Jack Reacher
(2012)

Better than expected but....
Many things in this movie do work, some really well. The basic idea the movie, the soundtrack, the somewhat serious but laid-back approach works really well.

The thing's dragging it down is, well, somewhat unfair to call him a thing maybe, is off course Tom Cruise. On occasion, Tom's been quite good, on occasion, you get the same 5 or 6 facial-expressions that he has been using for most of the films in his career.

Other minor objection is the somewhat typical deal with dropping all weapons and do the final fight hand to hand. It's not like one is all that surprised when that happens. But still, in many ways a enjoyable movie that's put together with a (really) good soundtrack and overall good production.

Breaking and Entering
(2006)

Doesn't work despite the (to big) effort
Good actors, good people and production and an idea for a film that could have resulted in something great, which for me, it didn't.

Being Swedish it's even more "fun" since the references is there in many ways besides the obvious ones. Cold, suicidal and strange swedes, yeah, a lot of the stuff that's being produced in terms of movies and TV-shows really go for that. Some can be very convincing in it's minimalistic way and overall gray feel. This movie felt very "over-done" and over-acted. Not very convincing at all. Again, being Swedish, I sometimes get very frustrated with the more theater feeling that often overshadows a typical Swedish film or TV-show. And this movie feels like it's on purpose tries to achieve just that. That theater acting instead of trying to be a convincing story with real people. Instead we end up with scenes and dialog that again and again seems constructed.

For me, sorry to say, there's more life in either Housebunny or Rambo.

Crash
(2008)

didn't see that one coming....
Crash Been avoiding this one more or less simply because the movie crash was for me not that good. I saw short-cuts and then after that, saw crash. Therefor, the movie just didn't do anything for me.

Then a Sunday afternoon in a rental-store I was facing a quite poor selection of films and ended up with this. Maybe my 10 comes aided by the fact i didn't have high expectations. Still, it's easily among the best things I've seen. Slow paced and maybe sometimes spaced out, true. But in a time when movies running 90min's can feel long, seeing a TV-show of approx 11 hours and just wanting more, that says something.

Often there is good shows or movies that simply missed top mark because of some detail. Sound, acting, directing or whatever. This does not. I can't fault the anything about it. Acting is great, storyline, no matter how strange it on occasion might be, everything holds together with some magic feel to it.

Watching "just people" in the Short-Cuts way mixed up with some acting and directing in a more D.Lynch way makes this highly entertaining and unique.

No, it's not a comedy and it's no Shield and still it hit's targets on both sides. I will really see this one again.

Hancock
(2008)

Feels like it's been re-mixed and re-cut over and over again..
Really, What is the idea with this movie ? It's not that it's poorly financed or lacking a great cast. After watching this, I really can't tell what it was supposed to be.

A comedy ? A superhero movie ? A drama ? It left with the feeling that it might initially by filmed and cut in a way which the studio didn't approve of and therefor was re-cut. I might be wrong off course, it all might be intentional.

For me, nice actors, nice effects, sure, but it's not very much of a movie. A movie doesn't have to be important or deep. Some of the simple action-stuff can be really entertaining. Sorry to say, for me, this isn't.

Worst Week
(2008)

Worst week (for the director & producer maybe..)
For a comedy, I usually don't have to high requirements, one being of course that it should be funny. Well, it isn't.

One major thing with comedy is timing and chemistry. Recently, the people behind forgetting Sara Marshall, knocked up,etc have surprised me by doing rather simple story's that still feels fresh even though there isn't really anything new about them, yet it still works.

This show is quite the opposite. Some rather good ideas is completely lost due to poor timing and more or less every single joke being obvious a long time before occurring. I really though it would be fun after reading about it. For me, it really isn't. Actually one of the most disappointing show's I've seen in a long time.

The Mentalist
(2008)

Nothing new....maybe...
And,, I don't like the lead actor. And, the story doesn't feel that new.

