Sherlock
(2010)

All of the awards are justified!
In watching this series, my only regret is that I didn't watch it sooner. The story lines, the plot twists, and the stellar acting performances kept me gripped from start to finish. We don't get feature length tv series here in the USA but we should. The extra time allows for the details to slowly unfold rather than jumping around. Sherlock Holmes is such a classic but the writers have successfully added dialog and scenes to keep the viewer engrossed and so entertained. If you love murder mysteries (which we do in this house) you won't find a better series to devote your time to. Just watch it. You'll be glad you did!

Mystery Island
(2023)

I fell asleep twice then gave up.
Simply put, this movie is nowhere near the caliber of murder mystery we've come to enjoy and expect from Hallmark. I'm fact, it's not a murder mystery at all. The writing is amateurish with too many plot holes to count. Even the acting was unconvincing - the female lead seemed as bored as I was. I truly did fall asleep twice and my husband watched it to the end to see whodunit. To say the conclusion was anti-climactic is an understatement.

One bright spot would be that the idea behind the movie, though not original, could be reworked and in some cases, recast to continue the series. However, this one should be pulled from viewing.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
(2011)

One of my top 10 favorite movies of all time!
A quirky title and an all-star cast and you already know you're in for something special. I am from the USA and ensemble movies almost always flop. So this was an unexpected treat mini years ago on an airplane no less. This film deserves more than 10 stars and it's truly one of my favorites of all time.

No Time to Die
(2021)

Terrible, shockingly terrible.
The shootouts and fighting ruined any shot at understanding the plot line/ It was loud and amateurish at best.

Rather than entertain me, it gave me a thumping headache. It seems the days of the Bond movies are a thing of the past.

Almost Paradise
(2020)

Skeptical but wrong!
I became a Christian Kane fan from watching "Leverage". I thought this might be more of the same but I'm happy to say I was wrong.

While Kane's character may take a nod from Elliot Spencer, that's where the similarities stop.

This show should definitely get a second season. The story line and character development have left me wanting more!

Bridgerton
(2020)

If you're not a 16 year old girl, avoid this one.
It's not just bad, it's shockingly bad. I really tried to give it a chance by watching 5 cringeworthy episodes but found myself fast-forwarding through more than I watched then finally gave up.

Love at Sea
(2018)

Should have more than 2 stars
I don't understand the negative reviews for this movie. It's one of those movies I keep on my dvr and watch to enjoy the summertime. I relate to it because I met my husband when we both worked on cruise ships!

It has a cute story line with good acting and an obvious connection by the two leads (who are married in real life), Alexa Penavaga and Carlos Penevega.

Murder, She Wrote: Funeral at Fifty-Mile
(1985)
Episode 21, Season 1

This episode should have been 2 parts.
I have seen almost every episode of Murder She Wrote at least twice; once in real time as they were released and again now during a fun binge!

In my opinion, this is the most riveting, almost troubling episode and definitely deserves 10 stars. From the writers to the actors and production, they pulled out all the stops for this first season finale. No wonder it got renewed!

The Unforgiven
(1960)

A Timely Picture Before Its Time.
While many of the old classics are cringe worthy at least in parts, this is not one of them! This 60+ year old film is well written, beautifully acted and gives the viewer all the feels. Don't skip this one. Check it out!

Death in Paradise
(2011)

LOVE this series!
The story lines are compelling with just enough comedy, twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end.

I can't understand why so many reviewers hate on the various DI's except for the original. I have loved them all and am hopeful I will feel the same about "Neville".

I do wish there was not so much cast turnover. Pay these actors more money or something! The writers do a brilliant job with character development but time and again, as soon as I get invested, the character leaves.

Still, I'm a dedicated fan. Death in Paradise is by far my favorite whodunnit.

Keep those episodes coming!

Death in Paradise: Pilot of the Airwaves
(2021)
Episode 1, Season 10

Welcome back!
I was so excited to see my favorite show was finally back with new episodes. 10 years since the pilot and it's still going strong.

I do hope the new DI becomes more lovable just like the others did.

As usual, the story line is brilliant and Guadalupe looks as inviting as ever!

It's so refreshing to find a "whodunnit" that's so easy to watch. This shows manages to entertain every episode without the need for blood and gore.

I just can't recommend it enough!!

Betting on the Bride
(2017)

A direct copy of Hallmark's 2012 "A Bride for Christmas".
I've never seen such blatant plagiarism in a movie before. The writer/director even went so far as to steal the exact words!!! THIS MOVIE SHOULD BE REMOVED!

Mystery 101: Killer Timing
(2021)
Episode 6, Season 1

A very well written and performed whodunnit.
I had very high expectations for this installment of the Mystery 101 series and not only did it not disappoint but it far exceeded my expectations. Hallmark Movies and Mysteries has learned how to construct a movie with multiple twists and turns while not revealing who the murderer is.

It just goes to show that a movie that is well written and well acted doesn't need sex and violence to be powerful.

The chemistry between Kristoffer Poloha and Jill Wagner makes the story come alive! I just love them together.

Erin Cahill was a welcome addition to the cast. It's empowering to see two women who have ties to the same man, support each other instead of tearing each other apart.

I look forward to the next Mystery 101!!!

Chuck
(2007)

Great to binge watch during the pandemic!
My hubby and I binge watched the entire series in just a few weeks! I was hooked from the 1st episode and never got bored! Stick with it! It's a face paced show and if you're like me, you'll think 91 episodes is not enough/

Rosemary & Thyme: The Gooseberry Bush
(2006)
Episode 6, Season 3

My hubby & I we're left scratching our heads?!
We're the ridiculous plot holes a result of bad writing, bad editing or both? Terrible and embarrassing for all involved.

Psych
(2006)

As a 50 yr old woman, I didn't think I would like this...
...I was SO WRONG. Granted, I did have to watch a few episodes to get to know the characters. I'm so glad I did! The show is smart, addictive and hilarious. The story of each episode wraps up nicely within the hour and the back story of the recurring characters is seamless throughout the series. Especially being on lockdown during the pandemic, Psych offers gripping story lines, great one liners with homage being paid to the 80s. Loose yourself and binge watch this fantastic show!

Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries
(2019)

It's a 10!
I love this series almost as much as the original Miss Fisher's series. During this pandemic and in the midst of self quaratine, watching murder mysteries with a strong female lead is a great escape. I only wish there were more episodes!

Riddled with Deceit: A Martha's Vineyard Mystery
(2020)

Everybody loves a great who dunnit!
Jesse Metcalfe is back in this thrilling Martha's Vineyard movie mystery series. This second installation revolves around a priceless brooch being stolen. Just when you think you have it figured out, the person you pegged for doing it ends up dead! The twists and turns in this movie make it very exciting! Terrific acting, great storyline and the cinematography is outstanding! Don't mess this suspenseful, fun movie!

The Laundromat
(2019)

A complete disappointment
When I film stars Meryl Streep, one might have certain expectations when viewing it. While her acting in the movie is average, The storyline is both silly and lacking any cohesion. With 15 minutes left in the film, I was still waiting for it to appropriately start. The delivery of this phone is so bad I cannot see any way it could be improved.

The Durrells
(2016)

Smart, Funny The Durrells in Corfu really deliver!
Not being from the UK, I was not familiar with the story or the actors so I went into this series completely blind. Within a couple of episodes, I was hooked!

The writing as well as the acting brings this story to life nearly 100 years after it actually happened. I find myself wanting to know these people and curious as to how their lives turned out. I wish Gerald Durrell were still with us so I could thank him personally for putting his ears in Corfu on paper for us all to enjoy!
