The Best of Enemies
(2019)

A must watch movie
Everyone should watch this movie. It's what the world needs right now and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this one evening.

I initially was hooked in by Sam Rockwell, I think he's a wonderful actor but now I'm also a huge admirer of Taraji Henson. Fantastic performance.

If a few good people have the courage to change their ideologies and become educated, society will be a better place.

Loved the footage of the real CP and Ms. Atwater at the end. Even though they problem bickered for 30 years like an old married couple you could tell there was true admiration, respect and love between them.

Please watch this movie.

Jurassic World Dominion
(2022)

Pretty dull
Jurassic Park it's a massive park! What could possibly go wrong!...well this did actually.!

Really very dull concept to end it all with locusts (were they searching for some kind of biblical plot there) After investing in years of this franchise was just a let down.

I found myself looking at my phone quite a lot during this movie which is never a good sign.

Didn't really get the cloned girl plot or why they even made a woke style nature reserve for the dinosaurs, basically another Jurassic world but a free range one where you can order chai latte and be lectured on renewable energy.

What struck me most though was the pretty bang average CGI and even worse animatronics.

Surely that's the one thing they can get spot on these days.

Even the big finale dinosaur fight was rubbish. Rexy is like the Rocky Marciano of the dinosaur world but needed help, not from Blue this time but a hybrid Turkey Wolverine looking thing!

Wait to watch this when it's on free at Christmas!

Detectorists
(2014)

Perfection
The most perfect series ever written. Casting, acting, story, subtle comedy is all 10/10.

If someone would have told me to watch a series about metal detecting I'd have laughed in their face but after watching the series for the 5th time recently I think that person would be well entitled to laugh in my face.

Frankly I just want to whack on some camouflage, grab my 'Rada' (in joke) and get out in a field with Lance and Andy, obviously followed by a pint in the Two Brewers.

I cannot speak highly of this perfectly written heart warming comedy and I'm delighted to hear that a new one off episode is due in late 2022.

Big shout out also to the soundtrack.

The Sandman
(2022)

Not bad.
I'm enjoying this but why do all tv shows and movies these days have to make characters that were make in the comic books now women? I just don't get it.

I have nothing against great women characters and actors I just wondered why they feel the need to change them.

Anyway so Good performances, sets and visuals look great and I generally like the story....although it does seem from the reviews on here it goes Pete Tong after episode 5.

The Offer
(2022)

A show you can't refuse
Wow! What can I say. Absolutely amazing 10 part series on the making of possibly the greatest movie ever made.

Acting was slick and engaging. A huge shout out to the casting on this series as there were some really stand out performances, Matthew Goode, Juno Temple get a special mention as does Miles Teller whom I don't know much about apart from Whiplash.

The guy you played Pacino absolutely nailed his voice!

I'm a huge Godfather fan anyway but there were some great insights in to the making of the film.

If you like the godfather please watch this series. Outstanding!

Oh and I cannot leave this without saying what an underrated actor Giovanni Ribisi is! Legend!

Elvis
(2022)

Baz took care of business!
I don't think I'll ever give a movie 10/10 but I would give this 9.5 if I could. I think I was expecting a similar style to Walk the Line but was massively and pleasantly surprised it wasn't. This film was super fast paced, high gloss with some major iconic musical moments from Elvis career and nice that it was told from Colonel Parkers eyes. Ok Tom Hanks accent was a bit weird granted but you can get past that.

Austin Butler was amazing as Elvis. Loved everything about this movie and will do something that I rarely do and go watch it again.

Big Boys
(2022)

Fantastic Little Series
I stumbled upon this after watching Derry Girls and wasn't disappointed, it's such an intelligent heart warming series that has comedy yet thought provoking moments.

What I especially liked is that normally tv shows would portray Danny's character as a complete idiot who is massively homophobic and has no depth so I was pleasantly surprised it was the opposite and highlighted his own problems with depression and family whilst the two main characters supported each other.

Casting was brilliant and you really felt the genuine friendship between Jack and Danny.

Really recommend this to forward thinking viewers.

