The Foreigner
(2017)

A Great Surprise!
I was not expecting what I saw in the movie. I had avoided trailers and write-ups simply because I knew that with Chan and Brosnan I would be going. It is an intricate cat and mouse game between The IRA and the Police with Chan out for revenge against whomever killed his daughter in a bomb blast. There are a lot of other plot twists, but that would be spoilers. It's probably the best acting job of Chan's career and Brosnan also gives a powerful one as well. There wasn't a slow point in the movie.

Contract to Kill

He's just getting fatter!
Never have I seen a more disgusting scene than fat old Segal, fully clothed, orange shooting glasses, leather coat and all on top of the lovely Jemma Dallender, mauling her beautiful naked breasts with his chubby hands. I will never watch another one of his movies again. Oh, the rest of the movie was poorly written as well.

Look For The Long Version
I have always loved this movie since I first saw it in the eighties but have been stuck with the shorter (105 or 115 minute)American versions. I finally found a full, 156 minute, version last year and it really makes a difference. As is the case with most Japanese movies edited for America, from Gojira to the present, they have a tendency to take out the poignant parts and edit so that some of the original plot points are completely lost. Here you gain more scenes at the Japanese base camp with them dealing with the loss of their families back home and a really powerful scene when they contact a young American boy by short-wave that has lost his parents. There are also more scenery-chewing scenes with some of the leads, especially with Henry Silva going way over the top. If you like the movie, this version is definitely worth looking for.

What A Disappointment!
This movie deserved to tank at the box office (budget-75 million, world-wide take-26 million, as of April, 2001). The one good thing about it was the special effects, other than that, not too much. Rather than take the time coming up with a proper script, the writers just threw together every space-based cliche that's come out since the fifties. The acting was no better. Terence Stamp was the only one that appeared to try to give his character some depth, the rest just showed up and hit their marks. In my opinion, if you want to see it, wait for it to hit cable, and save yourself the rental fee!

Gog
(1954)

Interesting Choice Of Names!
Not a bad little movie, with a touch more suspense than most movies of this type. The names of the two robots that are controlled by.....,well you should see the movie for that, Gog and Magog, comes from the Bible, Rev.20:8. They are the two nations to be led by Satan in the final battle at Armageddon against the kingdom of God. Is Ivan Tors trying to tell us that the Soviet Union is SATAN? Well, it was 1954! Worth the time if you can find it.
