One of the biggest hits during the pandemic, and certainly the most iconically “Covid” movie, was Rob Savage’s smart horror Host, a 57 minute chiller based entirely over a Zoom call. It was scary, it was incredibly current and it put Savage and his cast and crew firmly on the horror map.
Now with his follow up, Dashcam, Savage and his team are experimenting with the genre once again. Another found footage movie, Dashcam follows right-wing internet personality Annie Hardy (played by US musician Annie Hardy) as she live streams her increasingly bizarre evening for her fans (the whole thing is told via her dashcam or her mobile). Annie, the character, is in the mould of the Final Girl (the single surviving female who has suffered all manner of ordeals and makes it out the other side of the horror movie) but unlike in the classic trope, Annie is, as...

The new James Bond film “No Time to Die” will open in Australia on Nov. 11 due to “changes specific to the Australian marketplace impacted by Covid,” according to MGM.
Most patrons would not have been able to see the Daniel Craig film in theaters, since more than 60% of the Australian marketplace is currently in a state of lockdown, which the government mandated will remain in place until 70% of the population is vaccinated. Businesses will be allowed to function normally after the country reaches an 80% vaccination rate, which is estimated to be in mid-November.
“No Time to Die” was originally set to open in Australia as well as in the U.K. on Sept. 30, a week ahead of the U.S. release date which is still set for Oct. 8.

To appreciate art, sometimes you need to watch it multiple times.
Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 12 was a poignant hour that didn't flow as well as it should have due to it coming immediately after the events of Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 11.
A Grace-centric hour was inevitable, and with the powerhouse that is Karen David at the wheel, it was always going to be worth watching. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of the dream-like scenario.
Yes, it was cool to see how characters like Dwight, Morgan, Daniel, and Strand could end up in 16 years, but watching Grace meeting her daughter, only for her to be taken away in the end, was downright cruel.
Grace arrived on Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 and has quickly emerged as a fan favorite. Honestly, I've always had this feeling the rug was going to be pulled out from under us...

Female-led stories across film and television dominated the Aacta International Awards, with Promising Young Woman, Nomadland, and The Queen’s Gambit leading the winners.
There was also some joy for Australia in the television categories, with three-time AFI Aacta Award nominee Aaron Pedersen marking his first Aacta Award win for his role as detective Jay Swan in Australian outback drama, Mystery Road.
Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman – produced by Margot Robbie and her production house, LuckyChap Entertainment – took out the Award for Best Film, beating out The Father, Minari, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Nomadland.