Scream
(2022)

Was this a superhero movie?
Do these women have superhero powers and I missed that part of the movie because at the end 2 have deep stab wounds to the gut and one has a gunshot wound!!! Yes a GUN SHOT WOUND!!! ....and yet they sat around holding their stomachs like they've just had a bout of IBS! Not to mention the dude who has been used as a pin cushion on the lawn is now sat up in the back of the ambulance giving Fonzie thumbs up to people!! WTF!!

Plus why do these writers always give the heroes an out! Killers have the 3 of them injured in the kitchen and then go on a rant about movies blah blah blah. Just shoot them dead there and then.

Ridiculous. Please don't make anymore.

Stranger Things
(2016)

Season 4 is the best!
Season 4 volume 1 is fantastic. I love how the duffer brothers have slowly increased the horror and gore as the characters got older which enabled a more sinister take on the upside down world.

These kids are now in high school so the natural progression of the show would to make it around a 15 certificate which then allows it to move along with how the cast have grown up. Great work.

You can tell the duffer brothers were heavily influenced on classic 80s horrors when they were young, from the score, the settings and the main protagonist!

The Incredible Hulk
(2008)

Better than the Ruffalo Banner/Hulk
This will be a massive unpopular opinion but here goes...

There are so really good scenes in this movie and you really get the sense that Banner doesn't want to be the hulk (which he doesn't) the stuff where he's living on the streets, feeling lonely gives it more character depth like the bill bixby tv series which is done well. The man is in turmoil and you feel that unlike the Disney Ruffalo version which has no depth at all.

The CGI hasn't held up on the hulk but at least it's the closet to the savage hulk we have seen. This hulk would have ripped Thanos arm off and beat him with it. The hulk we all wanted to see in Endgame.

Ultimately it's not great in places but you got the overall feeling of a man suffering and a hulk that was actually enraged rather than mildly ticked off.

Chivalry
(2022)

This is strangely good
I'm a big Partridge fan (who isn't) and was half expecting this to be a full on Partridge style comedy but was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't.

It's not a laugh out loud comedy, more of a stylish easy watching life drama that reminds me of 'Episodes' with Matt Le Blanc.

Like both leads and supporting cast and hope there will be a series 2 to conclude what happens to the main characters.

The Curse
(2022)

People just do....comedy caper
This reunites 3 of the cast from People just do nothing which means it should be good, along with Tom Davies who I find quite funny.

I'm 2 episodes in and whilst not amazing it's ok.

I'd place it in the category of 'easy to watch when you can't find anything else on' and sometimes this isn't a bad thing as it speeds along quite nicely and has given me one or two laughs.

Let's see what happens in the next 4 episodes.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife
(2021)

I ain't afraid of no....good reboot!
I'm 45 years old and can remember sat as an 8 year old in a smokey cinema (yes people could light up in those days 😳) watching the original and loving every minute of it. Well I can happily say I loved every minute of ghostbusters afterlife too.

Was it nostalgia? Possibly? Was it because it was heavily influenced by Stranger Things? Maybe! Or was it because the casting was great? I think so! Or was it all three? Most definitely!!

This was such a good popcorn movie with some lovely Easter eggs and obvious nods to the original before the ending. No spoilers here! However what made it for me was McKenna Grace. Loved her character, a strong interesting female lead that had some depth that you routed for.

Kudos to the writers for not taking the easy option of rehashing the original with 'like for like' females to replace the original cast. (We all know what I'm talking about!)

I do hope there's a sequel and we see more of Phoebe & Co.

I'm now off to find my Rubik's cube and soda stream!

Mijn beste vriendin Anne Frank
(2021)

An Interesting Portrayal
An interesting portrayal of Anne Franks best friend Hannah Goslar and their relationship as teenage girls growing up in Nazi occupied Amsterdam.

I thought they portrayed Anne is a slightly annoying brat who at one point emotionally tormented Hannah by ignoring her.

However I thought the idea of showing Hannah's story was a powerful and fresh point of view to what million of Jews horribly endured during World War Two.

Not a classic but still a very sad story.

