Stranger Things
(2016)

Will be a classic for decades to come
This feels like a you're watching classic Spielberg film that has been expertly constructed into a gripping series. It's nearly impossible not to like.

(Though I should note, as a horror fan, this show has one or two scenes on par with Ash vs. Evil Dead).

The Midnight Gospel
(2020)

An experience. Not just a series.
This show is what it's supposed to be...A mind-bending spiritual crisis that leaves you different from when you entered.

Archer
(2009)

Give it a season...
It becomes complicated, intelligent, and includes you in its inside jokes. It is VERY rough around the edges, and sensitive viewers won't be able to handle the content, but those who can won't regret it.

Some jokes may require research. This show can veer from a joke about sex with a burrito, to a joke about European politics that only one person in the room will get, in about three seconds. This isn't your run-of-the-mill action cartoon.

Wish Upon
(2017)

Good movie!
This movie is what it promises to be. It's a great pick for horror movie night. It paces itself nicely, it dispenses karma, and it maintains an air of mystery and variation throughout.

This being said, some of it is just like Final Destination, but with clumsiness, and is almost blooper funny when it shouldn't be.

I'll probably watch this again on Halloween. It isn't a masterpiece, but it is really entertaining.

The Willoughbys
(2020)

What the...!?
It may look pretty, but this movie is abusive and mean-spirited.

If anything, I'd think this movie probably just terrifies and confuses children who need help escaping abusive living situations into remaining silent.

What is the message..."If your parents don't feed you, make sure you have a good new parent lined up before asking for help or you'll wind up in solitary confinement?"..."If your parents abuse you, deal with it yourself?". "Any adult you like more than your parents has automatic custody rights, so move in with them?"

Am I missing some messages here?

Locke & Key
(2020)

Such a good show
This is the perfect show to watch if Stranger Things is too scary and Harry Potter isn't scary enough.

Mystery, magic, good pacing, and an ideal soundtrack to match. I'll definitely rewatch this one.

Riverdale
(2017)

Too weird to stop watching...
This melodramatic singing dumpsterfire is so bizarre I'm half-convinced it was written by Artificial Intelligence.

I'd have given it a 3, but I can't avert my gaze from the wreckage, and, entertainment-wise, I guess that counts for something.

Jumanji: The Next Level
(2019)

Entertaining
If you watch this movie not expecting it to be anything at all like the classic Jumanji, it's pretty fun.

Tiger King
(2020)

Did I dream that?
I had to keep checking if it was real. I kept thinking the weird part had happened and finding out I was wrong.

This series is like finding out that real life is based on a cartoon. It changes your whole perspective.

Cupcake & Dino: General Services
(2018)

Cutest Ever
Light and gentle comedy, pleasing voices, and an overall sweet nature. Few cartoons manage to be this vivid and imaginative while still maintaining a relaxing setting and a rational moral compass.

As a former animation student, I use it to unwind. If I had children, I'd own the box set before they could speak.

Ash vs Evil Dead
(2015)

Not for the faint of heart...
All the comedy and heart you could hope to find in the most horrific demonic horror setting possible. You'll exit a few episodes feeling dizzy.

If you don't normally watch horror, start smaller.

The Fanatic
(2019)

So very tired...
Do you like complex psychological concepts that affect society as a whole?

Great! Because this movie revolves around series of deeply serious, sad, and delicate psychological situations (like a learning ability affecting someone's understanding of legal and moral behavior)...................then solves almost every problem with violence!

I feel sick to my stomach.

Someone should punch this movie in the face.

Benjamin
(2019)

Misunderstood gem
Yes, it's painful, but it's also a critique of how we judge pathology of various forms. It explores how we speak over and ignore people we deem to be suffering instead of communicating with them. It also delves into how we tend to view the problems of others through our own biases. The pain and frustration has been carefully engineered. Underrated film.
