On the Beach
(2000)

Wow...can't trust IMDB ratings anymore
This movie I never heard of and the IMDB ratings weren't that high but i thought i would try. Boy I'm glad I did.

First off the story is great and the US Navy Captain is a man of honor, loyalty and integrity just like many of the Captains I've known. It was played by Armand Asante and no one could have done it better. Miss Ward played her role so well too, you didn't know to love her or hate her or feel for her but in the end, the character and the actress made you root for her to make good decisions and for happiness

The story shows the integrity of US Navy Sailors like many I've known. They did a good job and how sailors react to a good Captain

In the end it just shows the beauty of mankind and his self destructive nature of mankind.

This is such a taxing movie. It pulls on ya ...and what is scary is the story line is so close to us today with uncertainty of the world and the restlessness of people all over the world Have NO CLUE why this movie gets such a low rating. Maybe we can't handle the truth.

Hollow Creek
(2016)

Loose faith in people's taste
This is a damn good movie. Sure it's cheap but it has a good plot and twists .....and suspense....and it's different. The characters behave and react like real people. The acting is not super but good enough and Burt Reynolds seems like a real person that is likable for one time in his career. His part is short, too short but the most real since s deliverance . He legitimately seemed right for the tiny part. I really didn't expect such a clever story but what a find. I will watch this again. I will say it again, it's different but not in a bizarre or outrageous manor. People cut this movie too pieces and it's unjust .....

Shookum Hills
(2021)

All the components of a good story but.....
Good story and decent acting and effects and good cinematography but how all this is assembled just simply doesn't work. In the end the writing seemed rushed. The story was rushed. Too many characters making illogical and unrealistic decisions when they are supposed to be critical thinkers and knowledgeable. It's like the movie had good components but no directions or good guidance in how to assemble. A well designed car with solidly engineered parts but the wheels don't work together and therefore not functional. It was just good enough to keep me watching but not bad enough for me to pull the plug.

Roadgames
(1981)

Discovered ancient art
What an awesome gem for me. Never heard of this movie and its description sounded so unoriginal and cheap, but it was a wonderful delight of a film. Felt like the movies Dual, Mad Max and a Hitchcock classic morphed together to form a hybrid. Keach was wonderful and really added to the movie and his finest work as far as I am concerned. The feel of this movie is unique and because of that uniqueness, it's refreshing to watch. It's a masterpiece and I will watch it again, it felt like I had discovered ancient art or discovered ruins to a past civilization. How is this movie such a secret? I would put it into IMDBs top 250.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space
(1988)

So bad its good
The movie is just really bad, so bad that its nearly entertaining and good for some laughs. The clowns are creepy and as cheap as the movie is, those clowns are creepy. The movie itself is really bad and I would give it a score of 3, but since it was so bad that I laughed, I bumped it to a comedy of 6

American Horror Story
(2011)

not worth my time
I only suffered through two episodes or stories or whatever you call them. The one about My Jingles and summer camp and the one about witches and warlocks. I tried to like this, I really did. I wanted to have another series I could binge watch, but this is not it. Couldn't take anymore. I found the writing weak. It felt like I was watching a very good high school play and my kids already graduated so why do it. I am NOT seeing the high ratings of many of the viewers. As a consumer, its not worth my time and I even like the genre of these stories. I had to ax it.

Dexter
(2006)

I could not stop myself from serially watching
I found the series extremely entertaining. Sure some of the ways Dexter survived were far fetched and difficult to swallow, but overall it kept me watching. I felt strange that I rooted for Dexter's success and even wished i could be like him so not sure what that says about me LOL. The actor did a great job of being fake and showing what appeared like real struggles. I love the fake intro when he is on his boat and give ahoy out to the other captain, its soooooo..Dexter. The Batista character is awesome and a a guy you would want and enjoy as your friend and coworker. However the real brilliance of the show for me was that actress that played Deb Morgan. I looked forward to seeing her and it felt like I was a school boy and I had a crush on her. I was so intrigued every time her face showed up on my flat screen, maybe I was even giddy..I truly wish I had a girlfriend like her. I am not big on cussing and using offending words, but if she was my girl I wouldn't want her to change one bit and she made the Deb Morgan lexicon seem like true grit. Deb Morgan was was just such a fun character for me and the actress will forever by in my tops of all times.

