Normal People writer Sally Rooney isn’t accepting options to turn her third book into a TV show. More on Rooney’s comments below.
Normal People, BBC Three and Hulu’s wildly popular adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name, felt like a major milestone in contemporary British television. The show’s approach to sex has been applauded and it also launched the careers of both Paul Mescal – due to appear in a small, independent arthouse film Gladiator II next – and Daisy Edgar-Jones, who most recently appeared in this summer’s weather-based thriller sequel, Twisters.
Despite the success of Normal People, Rooney has now said she’s not looking to option her third novel, Beautiful World, Where Are You, for a TV show.

Sally Rooney has been reflecting on her involvement with the TV adaptations of her smash hit novels, concluding “that world was not where I belonged.”
The Normal People author revealed to the New York Times that she has decided not to accept any offers so far to adapt her third novel, Beautiful World, Where Are You, into a TV show. “I felt like it was just time to take a break from that and let the book be its own thing for a while,” she said.
Rooney co-wrote the TV version of her second book, Normal People, for the BBC, Hulu and Element Pictures, which was a huge hit with audiences and critics, launching the careers of Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones. For the subsequent TV adaptation of her first novel, Conversations with Friends, which was far less well received, she was an EP but was not part of the writers’ room.

In one of many flavorful TV interview excerpts from the band’s prime in Devo, they identify themselves as aliens who have come down to Earth in UFOs with the aim of cultural infiltration. With their red plastic “energy dome” flowerpot helmets and utilitarian uniforms that look like kids’ home-made spacesuits, the group could almost pass for interplanetary messengers, preaching change as an urgent gospel for late 20th century America in rapid regression. As one member says: “We already felt like humans were insane, so for people to be enlightened, something had to happen.”
Anyone familiar with Devo solely through their 1980 monster hit “Whip It,” or even a handful of other heyday bangers like “Beautiful World,” “Working in the Coalmine,” “Girl U Want” or “Freedom of Choice,” will likely find Chris Smith’s propulsive documentary enlightening as well as vigorously entertaining.

Two months after releasing After the Magic, anonymous South Korean shoegaze artist 파란노을 (Parannoul) has unveiled a companion live album called After the Night. Listen to the project below.
Recorded at Kt&g Sangsangmadang Live Hall on January 14th, 2023, After the Night features Parannoul on keyboards and vocals, Yo and BrokenTeeth on guitars, Asian Glow on bass, 9SuK on drums, and Fin Fior on trumpet. The performance begins with the After the Magic opener “Polaris” before the band goes into older Parannoul tracks like “White Ceiling,” “Beautiful World,” and “Analog Sentimentalism.” The release even comes with a recorded video of the show, but don’t expect to identify any of the musicians — the stage lights keep each artist anonymous.
Parannoul has built a considerable catalog in the last few years, growing from uploading music to Bandcamp to releasing After the Magic through emo stalwarts Topshelf Records. 2021 LP To See the Next Part of the Dream,...

Exclusive: ‘Get Ready For It’! Man-band Take That have shot a cameo scene for the Greatest Days film that features hits from the group’s song book.
Take That members Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald revealed exclusively to Deadline that they joined Greatest Days filmmaker Coky Giedroyc (Save Me) in Athens, Greece on Tuesday to shoot a short scene for producer Danny Perkins’ Elysian Film Group production.
It was a truly glamorous moment. “We play buskers,” Barlow joked.
Owen explained that the trio is seen busking at a train station in Athens. They perform the number “Shine”, a song from their 2006 comeback album Beautiful World.
”Yeah, we did the scene once Coky negotiated our ten-minute cameo down to about three seconds,” commented Barlow, to much hilarity from his bandmates who’d gathered in a suite at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes.

Usually “American Song Contest” reveals the results of America’s votes from the previous week in the first few minutes of the following episode. However, because the hit reality TV show is airing its Season 1 finale on Monday, May 9, the normal process wouldn’t give the yet-to-be-announced finalists enough time to prepare for their last performances. That’s why, for the first time ever, NBC is changing up its results format. The second group of Semi-Finalists, who duked it out on the big stage on Monday night, will find out their fates on “E! Pop Daily” on Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m. Pt. Updated: Here is the complete list:

Michael Bolton returned to the “American Song Contest” stage during the Semi-Finals 2 episode and knocked the roof off the place with his uplifting anthem “Beautiful World.” Due to the way the reality TV show is structured, this two-time Grammy winner for “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You” and “When A Man Loves A Woman” hasn’t been seen since the first episode way back on March 21. In the video above, watch Bolton sing a reprieve of “Beautiful World” in the “American Song Contest” semi-finals, which aired May 2 on NBC.
