Priscilla
(2023)

Devoid of emotion
I really wanted to like this movie. Having read Elvis and Me a number of times and having watched the original mini-series, I had high hopes for this remake. Unfortunately, this was a huge let down. The movie's pace was jumpy and poor and out of line with the book its based on. Cailee's portrayal of Elvis was absolutely devoid of emotion. The story of these two people is full of ups and downs but Cailee plays it like she's wandering in a fog the whole time. Even the scenes surrounding Lisa's birth and the divorce just seem like any other blah moment in this girl's life. I know the original mini-series didn't go over well with a lot of folks but it was light years better and more engrossing. Do yourself a favor, skip this version, find the original and watch it.

The Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM
(2022)

Must watch
Everyone must watch this to see the sick underbelly of leftist culture. Candace Owens is at the top of her game showing Americans what investigative journalism really means. The corruption exposed should make every American cringe at the direction this country is taking. Her in depth study and connection between the Floyd riots to the grifting of America is spot on. The reporting the Dailywire did on this shows just how much Americans were taken during the lead up of the 2020 election and beyond. People who invested into this corruption of BLM should be appalled. This should be required viewing for all of America in the interest of exposing truth.

House of Darkness
(2022)

Who wrote this dialogue
We just tried to watch this movie. Whoever wrote this dialog clearly has never interacted with real humans. 20 minutes in and Justin Long's character was so unlikeable with the ceaseless rambling that we gave up. There was zero action or anything compelling to hook someone in. This would probably be suited best as a low budget play instead of a movie. The preview to the film was intriguing but if you can't hook an audience in the first 20 min of an hour and a half film the entire script needs to be rewritten. Overall I will give this a one star for the reimagining premise but sadly cannot give it any more than that.

Elvis
(2022)

Excellent take on Elvis and the Colonel
Loved this movie! Having read Elvis and the Colonel before I was very pleased with this movie! Tom Hanks played an incredible Parker and Austin Butler has got to be the best on screen portrayal of Elvis yet! Only knock I could think of would be some of collapsed timeline events but guess they had to do that. The ending is extremely moving. Best movie of the year.

Jurassic World Dominion
(2022)

Like two movies in one
I loved this movie. To me, this movie was like two movies - first part like a James Bond with dinos and the second part more like traditional Jurassic Park. Casting was brilliant all the way around. Loved the tie in back to Dodson. For me perfect way to wrap up the trilogies and keep in spirit with Crichton's original vision and message.

The only knock I have is the real3d version got a little blurry for me at times but overall the cinematography was beautifully done like all the movies in this series.

Blacklight
(2022)

Taken with a backlight
This movie is just meh. There are portions of the film that keep the interest but largely it's a snooze. Good actors poor script. I've come to really enjoy the characters Liam plays but this one was a huge miss.

Uncharted
(2022)

Pretty good action adventure flick
As a big fan of the game series I was excited for this movie. Overall I have to say it's pretty good, in fact I would have rated it higher except for one major flaw - Mark Wahlberg. Now Marky Mark has never been a stellar actor but this performance makes The Happening look like superstar material. He's so dry that he brings every scene he's in down. I hope they recast his role in the next one because the rest of the cast was pretty great.

The Batman
(2022)

Not the Nolan Batman but pretty great
Ok so here I am doing something I never thought I would be doing - giving a good review for a Robert Pattinson film but that's exactly what's happening. Yes, if you compare The Batman to Nolan's Batman trilogy it is not the same but that doesn't mean it pales in that comparison. This Batman is grittier and more detective like, which is a characteristic missing from Nolan's trilogy. In this role the brooding Pattinson nails it. The actual Bruce Wayne scenes are kept to a minimum because this is not the playboy Wayne people are accustomed to, rather this Wayne is more aligned to his Batman persona.

Overall, the movie is well shot, a little dark in lighting (which is why I'm not giving it a 10) but the flow of the story moves well. Yes, the movie is around 3 hours but you wouldn't know it. The scenes keep you engaged and reminds me of Batman meets Seven. The new Batmobile is like something straight out of Vin Diesel's garage, which I love. Gadgetry is kept to a minimum. And lastly, but certainly not least, the cast is top notch. Zoe Kravitz knocks it out of the park as a darker version of Catwoman. All the villains are realistic and the sadistic nature of the Riddler is way more engaging than the Jim Carey version.