Avengers: Endgame
(2019)

Best Avengers ever but with one major flaw
The movie was easy to follow which is not true of all Avengers. It was very entertaining and it left me wanting more. In my opinion it's the best Avengers movie ever. However the movie is not without a flaw and what I'm about to say there's not a Viewpoint that the majority will agree. The flaw is the way they portray Hulk. The character is weak and a comic relief and that is not the Hulk that I grew up with. If there is one serious character that all superheroes are not so sure of and someone afraid of, it is the Hulk. This Avengers movie should have been about Park Redemption over Thanos. It could have been a showdown between two great champions,. It could have been a glimpse to show that the old Hulk is still there even though the more docile controllable and funny Hulk remains most of the time. That is the only knock I have on this movie.

Aquaman
(2018)

Felt like I was watching the Power Rangers
This movie was enjoyable for me. However, I only gave it a seven. The movie was too busy as if they didn't have enough story so they just had to throw a lot of stuff in there. I felt like some of the characters and what their costumes were what a little ridiculous and reminded me of when my kids would watch Power Rangers.

A Quiet Place
(2018)

Well acted and different....a few flaws...but I loved it.
The movie brings in so much suspense with silence. I could hear people drinking and crunching popcorn, so different. Well acted and you really feel for the family and you wait and wonder as you see a trimester of drama about to be born. I not only recommend seeing it, I recommend seeing it more than once.

Tank 432
(2015)

I cant believe this was made by professionals - a repackaging of Dog Soldiers
I am shocked that professionals wrote, produced, directed and acted in this movie. Maybe I am assuming too much.

I've seen a lot of movies but one of the worst I have seen.

So many holes in the story and not by design. So many things that just aren't natural for a human to react that way. Im guessing the tank was numbered 432 or something but if that is explained I missed it. Not sure what country designed that tank but it appears they are much bigger and and a lot more sound proof and sound deadening and on the inside than it appears. The tank also must have an odor disposal system in place too. ..but strangely enough, its not fireproof (sarcasm)

I didn't check but I am guessing this movie was made in Europe some where. It reminds me a lot of "Dog Soldiers", but that movie is a lot better.

The somewhat of a plot is also worn out....the evil military and government! ....experimenting again. Maybe I was part of the experiment and watching this movie is part of it....now that makes more sense, Its all becoming clear to me now.

The only thing different about this movie is that we see a man crap and it shows us close up of his crap as its falling and flashes to his face of relief. Never saw that in a movie before(I'm sure its been done in some cheap fetish flick lol)....that's the biggest creative energy in the movie so if that excites you, then by all means watch away!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
(2009)

What?...this movie is underrated
I thought for the most part this was really a good film, assuming you care about background and super heroes.

Not sure why it such a low score. If a person like to hear "the rest of the story" and likes super heroes and especially like the x-men, not sure why this is not your cup of tea

Suicide Squad
(2016)

Not what I expected
This was one of the biggest entertainment wet sandwiches of recent times for me. The highlights... Harley Quinn...she played her role very well. Crazy, sexy, flirty. I would have liked a few more comments about the Joker. I wanted some of the traditional talk, traditional names she has for the Joker. But overly, I thought this portrayal was good. Joker...I think I liked him. The trailers and the talk made it sound like this was going to be a new spin on a famous recipe, but this joker was just parsley on my plate. I cant even say I want more. I never really got a taste..however, what I did see did look like a new recipe. I guess I must have got my order wrong.

Thats it...all the highlights

The film was afraid to live on the characters. Instead it tried to live off of WIll SMITH. It was Will being Will and that was our highlight and it sucked. I am surprised they didn't have Will getting Harley. If I wanted to see an unbelievable movie about Will Smith where he gets to be witty, I have a pile of them. To me this movie is about the characters and not a popular actor.

