of a woman's body and no choices about birth control and their decisions of when they want or can handle having a child. Is just shameful, cause I tell you what-- A TON of this Old White Law Makers, are sitting in a Strip Club having dinner and paying for Lap Dances, but yet wanna tell women what they can and can't do with their bodies??? Seriously- Ya'll can go to HELL!!

I've seen it all, and known a lot of these women and I can't judge them for their choices, though I will say, it usually doesn't end good for the higher percentage of them. I did promotions for Coors, Bud, Michelob and also club promotions for many kinds of clubs, dance clubs, gay clubs, including strip clubs and even occasional bar tending stints through the 90's in High class clubs to down dirty dog clubs with slam dancing and Mosh Pits, so every kind, so I knew a lot of these gals, was good friends with a few and watched a lot of them be chewed up by this life too. : ( The Pynk falls about middle tier of strip clubs, and anyone who has Really seen the workings of these clubs first hand will say it's a pretty decent portrayal of this life. And the reviewers complaining Not enough nudity, well most clubs are topless and then have a Full Nude section, or VIP rooms so the amount of nudity for the main area made sense to me. But these clubs were crazy back in the day, and I can't even imagine how much more crazy they are in 2020. :o And Most clubs didn't allow women alone to enter, as they were usually there to start fights with the dancers, so unless the bouncers knew you, or knew u in relation to a dancer or staff, or you were with a guy, or were applying for a job, they could refuse you entry or a much higher Cover charge.

Anyway, I thought the girls on this show are beautiful, and loved their shoes and outfits and LOVE Uncle Clifford and his rapport with the girls and everyone else he encounters. And the acting on this show is decent, some of the accents maybe a bit much at times, but again, depends Where you are. The only thing for me that felt a little false was the amount of the dancers that could Dance on the ceiling and do all the pole flyin. Sorry, but on average I saw maybe 1 or 2 outta 50 gals that had major gym skills on a pole that made them look like they should be on Cirque Du Soleil. On this show practically every girl has A+ pole skills, sorry, but they would be in a higher class club or in something like Cirque Du Soleil than this mid-line club. Most just dance around the pole and twerk, but still Hat's off to the Body Doubles on this show that are pulling off all these pole tricks-- It's Frickin AMAZING to watch.

Lastly, there is a story and a plot, but to people that are here to just see nudity and sex or bash women who chose this profession, then maybe you should go watch something else. For those who enjoy this show the characters are interesting, strong, sad, fragile and most are just trying to make their way thru life. Mercedes's Momma is a Full on Nutter Hypocrite though! ;o.

Can't wait for Season 2 and more music from Jucee Froot and hopefully some Lil Nas X. ;p.
  • What a bunch of artifice and overly stylized nonsense. Wholly designed to fool critics. Now will be told by a slew of sheepheads that "it's so real and authentic..." Blah blah. Trying too hard to be The Wire. It ain't close. Fraudulent on every level.
  • When you hear the song in the intro and see the images of plight and poverty... You know this is more than about pole dancing. 4 episodes in, the layers are slowly unfolding about truths (spoken or not) in the black community. The club Pynk sits in the center of the town and is the catalyst for not only the non-gender conforming owner Uncle Clifford and all his girls Gidget, Mercedes, Mississippi and the new girl Autumn. There is dancing and when there is, these girls are amazing. But the show is not about the inside of the club. It is the broken lives of these people when they leave Pynk.
  • I like that it has some good leading stories and a little mystery about it. Did it grab my attention by the neck with it's first episode, not at all, yet it's still entertaining and worth watching more of. I just hope it doesn't get flat and and the audience looses interest.

    Meh
Stiff dialogues, uninteresting characters, mediocre story. I'm disappointed. This is another series that hopelessly portrays the lives of strippers. Real world strip clubs look a lot different.
  • This show is so addicting, omg! If you don't live the entertainment lifestyle, you may not be aware of what goes on behind the scenes, but this show gives you the opportunity to do so. We are following hustlers in Chucalissa, Mississippi, as they travel the road to prosperity.

