Taxi Brooklyn
(2014)

I REALLY wanted to like this show
I wasn't sure about this show when it first started because the whole idea of a cop being driven around by a random taxi driver seemed very "out there" for me, but I gave it a chance.

Now a few episodes in and I just can't get into this show because...

  • I don't think there is any chemistry (not in a romantic way) between the leads. Every scene feels awkward.

  • It annoys me to no end that Leo is always participating in her cases, like that would ever happen in real life, and seems to be the star of the show. Cat gets into situations and you want her to at least do something and here he comes to steal the spotlight. She's the cop so let her be one!

  • This recent episode with her re-living a traumatic experience from her past kept me waiting for some sort of flashback or explanation as to what had happened but they never showed anything. What??? How can you expect the audience to get to know her and feel for her if you don't give us anything? She also mentions in another episode that she's been shot twice. When was that? How did that happen? Which leads me to...

  • I want to know why she's always so angry. Is it her past? Is it her father's murder? What is it? Like my reason above, they're not giving us anything to go on so she's very one dimensional.

  • Dialogue. Who writes this stuff?? The scene when the Italian woman comes into the station and they have a cat fight, no pun intended. Seriously?? Not only was the writing horrible but so was the acting. Cat went from passive to aggressive in the blink of an eye. Awkward.

I could go on and on and I'm not sure why I'm still watching. I guess I keep hoping that we'll see more of Cat and less of Leo. Can't we get one episode where he goes on vacation or something and she can just rent a car? I don't know how much longer I can last and I will be very surprised if this survives for another season.

Highwaymen
(2004)

Disappointing
I saw the trailer in the theater and was really looking forward to seeing this movie. However, after seeing it I'm really disappointed.

I think the 2 main things that disappointed me about the movie: continuity and lack of a back story.

There are too many points in the story where something is there one minute and not the next. And there are even some instances where you're left saying "oh come on!" Example: when the traffic officer goes to chase after Cray and the maniac and ends up getting his car stuck in a ditch...lame.

Flashbacks of Molly's childhood should have been included to explain what had happened to her and her parents year ago. We see a scar on her back but no real explanation of what happened.

This really could have been a great movie with a better script. I think Jim and Rhona did the best they could with what they had to work with, but it just would have been that much better with a stronger script.

Prey for Rock & Roll
(2003)

Prey for the movie to be over
This is definitely one of the worst movies I've seen so far this year.

Lori Petty = bad movie. I think Lori ruined the movie for me most of all with her whiny voice and annoying mannerisms. Every scene with her made me want to turn the movie off. I think what annoys me most is that she acts the same way in every movie she's in.

As a female musician myself, I was disappointed with the music. I didn't feel that it "rocked" at all. So the bad music + Lori Petty = super bad movie.

Gina's great, but not even she could save this one.

Rollerball
(2002)

Don't be fooled by the trailer
This is quite possibly one of the lamest movies ever made.

The trailer for the movie made it somewhat appealing. But the movie itself was terrible.

The actions scenes on the track were too fast, so much so that it was hard to see what was going on. It would cut quickly from one person to the next which is what made it hard to watch. Perhaps if they had pulled back on the camera view it would have helped.

All in all, don't bother renting it. And if you paid money to see it in the theater, I feel for ya.

Angel Eyes
(2001)

A "Must Have" For Your Movie Collection
I've seen mixed reviews on this movie but I have to say it's one of the few films I've REALLY enjoyed. Action and comedy are more of my genres for movies so at first I wasn't sure if I'd like it. But this film won me over and has become on of my favorites.

I loved the scene when Sharon goes to her parents party and tries to talk to her father, but he won't even give her the time of day. After she tells her story to the man walking around with the video camera, I was hoping her father would come to his senses and go over to her but he didn't. It was a great twist because usually movies have a happy ending to a troubled situation such as that one.

Kudos to Jennifer and James for two fantastic performances!