Overall highly recommend, can't wait to see the sequel.

The King's Man
(2021)

A more serious Kingsman
I loved this movie. Unlike the first 2 Kingsman movies I found this one to be more serious in nature and content, although action scenes are still top notch. Ralph Fiennes shines in this movie. As a history buff, the WWI tie-ins interested me greatly and I was not disappointed. Obviously, this is a fictional story but the writers were able to weave in the impact of the Kingsman ala Forest Gump styling. I would be interested to see a sequel to this one against the lead up to WWII.

Mission: Impossible III
(2006)

2 hours of whispers
Short and sweet review. Great action film with nice premise ruined by 2 hours of non-stop whispering. This movie is extremely hard to hear. Background music like a concert but the people talking... well the director must have been sensitive to noise or everyone had laryngitis.

No Time to Die
(2021)

RIP Bond
So I stayed away from spoilers on this movie for months till I could see it. Going in I knew this would be Craig's last Bond movie and I was ok with that. Watching the movie I actually enjoyed it until the last 15 minutes when Hollywood tipped their hand at the fate of our hero. As Bond puts Madeleine and his daughter in the boat you know he'll never see them again. I guess this is symbolic because we, like Madeleine and the girl, will never see Bond like he was again. Minutes later it's over. Bond is dead. I would have rates this film higher because the other 2+ hours was good but call me old fashioned, I'd rather see the hero ride off into the sunset rather than die in some contrived redemptive death. Hollywood is busy killing off all the heroes that my generation grew up with. I suppose it's time to say goodbye and simply relive the nostalgia of yesteryear rather than wonder want horrific reimagining of the characters Hollywood will dream up next.

RIP Bond, it was a great run while it lasted.

Scream
(2022)

Wes Craven would have been proud
Gonna leave this short and sweet. This is a great tribute to the original. Great blend of legacy and new characters. I think Wes would have been proud to have this in his franchise. Loved it. If you haven't seen it and are a fan of the original go see this now.

Dexter: New Blood
(2021)

A lesson in how to ruin an icon
So early on in the season I was going to rate this series. Being a huge fan of the original I really liked seeing Dexter back and right away was hooked. I would have easily given this series a 10 out of 10 stars but then episode 10 happened. Whichever genius decided it was a good idea to bring back an iconic character just to kill him off should be fired. I guarantee not a single fan of the original show ever thought this season 1 ending was a good idea. And please, just please don't go where I think they will go. Let me be clear nobody wants to see Harrison as the murderer with Dexter as the ghostly guide. Don't do that to us. Let Dexter Rest In Peace now.

And Just Like That...
(2021)

Cringe off the scale
One of my wife's fav shows from the 90s early 2000s. Two decent movies as sequels. And now this. Way over the top with the woke stuff - just what the world needs right? Storyline in first episode was so cringe I lost interest 20 min in. Acting is subpar and gives way to the woke agenda every 2 min. Proof that once a chapter closes it's best to put the book on the shelf. Re-read it if you want to, but don't write more chapters.

Candyman
(2021)

Another classic becomes a victim
Another classic movie falls victim to the woke narrative. This movie is 90 min full of white people bad, cops bad, everyone else is a victim. The fear factor around Candyman is erased and his legacy of being up there with other horror icons like Kruger, Myers, Jason is erased. The acting in this movie is blah at best, with none of the characters being likable or relatable. This movie proves that somethings are best left in the past.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife
(2021)

Now this is how you make a sequel!
Rest of Hollywood best take notice - this is how you make a sequel! Stellar acting by the cast, perfect storylines, and the best mix of comedy and action with that touch of nostalgia. Movie paid serious homage to the beginnings and the revival of the original ghostbusters at the end of the movie gave me chills to see it on the big screen. Best movie of the past decade hands down.