And, still something made me enjoy it, something tells me that I will do watch coming episodes, something also tells me that, me not liking the lead is intentional, still I can live with that also.

The show somehow managed to feel fresh despite it's similarities with others. It will be interesting to see how they can keep the theme up without going to the "extreme" or the to obvious.

As always, the people around the lead is probably were the show will make or break.

The Ex List
(2008)

Not "very funny" and still enjoyable
For being a comedy, it didn't make me laugh that much. But still it was quite entertaining and the actors put in a good performance.

Regardless if the story is very new or the punchline's not that frequent, it still felt positive to watch. Sometimes it's probably down to the simple fact that the chemistry between the people on screen has to feel true. If that's the case, then it works and it actually did.

It will be interesting to see how they will let the characters evolve and what kind of situations they will put the "heroine" in. Maybe it can be seen more as a "feel good" comedy that the typical "laugh out loud" type. On that terms, it's quite a good show.

Swingtown
(2008)

An unexpected highlight....
With nothing else to watch, I gave the first episode a chance. Initially, I felt like,, "yeah,, then..?..",,,,

But, in the same way as shortcuts, people's stories and life's connects and then, then the "drama" begins. For me,, this is a really good and fun show to watch. They don't take anything to far just to make impression, instead it's a great balance that's moves between different people and different couples. There's no black/white role-casting, no heroes or villains,, just an ever changing look at life and values and what effect different actions have.

For me personally, it's a REALLY great show, it shows most of all the importance of every type of communication...

And,, this is something I really wasn't excepting after the 1st half of the initial episode.

Slipp Jimmy Fri
(2006)

well,, almost..
I've heart the rumors and read the reviews,, so, I really was expecting something special.

But, Just because you do 33% shrek, 33% Tarantino and 33% lock, stock and 2 smoking barrels doesn't mean you got a great film. Money and talent was probably there, and also the benefit and freedom of combining animation and adult target audience.

All together the movie for me is lacking anything that makes you care. With the exception of the moose, everyone else is flat. For me, it's something like a carton version of 3000miles from Graceland, a lot of everything but nothing that really matters. Smiled on occasion but all in all, it was just to obvious and lacking to deserve a recommendation.

16 Blocks
(2006)

Last episode of a late night TV-cop series
Not even on a lazy Friday night after work is this an OK movie. Sorry to say, it doesn't have much working. The feeling is that it's a filler between schedules for movies that means more to the actors and people behind the camera.

The acting is not completely terrible, even though Bruce is the cop-version of tom cruise in cocktail. Facial expressions you know is coming, jokes that's seen a mile away.

I wasn't excepting to much, just some plain action fun for a night in front of the TV. I didn't get that.

Some movies work, some doesn't. Exactly what the fault is with this one is hard to say. Only sure thing is that it makes Hollywood Homocide almost look OK.

The Milagro Beanfield War
(1988)

when everything works
It's not that often a movie comes around about nothing special and still it just works.

Some scenes, and old man in a chair talking to....nobody.., well, manages to be great entertainment. Robert Redford really did a great job. People, pictures and atmosphere, everything just feels true and interesting. Sometimes you end up watching a movie with all the things lined up, big budget, big names and a great story and still end up feeling empty. This is the opposite. Moving and funny at once. A simple story about life and expectations maybe. This is what cinema is about.

Regardless of genre, a great movie is a great movie and this is a really great movie. I waited years for it finally being available on DVD.

Firewall
(2006)

old man way down the road....
What can I say ? It was Friday and didn't except to much, just some OK action suspense from the usual suspects. But I was REALLY disappointed.

This film is bad. Cliché's Yes, logical No. I mean we all know Harrison Ford standing up to everything that usually happens to him. That can make sense when you are a fugitive with nothing to loose, that can make sense when your'e working with the CIA.

Risking your family, not once but more or less all the film while being a computer security guy ? Simple actionflix, thrillers and others can be OK even when built up with cliché's and stuff you've seen before. This film doesn't even manage that. Almost as bad as Hollywood Homicide.