    Awesome
I love it! It's way more than meets the eye! It gives you a glimpse of life in the south and the adult entertainment world. Uncle Clifford and all the other characters are REAL! I hope it gets renewed for another season! It's giving me my Pose fix while it's on hiatus!
  • This mini series has a couple of storylines I'd like to continue following. Inquiry minds wants to know Autumn Night's story as well as Mercedes. Is this a series I'd let my kids watch, absolutely NOT, which is why it's on a cable network.

Many people can't get passed the depiction of minority women being in the strip club. I think once people get passed that and follow the storylines, they may come to like it as well. It's no different than glamorizing a drug dealing adulterous who's son kills him and his mother takes the rap for it as portrayed in STARZ #1 show Power.

I'm here to see what the season reveals.

    Warning: Spoilers
This show is awesome! Uncle Clifford is my favorite character! This is not about glamorizing strippers, actually the opposite. The show is juicier than a georgia peach and will draw you in. You got strippers and homosexuals and transvestites. What's not to love? Plus all that talent on the pole.

I don't know how this is higher rated than Blindspotting that's far better in my opinion even though different stories same culture. I'm mainly watching cause P-Valley is nominated for an Emmy for the hairstyle that's fair. Beautifully provocative, well filmed, great drama, and pretty entertaining! I didn't expect to enjoy this but it's quite enjoyable for something about strippers and unique.

I kinda can see how this is high praised it's well acted/compelling direction. Starts off pretty solid and definitely gets better I was mixed with season 1, season 2 is a lot more enjoyable! I was skeptical for the sure but damn it's an awesome series very well made!
  • Why are weak series praised by all media but the really good ones being destroyed by the media? Once again I fell for marketing and positive feedback. It's not a good show. As someone wrote here before. 90% of the show is sex and naked bodies. The rest is a plot, a rudimentary plot. It reminds me of an erotic movie in which everything revolves around sex while the plot is of secondary importance. I cannot believe that a series that objectifies the actors in such a vulgar way was produced by a well-known television.
  • Amazing show.....cant wait for season 3,4,5.....20.i loved concept and all the characters. Uncle Clifford and all the actors are amazing. The show is just amazing.
  • Some of the most popular shows of the last few years have been criminal shows. Such as Breaking Bad and Shameless. Both good shows but definitely highlighting the bottom of the barrel. What's so wrong with black people showing multiple sides as well. We have plenty of talent on TV at the moment. So it's enough room for all types of shows. P Valley isn't perfect but highly entertaining. Not everything has to be positive. If you don't like cursing, booty shaking and country fun. Then P Valley is not for you. It's not the type of show you take too seriously. Have fun with it and enjoy!

This series offends my intelligence. I can't believe that serious television can create something so completely bland and horribly vulgar at the same time.

This isn't a show I'd normally watch. I'm mixed black/white 45yo educated woman who grew up in Compton, CA with parents who had a great relationship until death did them part, attended private schools. I have one sister, a year and a half younger than me. Our lives went down very different paths. I give my background to assist in understanding my review.

This show is about the lives of people (who *happen* to be of color), in a small, impoverished town in the very Deep South. There is not a lot of choice, and privilege is not something POC experience. So you work with what you have in the hopes of finding a better life. That's the story here - the characters in this show are real, doing what they have to, to find better. And in this life, there are more challenges than usual. They care for one another, Uncle Clifford and Diamond in particular. It was great to see these characters care for, rather than exploit, these women.

And these women are dealing with issues I feel very lucky not to have faced. It's about more than strippers - it's the lives of people who happen to work in the industry, told from a very empathetic point of view. It's humanizing and very well done. A few months ago I watched an interview with the creator/director on why/what her vision was for the show. Hats off. Not to mention the athleticism of these women. I mean good grief. I have so much respect - the scences where they are performing and it's the sounds of their breathing, showing just how difficult what they're doing is..wow.

It wasn't a planned watch, but I was hooked, invested in these very real, very human characters. Too much judgement in some of these reviews here. I thought it was great, and very informative. Not for kids. If you can watch with an open mind, you might learn something.

I love this show. It is very realistic in comparison to real life events especially in adult entertainment. Of course it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, I don't think it's a fair review to bash it; especially if you have little to zero knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes in this type of environment.