Enough
(2002)

Don't miss this one!
Before going to see "Enough" I read a few comments from critics and movie-goers and most panned it. I, on the contrary, loved it. I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie. Yes, it did remind me a little of "Sleeping With The Enemy" and there were times where it was predictable, but the rest of the movie made up for it.

Count me in for a DVD purchase!

The Huntress
(2000)

What happened to this show?
When this show first started it was a little rough around the edges but it was interesting to watch. Then it disappeared for a few months, maybe so they could re-format it. Perhaps that's what did this show in.

The show has become boring and, well, lame. Sometimes the acting is extremely cheesy and the storylines are dumb. The show needs more action and less mom and daughter banter. It might also help if "Tiny" put another expression on his face once in a while.

Red Planet
(2000)

One word...boring
Maybe it's just me, but when I rent a sci-fi flick or action flick (seeing as it's categorized under both) I like to see at least something going on!

You see the characters sitting around. Sitting around some more and then about 5 minutes before the movie ends the action starts. Ummm, isn't that kinda late to have something FINALLY happen?

I was really disappointed because the previews looked really cool. Guess I fell for it when they use all the good parts for the trailer clips to make it SEEM like the movie is half-way entertaining.

Definitely no award-winning acting or effects in this sleeper.

28 Days
(2000)

Three thumbs up
Okay, if I had a third thumb I'd put it up for this one. I can't remember how many times I've seen this movie and I love it even more every time I watch it. Sandra is outstanding, plain and simple. In my opinion, Sandra does her best work in comedy-dramas. She has a knack for comedy, her timing is fantastic, and her dramatic side balances things out.

If you haven't seen this movie yet go to the video store right now and rent it. You won't be disappointed.

Charlie's Angels
(2000)

Who let the cheese out?
Once upon a time there were three little girls who were picked to star in a movie and they were each assigned really bad scripts, but I wasn't able to take them away from all that and they still work for me. My name is Charlie.

Problem number one - Bill Murray as Bosley. Come on. It's hard to picture Bill Murray doing anything else other than chasing a furry gopher around a golf course nevermind fighting crime.

Problem number two - BAD script. The lines were, well, lame and silly.

Problem number three - Since we have the TV show to compare it to, I think it makes the movie pale in comparison. Sure Bri and the gang weren't able to do karate kicks and Matrix-like moves back then, but at least the TV show was entertaining. The TV show wasn't a comedy and yet the movie made it seem like one. It was almost cartoony in a way.

Problem number four - Unrealistic situations. Yes, it's a movie and some unrealistic things happen but I just find it hard to believe that someone could jump off the side of a cliff, roll down a rocky hill and come out of it without a scratch.

Problem number five - I actually thought this was going to be a good movie. The good thing is that I got this as a free rental at my local Blockbuster.

If you like campy, silly, mindless movies then this one's for you. And if you have a fetish for girls running around with their shirts open, displaying the goods, then pick this one up.

Destination Vegas
(1995)

One word...terrible
The word "terrible" doesn't even begin to describe this movie. When I loaded the tape into my VCR the promos began and I honestly wasn't paying too much attention to them and left the room for a minute. When I returned I saw what I thought were more promos and said to myself, "What cheesy movie is this? I'm definitely not gonna rent that one." Turns out it wasn't a promo and was actually the beginning of the movie. So I knew I was in for it from the get-go.

The movie started off bad and ended even worse. The writer had a good idea for a plot but the acting was awful and the chase scenes were ridiculous. The bad guys crashed their car a few times and yet it still ran. And I've never known a shotgun to hold endless amounts of bullets. Not to mention the fact that if you can't hit a target that's right in front of you you've got problems.

Needless to say I didn't care for this movie at all. So if you're at the video store and you see it on the shelf, keep walking.

Last Stand
(2000)

Egads...someone get me some crackers with this cheese!
Thankfully I got this as a free rental because it's not worth paying the $3.75 rental fee to see it.

Bad acting coupled with a disappointing storyline and you've got Last Stand. When the movie started I thought for sure I was watching another lame movie called Fatal Conflict. I don't know who copied who but neither movie was "blockbuster" material.
