Wish I Could Go Back in Time and Forget I Saw This
Any time a writer tries to tackle time travel it's a sticky situation.. and this movie actually does a pretty good job of handling time/dimensional travel... so it's with great disappointment that the entire rest of the storyline and execution are so bad. I mean, really bad. An endless string of non-sequitur events, bad CGI "aliens", and an unexplainable ending. They could have focused SO much more on the development of the time machine, the alien influence, the aftermath, instead of things like school bullies, love interests, and dinner outings.

Ah well, better luck next time

Altered Carbon
(2018)

I Skipped To The End And Didn't Miss Anything
I watched the first 4 episodes and was so underwhelmed with the story and acting that I just skipped to the last episode of Season 2 in order to get it off my Netflix "continue watching" list and I was amazed that it didn't inspire me to go back and watch any prior episode. I was able to piece together the entire show. Even the surprise ending wasn't much of a surprise and it would have been better if they hadn't tried for the "happy ending" cliche'

So very disappointing

Dorohedoro
(2020)

Now THIS Is What I'm Talkin About.. Absolutely Wonderful!
It's been a very long time since I got to enjoy something as bizarre as Dorohedoro... the animation, humor, and absolute insanity brings me back to shows like FLCL and other early 2000s anime. If you need to be spoonfed your storylines this anime isn't for you; you'll be lost most of the time as to what's going on. But if you just sit back and enjoy the LSD trip, you'll get to enjoy the mind of one seriously messed up artist LOL

Beastars
(2019)

Extremely Odd, Interesting, Entertaining, and Bizarre
This was an interesting mashup of Zootopia and Fruits Basket into a single anime... all of the tension and taboo of interspecies relationships in Zootopia with all the teenage angst and drama in Fruits Basket. If you've seen both shows, you'll be able to guess how this series is going to end.

At times Beastars gets a bit tedious, others times the flow is fast and smooth.. it's easy to binge watch the entire Season 1 since it flows quite naturally. Definitely a refreshing story amid all the cookie cutter anime scripts out there today. I'm actually looking forward to season 2

The Lighthouse

Dafuq Did I Just Watch
It took real balls to make this movie in black & white.. in a non-widescreen boxy 1:1 ratio format... with only 2 actors in the entire movie (no, non-speaking mermaids don't count).. but balls is all this movie has, because it's otherwise impotent. It's impossible to tell if the whole thing is real or a delusion of one of the characters. There is no character development because we don't know whether anything is real. There is no resolution because, again, there's no indication of whether what is happening is real.

The only thing I know for sure about this movie is that no one knows whether the hype surrounding it is real or not. I think critics wanted to appear "intelligent" and act like they know what the movie was about.. I was sure as hell completely lost the entire time.

Extraterrestrial
(2014)

Typical Bad Alien Movie
I really wanted to enjoy this movie but the level of ridiculousness was over the top and the movie just couldn't gain its footing. From characters not breaking windows to get into places when running for their lives, to believing that boarding up windows will stop aliens from outer space, to using flashlights in the dark when trying to hide from aliens. I really could make a nearly endless list for this movie; it was almost impressive. This movie left me more frustrated than scared... sigh...

Akira
(1988)

Hard-core violence with deep moralistic lessons.. classic Japanese story
Beautiful example of Japanimation; Akira is rightly touted by anime fans as one of the greatest animes of all time. Granted it is very graphic and intense, but this movie wasn't designed for the faint of heart. Any anime fan will love this movie, and I've known many to have been first turned onto Japanimation through Akira. I give this movie a resounding vote of 10!

Tron
(1982)

Fantastic, a cinematic masterpiece
This movie is one man's creative and adaptive biblical vision of Jesus, and symbolizes the greatness that Disney so rarely exhibits in it's cinematic productions: A world of computers is controlled from a mythical super-realm by a being known simply as "the user" which no one has ever seen. But this world has now fallen under the tyrannical control of the "Master Control Program", who seeks nothing except complete domination. A whimsical hacker (Jeff Bridges)is transformed into electrical energy and brought into this pseudo-reality against his will. Trapped within the confines of this tech-world, he finds his video game fantasies turned reality, and his life in peril. Once the battle has begun, he becomes the realm's greatest crusader for freedom by realizing that as a "user" he holds powers unimaginable. By his sacrifice the entire world saved.