The Matrix
(1999)

Most overrated movie in Hollywood history
Hands down the most overrate movie in history. Terrible story and plot, jerky scene flow. Cast is subpar at best with the second most boring actor (K. Reeves) Hollywood has ever seem ( only Matt Damon is worse). CGI is over the top and inspired many terrible clones in subsequent movies. All in all this is a D listed movie that stumbled its way into a box office hit.

Two and a Half Men
(2003)

A TV classic that should never have replaced its star
What can I say about Two and Half Men? I arrived to liking this show well after its run finished. While it was on I was always too busy to get into it and thought it campy with Charlie Sheen. However, watching it later on I have to say the pure comedic genius behind the show with Sheen and Cryer is just unparalleled. It's the type of show you can watch over and over and never get tired. The tragedy is the falling out between Lorre and Sheen that caused the latter's demise from the show. Egos should have been swept aside. Season 8, Charlie's last, leaves one feeling nothing but what-ifs for the show. Kutcher was a decent replacement for 2 of the 4 seasons he aired on, but nothing replaces the magic of the original cast. I, for one, would love to see a new season created picking up where season 12 leaves off with Charlie coming back (minus the cartoonish like finale sequence). What do you say Hollywood? In the age of reboots, let's do this thing right and bring back the magic.

Last Man Standing
(2011)

A classic for the ages
It's seldom when a star can follow up one hit show with another. An example that comes to mind is Lucille Ball. Well to me, Tim Allen joined her ranks with this show. Last Man Standing perhaps rivals if not surpasses Home Improvement and will forever be in the hall of classics for me. While the last season did not have all the best story lines like the previous seasons and the finale seemed lackluster the Baxters were like a family you wanted to be friends with. In today's TV where sitcoms struggle to be funny and where characters are increasingly hard to relate to, LMS was able to deliver. 9 years worth of shows to rewatch. A huge thanks to Tim Allen and all the superb cast for giving us something that felt like home. I for one will miss this show very much.

The Lost Symbol
(2021)

Why mess with the book?
I'm trying to judge the show for its own merit but it is so far different from the book that it makes it difficult. The book was fantastic! Why change the story? And Langdon without Tom Hanks is really hard to watch. I suppose if I had never seen any of the Hanks movies or read the books I would rate higher.

Dear Hollywood please don't do this with Origin when you make it.

Bad Candy
(2020)

A terrible version of Trick R Treat
So we watched this largely for Corey Taylor and we typically like horror anthology movies but this is a giant swing and a miss. There were a couple of entertaining moments but this thing tries too hard to be an over the top Trick R Treat without any appeal of Sam. Definitely skip.

Bad Boys for Life
(2020)

Funniest of the trilogy
I was hesitant to watch this after so many years between the second one and now but glad I did. Great story line, decent supporting cast, but the comedy from Marcus in this one was off the chain. Loved it.

Jungle Cruise
(2021)

Keep the good movie times rolling on the river
Pretty big fan of The Rock and his movies so despite the string of horrible Disney releases in the past couple of years, I decided to give it a shot. Got to say I was pretty impressed. Plenty of good action and, yes to other people's review points there is plenty of Disney wokeness baked in, but they at least found a way to tamp it down to make it tolerable. The banter between The Rock and Emily Blunt is fun to watch and the actors put on a good show. All in all, I would give this movie a high review, definitely worth seeing. We need more entertaining movies like this. People need to remember that Hollywood will always bake politics into movies but I like how they did this with it not being over the top. Bring in good writers and good actors like this and keep the good movie times rolling.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions
(2021)

Excellent sequel!
For me this was an excellent sequel! The puzzles in the rooms were creative and provided a good thrill throughout the movie. Loved the ending! Looking forward to part 3 - finally a good horror series is coming out of Hollywood, been too long.

Rambo: Last Blood
(2019)

Best for last
Don't believe all the PC millenial trolls on here. This movie fits perfectly into Rambo franchise and is a great finale. All of Rambo's struggles to be normal come to an end and he goes out in a blaze of glory. This movie was well written and acted. If only Hollywood could get back to making movies as gripping as this vs the PC farces they keep churning out. Thank you Stallone for hanging in there to give us a great final chapter.
