Unresolved Questions From "The Walking Dead" Season 7 Finale4 of 11
4. Is Eugene really a lost cause?
Eugene (Josh McDermitt) picked Team Negan because he was terrified of being stuck in another Lucille lineup. Yeah, he also feels wanted and powerful with the Saviors, but he basically just wants to stay safe, like a lot of survivors in this world. If the power shifts in Team Rick's favor, would he switch back or stay "Negan"?
Eugene is a self-described coward, but he did speak up when both Rosita (Christian Serratos) and Tara (Alanna Masterson) tried to take credit for making bullets. He didn't have to say anything, but he put his neck on the line for his friends, despite his fear. He also tried to help Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), in his own way, by having her come to Team Negan so she would stay safe.
Eugene also gave Sasha those pills she took, which suggests he might be willing to play both sides. But Negan suspects him for it, so he may have lost the big guy's trust. That said, would Negan ever kill Eugene? Mullet Man is now of even more value, since he knows how to produce bullets during wartime. Right now, Team Negan has that technology, but Eugene's heart is still with his friends.
Will Eugene stick with Negan through Season 8, change sides to Team Rick, or find enough bravery to play double-agent through All Out War? He could be a very valuable spy.