I cant remember much more than I have typed. The main reason I remember Will is because it was that bad. Like a hair in your soup, you remember that

Logan
(2017)

Liked it, entertained me. I would have done a few things different.
My basis for rating any movie is how I feel in the end. I don't listen to reviews of others, just base it off of my expectations and understanding going in, but my biggest driver is how I feel when its over. Did my time go fast and with Logan, it went really fast. I loved it and it entertained me.

All the characters are great! Dafne Keen is awesome X-23 times infinity! She does it perfectly.

Now, I would have done a few things different.

1. I would have given more information on what happened to mutants and the status of what is happening to Logan. Is he sick...is he terminal....is he ready to die....is he lonely....does he miss the old days. Something, I just needed a little more.

2. More information about the comic books. Who is writing them and are they secretly being written by a mutant that tells the future or is trying to communicate to mutants and tells the future? Are they secret code to mutants?

3. All the F bombs weren't needed. It changed the characters from past movies. I applaud them for not thinking that Logan had to have a romantic interest because that gets so predictable. It wouldn't have fit in at Logan's stage in his life, I don't think he would have much feelings in that area anymore as he is cold and tired of it all. The extra gore wasn't needed either. No point in it, just didn't fit in those scenes.

4. I felt bad for the farming family. Wow...thanks a lot Charles! They should have known better than to stay there. Not that I need the happy ending, but I would have thought Logan, Charles and the girl should have saved them.

5. The kid mutants were too scared. They should have been more barbaric in the end. If the movie wanted gore, that was the time to bring it in. The kids were just like any other kids running from the bogey man and it was like they didn't know their own powers.

6. And did I miss something, but what was up with the robot arms?

The Survivors
(1983)

Better Comedy than the RATING
I think it is an underrated movie and very funny. I thought Robin,Walter and Jerry were great I don't rate movies that are strictly comedy as high as others, but for comedies I think this is one of the better ones out there.

I happen to know a few survivalist and I thought the way this movie made fun of that was accurate. I love some of the one liners in this movie.

I just don't think Robin Williams or the rest of the crew get their just credit for this movie. Maybe people don't think anything with guns is funny, but I did

People I Know
(2002)

Did someone make Al an offer he couldn't refuse to make this movie?
Did someone make Al an offer he couldn't refuse to make this movie?

Is he broke? Is it hard to get acting jobs when you hit 60?

This is terrible and blows my mind why an actor such as Al would be in such a movie. It was awful and all the has beens or wannabees in this movie are clinging to Al hoping that he can win one for them.....well he couldn't.

How could someone make this movie and sit back and say, "I am proud of that work."

I gave it a 3.

JFK
(1991)

Please don't base your opinion of history on this movie
This movie is entertaining but please don't use it for anything else. Stone has admitted to putting things in to spice it up a little. The movie business has to have a little "BAM" in the sauce and real life was just too bland.

As science improves, the old and amplified theories from the past start to dry up. Well this movie sure hydrates them farely well. I am sure some who fantasize about such things or want some elaborate story to a tragedy will use this movie as their battle cry, "conspiracy, conspiracy I tell you!".

This movie is about as factual as the Legend of Boggy Creek or maybe the incredible HULK. Its not a bad movie to watch but its no history lesson.

28 Days Later...
(2002)

Much more than I thought.....and more than others told me
This has been the movie that I keep thinking about weeks after I have seen it. I found it a very good movie and a clever style for movies of this genre. Much more than gore and guts. The first few minutes of the movie lead you to believe its going to be only gore and guts, but just hold on and you will find that its so much more.

I am not sure why several have compared this movie ( or at least mentioned The Ring) to The Ring. In my opinion these movies are not in the same class. 28 days is much better, bettter story, more frightening, more believable, more original than The Ring. This is a white knuckle movie.

