On the Night of the Fire
(1939)

Very watchable
A film well worth watching similar in some ways to Odd Man Out about a man on the run and the working class life of a British city but without Carol Reed's cinematic flair. The acting was impressive, especially by Sir Ralph ,Diana Wynyard and Henry Oscar. And by the way the film was made for 1939 audiences not those in 2020.

My Hero
(2000)

Just relax and enjoy it
A silly but rather sweet comedy, nicely written and performed. Conedy divides views, but I am highly enjoying it. If you don't, fair enough but that is up to you. Switch over or off.

Love Me Tonight
(1932)

Just brillant
Please tell that person who said that his cat could write better songs that they were written by one of the greatest ever songwriting teams of Rodgers and Hart and "isn't it Romantic" is one of the loveliest songs. Keep hold of that genius cat he must be worth billions

Girdle of Gold
(1952)

Delightful
Just seen this film on Talking Pictures it was very silly but highly enjoyable which was I am sure the original idea when made. Harmless fun

Glad Tidings!
(1953)

Highly watchable
Not that great but still a pleasant 90 minutes if you fancy an agreeable film. The other critics have been rather unfair. The film is very much of its kind and must be watched with that viewpoint. I have seen a lot worse.

Forces' Sweetheart
(1953)

Could do better
The downside in this movie is the weak comedy material which wastes the talents of Seacombe and Bentine, but the film was still mildly entertaining with not-too-bad songs, however it was badly let down by a poor boxing sequence at the finale. I knew little about the star Hy Hazel. She was regarded as Britain's answer to Betty Grable but had a tragic death at the age of just 50. She was starring in Fiddler on the Roof but choked to death in 1970 while eating a steak in a restaurant.

No Lady
(1931)

Better than I expected
Just watched No Lady on Talking Pictures and I must confess that I enjoyed it. True the story is silly but the film was far better than I expected. There was little evidence that it was made just four years into the talkies and Lupino Lane was a superb acrobatic comedian. This production did him justice.

The King and the Chorus Girl
(1937)

A large amount of joy
Overlong but fun to watch. Joan Blondell has great skill and beauty while Edward Everitt Horton's flutters and double takes always lift a film

The Butler's Dilemma
(1943)

Waste of talent
In reply to two reviews, can I say that Richard Hearne, had a great deal of comic talent, but in this, for him, rather expensive production with a good song, was badly let down by an over complicated unfunny script which badly wasted his talents and those of Francis Sullivan and the rest of the cast

John and Julie
(1955)

Simply marvellous
I saw this film for a second time on Talking Pictures and I was enthralled by it. A lovely nostalgic piece which had me close to tears. It brought back memories of a gentler more innocent time, beautifully acted and with two fabulous performances by the youngsters. Lesley Dudley was so adorable I could give her a big cuddle. Superbly made and a pure joy to watch. How I wish I lived in the 1950s.

Something in the City
(1950)

Quietly amusing
Easily the best of the three Richard Hearne films I have seen recently. Hearne is not so burdened by the Mr Pasty character and turns in some enjoyable slapstick but thankfully without the pathos. A likeable gentle story and good support from Garry Marsh

The Headless Ghost
(1959)

Harmless fun
A very silly but pleasant way to spend an hour, not really enough humour or scary moments but fun nevertheless. As one reviwer commented it reminded me so much of an episode from Scoobie do

Tornado
(1943)

Not bad
A reasonable effort all round on a small budget, but nothing really to do with tornados. A bit too much plot for the length of the film, however, Chester Morris, now starring in B movies, is quite good in the lead role.

Noose for a Lady
(1953)

A neat thriller
A really neat little thriller, the story plays fair and the killer comes as a real surprise. The cast work well together and Dennis Price is a reliable lead as the solver of the crime. Well worth 90 minutes of your time.

Hand in Hand
(1961)

A pure delight
I was so pleased to read the comments from the actress who played Rachel and so glad that she is hopefully well and has had a generally happy life. I saw this film today on Talking Pictures and it moved me so much. I can't remember a film that has given me so much pleasure. The youngsters were so natural and the film was brimming with good intentions. Sure John Gregson and the other actors took a back seat to the youngsters but being Jewish myself I appreciated this gem of a movie even more. I just wish it could be shown at peak times on mainstream TV

Tons of Trouble
(1956)

A fun hour
Just seen this film on the splendid Talking Pictures. What a gentle simple comedy from a much calmer age. Modern children might not get it but Richard Hearne was a superb knockabout comedian and I enjoyed it immensely.
