Guru in Seven
(1998)

A lively, cheeky and entertaining number
The film manages the crafty trick of making the lead character just this side of unlikeable...boy, does this guy have his faults, but he's a proper charmer too - the lead actor is terrific, and he's helped by a sometimes hilarious script, hampered by a budget that makes Blair Witch look like Titanic...some of the party scenes are so ill lit, it's actually like being at the party, which, come to think of it, is a good thing. I didn't expect much from this, but it was a knockout, and the director takes onborad some serious issues about relationships and prejudice without upsetting the mix...hilarious spoof on Indian films as well. I can't wait for the directo's next, and let's hope he uses the same cast. Wicked

Zaat
(1971)

Hook, line and stinker
I thought this might be a bit like the Roger Corman movie, Monsters - no such luck. The English video release is called 'Hydra'. There's nothing in this movie that you expect from a decent horror/sci-fi flick. The monster suit suxx. No nude women (despite a nude woman on the sleeve). Not scary. Just about the worst film ever made. Let's get it top of the worst 100! The only funny bit is when the ZZat creature goes ape and starts wrecking his scientific equipment in the lab. It looks like a guy attacking the juke-box when his selection doesn't come up. ZZzzzzat.

Werewolf
(1995)

You have got to be kidding!
No wonder 'anonymous' from Melbourne chose to remain anonymous, suggesting Werewolf is the best Werewolf movie ever made. I think what they meant to say was Werewolf was the best Werewolf movie made by Tony Zarandista. This was such a heap of crap...as bad as the Black Lagoon rip off Zzzat (if you haven't seen zat then don't bother). It's fun, on a Friday night, after a load of beer, if you want to 'rag' on the movie. Otherwise, well, it's atrocious. And incidentally, where is the nudity or sex that IMBd say is in the movie. No-one is nude, apart from the werewolf. That werewolf suit - jeeze louise, it's the worst.

Deadbeat at Dawn
(1988)

An underground classic
Give Van Bebber a decent budget and it wouldn't surprise me if he made a king-hell action flick. There isn't a boring moment in the film. The hi-energy finale is simply terrific. Van Bebber isn't a bad actor. He's a great stuntman also. Someone give him some cash. Let him loose with the camera once more.

Nightmare in Blood
(1977)

Avoid this piece of total crud
This is dull, dull as hell. I can't say there is a single thing to recommend it. Is this supposed to aimed at horror fans? Count me out. Films like this give films a bad name.

Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye
(1950)

A neglected classic
James Cagney is on top form. This is a violent movie, but terrific, and a surprisingly faithful adaptation of Horace McCoy's novel, one of the best in the crime genre.