Year of the Rabbit
(2019)

Loved this!
I'm a huge Matt Berry fan anyway but I loved this show, very funny with great characters and all set up for a second season until channel 4 pulled the plug on it. I think this could be one of those series that people didn't really know existed but wouldn't be disappointed once they stumbled across it.

I laughed so much watching this off beat comedy and what they did with the John Merrick (Elephant Man) character was hilarious.

I'll just have to watch it again.

Gomorrah
(2014)

Masterpiece
For me Sopranos is the best TV series ever but Gomorra runs it so so close, admittedly they are different shows, Sopranos is glossy whereas Gomorra is dark, gritty, brutal and I imagine scarily realistic.

Story is great, acting is great, characters have depth and it takes you on a brutal journey of organised crime in Naples. Just an absolute must see for any crime drama fans.

I've just finished season 5 and gutted that there will be 'no mora of Gomorra' I will leave it a couple of months and then start it all over again.

Creed
(2015)

I rarely give 10s out...
But I think this film deserves it for perfectly carrying on and taking the Rocky franchise in to a new era.

The story and the casting was perfect you could feel the connection between the actors and I think Stallone is doing some of his best work as an actor later on in life. I also think that Michael B Jordan was the perfect actor to play Apollo's son, the right amount of attitude yet humility with it.

I also loved that Tessa Thompson's character had some depth to it and wasn't just put in as a love interest, by the end of it I genuinely started caring for these new characters.

As for the fight scenes I felt like I'd taken every punch too!

Cannot wait for Creed 2! 👍🏻

Creed II
(2018)

Quality sequel
A solid sequel and at the time as a huge Rocky fan I was skeptic about bringing Drago in to the Creed franchise but after watching this I thought the writers and director did an excellent job of not just dealing with Donnies story but Viktors also.

My only disappointment was a scene that was deleted from the film showing Donnie and Viktor in the locker room after the fight where Donnie tells Viktor that "you're not defined but only one loss".

Personally I would have kept this in and it would have given the writers some scope to keep Viktors story going in Creed 3. (Deleted scene is on you tube)

Other than that I loved every minute of this movie.

What If...?
(2021)

What If....Disney hadn't bought Marvel
Just finished episode 8 and I can't believe I've stuck with this. I genuinely thought the episodes would get better but they've just gotten worse. I can't see the point in this series and it worries me for any future Marvel films.

Most of the episodes could be answered with "who cares"!....I don't care if Thor was an only child or T'challa became Star Lord. Just not interesting.

Oh and once again hardly any Hulk. God Marvel hate Hulk don't they!

Disney buying Marvel was the worst thing to happen.

Wonder Woman 1984
(2020)

Had to give this 1 as zero wasn't available
Absolutely shocking movie. I don't know where to start...bad script, bad storyline, surprisingly bad CGI and even bad acting which disappointed me as I normally like Pascal and Wiig.

I thought the idea of superhero movies was to cheer for the good guy/girl, I just found WW rude and arrogant to everyone throughout.

Please don't make another.

Avengers: Endgame
(2019)

It was good...but not THAT good!
Don't get me wrong I love the marvel films and was excited to see this but I have to say I left a bit disappointed. Most probably because I'm a hulk fan and I personally think they ruined his character arc, didn't we all want to see a crazy angry Hulk rematch with Thanos? Instead we got a dabbing Shrek with glasses! The whole MCU movies were really all about Cap and TS, and their stories were great I just think the writers got to the point where they didn't know where to go with the rest of the team, bit of a shame really.

I quite like Captain Marvel but felt her character should have been introduced in phase 4 as she wasn't in the movie much. Saying all that the actual film was super slick, visually amazing and the hours flew by. Be very interesting to see where MCU go from here.

Ps. A depressed Demi God! Come on now!

Bumblebee
(2018)

Thank god Bay wasn't involved
For years Michael Bay has destroyed the Transformers franchise and finally we got a film that was watchable and you could actually tell the difference between the robots when they were fighting. Ok it wasn't outstanding as a movie but a lot more enjoyable than the previous 5 ( I think, because I gave up after 3 or 4!, Seriously Optimus on Grimlocks back)

Hope for more of the prequels!