I am not saying The Ring is not good but I feel 28 days later is that special. I like how the movie was filmed and the music. It has some twists in there as someone has some creative juices flowing. If you like horror/thriller then this is a classic. I know they puke some blood in the flick but too many recent movies of this genre have me ready to puke blood out of my own eyes holes becasue they are so bad. Its a great movie and is very interesting in today's social and political environment.

Reversal
(2001)

zeroes in on the struggles of life and ignores the good stuff
A decent movie that makes you think about athletics in general from a parent's perspective. This could be about parents wanting anything that they value for their child.

I felt the Dad was a good dad that was making the best with the hand delt him. He did not push his son without caring for him or without some reason. Some make the Dad look awful and that is not the truth. None of them had a great home life. He was not even the stereotypical father that was living through his son's victories becasue he was state champ himself. He just wanted his son to have a college education, that he did not have. He wanted more for his son than a mining job like him.

The wrestling was very good but you don't see that much sports action. I gave this movie a 7. I only gave it a seven for the fact that some of the choices were not how I think a human in that situation would choose. I also feel there were some situations in the movie not explained or were not real. The wrestling was real but some of the situations did not come off to me as real. The movie seemed to have an identiy crisis, it did not know what it wanted to be.

Halloween: Resurrection
(2002)

Cheapens the original
I thought it was bad. Predictable Cheap Stupid It takes away from the original. The original to me had a good story line and plot, mystery, and was made more real. The old one took you to a region in your mind that made you wonder if there are monsters out there in the real world like Mike. All this in a horror movie is rare.

This one is nothing like that and scored a 4 out of 10.

This is more like Jason Vorhees changed masks.

Session 9
(2001)

I am in need of therapy from the low scores on here
I am really shocked at the low scores. I found this movie very interesting and scored it a rare 9 for Session 9. I found the movie to be well thought out and different. It did not try to win you over by the blood and guts methods, the steamy sex scene methods, or the heartthrob super hero that wins against all odds tactic.

The method that reached me was a build up of an intriguing story and suspense encapsulated in the setting of an old mental hospital. Just the thought of an old, abandoned, secluded mental hospital would give people the heeby-jeebies. As I reclined back in the therapeutic foam of my own couch session, confined within padded walls of my own living room cell, I repeatedly put myself in the steel toe boots of the asbestos workers and thought, "what if these walls could talk." The history of the old psychological concentration camp would have enslaved my every thought. My eyes would have investigated every architectural curve as if Freud had designed it himself.I would have read those old case files and think most of us out there would have too. I say watch it especially if you like movies such as......well I am not going to tell you, but I will give you a hint. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"

Mulholland Dr.
(2001)

Started as 9 ended as a 7
I gave it an overall 7 score. The movie started out a 9 and fell to a 7. The first 2/3 of the movie were addicting and I loved it. I have only seen this movie once and it deserves another look. Maybe I picked it apart too much or not enough.

This is the bottom line. A great movie that deals with fantasy or fiction has to take that piece of clay and mold the unreal real, the unbelievable believable, the fantasy desirable, the nightmare undesirable and this movie failed in this area. It took the unbelievable and left way too many holes in the story. It carried me away in the beginning but crashed me in the end.

Planet of the Apes
(2001)

Would the real planet of apes please stand up? (it aint this one)
Not good! Rent or buy the original! Watch this only if someone has a gun to your head and then....maybe.

It is like claiming an Elvis actor is as good as the real King.

Ghosts of Mars
(2001)

I can not say a good word about it other than......
Terrible. It makes me wonder how John Carpenter ever made a good movie. How could you look at this and say, "Hey, thats good work." Stupid look and stupid looking characters and stupid plot and stupid ending.

The leading actress is pretty.......Ok thats the one good thing

A weak 4

Traffic
(2000)

oh what a tangled web we weave
I gave it a weak 8. It is one of the better drug stories of showing how deep the dirt flows and how it is a tough problem to conquer. All the things that is wrong with capitalism is brought to life with this movie. It may be the best system but certainly not perfect.

The movie is good but left me feeling a little depressed and hopeless. Most of it was well done except for the assassination.
