Helstrom: Mother's Little Helpers
(2020)
Episode 1, Season 1

Surprisingly good
I was positively surprised by an intriguing and fast moving show Horror, fantasy and suspense in a single show, together with the intrigue of evil I'll continue to watch and I expect more !

Doctor Who: The End of the World
(2005)
Episode 2, Season 1

Great , fun and to think about
This second episode does not only continue with great sci-fi and a funny, light hearted tone but it also makes us think how many things about this world we take for granted as we never think that it might eventually come to an end.

Fringe: Neither Here Nor There
(2011)
Episode 1, Season 4

Enjoyable, fun season premiere
While I though I was going to quit Fringe due to the number of filler episodes which do not contribute to the main story line, I decided to come back after feeling fed up with the depressing story taking place in the alternate universe of Dark.

Fringe is a fresh show, quite fun with good and suspenseful sci-fi. The premiere introduces an alternative time line in which Peter does not exist, although we know he's still there.

What went wrong with what the observer did ? After all, Peter is still there.

The premiere opens questions that I hope will be answered throughout the season. And this time, I don't care if there are filler episodes to go bu !

I'll enjoy them anyway.

Doctor Who: Rose
(2005)
Episode 1, Season 1

Fun sci-fi to give it a try
While not perfect, this first episode was fun with interesting sci-fi and suspense (who is this alien doctor who ? What capacities he's got, why is someone chasing him , why does he appear in different times ?) to act as a motivator to continue watching ?

Arrival
(2016)

Masterpiece that will blow your mind
Great acting, music, images, special effects. This movie makes you feel all the time that you are there, feeling, living what the characters are going through.

Filled with suspense, this movie is all about answering a single question: what is it that the aliens getting to Earth are looking for ?

In answering this question you are driven into the world of language theory, into the mathematics of language, into an incredible theory on how aliens may communicate, and on how their way of communicating and therefore, of perceiving reality, differs from the way we, as humans, percieve the universe and the concept of time.

As the main character understands alien language, she starts perceiving the world the way aliens do and manages to answer the question on what is it that they are searching for.

The movie also shows how mistaken we may be of we try to understand alien civilizations with human ideas, perceptions, history, thoughts, impressions, feelings and fears. Indeed, in being able to understand alien's universe and how time works in it, the main character manages to avoid the terrible consequences of using the human idea of reality to find a "solution" to the "alien invation".

This is a must-watch film !

If you like sci-fi this is for you.

And if you don't, but you enjoy intelligent, well written movies that make you think and question humanity's perception of the whole universe, this is also for you.

Give it a chance!

Watch it once, twice, three times of you need to.

You won't regret it.

Dark
(2017)

From excellent and mindblowing to "bah" to depressing
Season 1: smart, mindblowing, must-watch 10/10

The show opens with Einstein's idea that time is an illusion and uses the hypothesis that past, present and future are connected (so that "the begining si the end and the end is the begining" in a non-linear perception of time) and that events repeat every number of years to explain the disappearance of children (and adults) in different periods of time in a german town called Windem.

Under this theory, we start to find connections between characters and events. We start seeing objects and not only people moving in time. We get to see incredible paradoxes such as the idea that something used to travel in time could not be built until someone from the future brought the material, the knowledge and the explanation required to build it to its creator.

Really great ideas were settled during this first season. The suspense was great and you could also play and try to answer questions that the show or even yourself would open.

Season two: bah !!! 7/10

Ok! So we continue with the same theories and we add more times so that we continue seeing characters moving in time but without adding anything interesting to the plot.

Maybe the good part of this second season was that the writers continued introducing some interesting connections between characters and events, but there was a point at which I started asking myself if the writers were interested in trying to close the suspense they had opened or if they were just interested in trying to show the audience how intelligent they are.

Season 3: depressing, messy and only (barely) saved by the last episode: 3/10

Well, here they introduced the idea of the alternate universe and the apocalypse and how to avoid it and they Lost it completely ... Not because the idea of an alternate universe is bad but because you Just kept learning that it doesn't matter what the characters did, the apocalypse was going to occur anyway.

So, by the end of episode 9, I Just felt that I would prefer all characters to kill themselves because I didn't care any more !

The idea that two characters could finally save everything was clearly a stupid one but it luckily worked because I got so fed up with both of them, (the Adam and Eve of Dark) that I ended up enjoying the idea that the existance of both of their universes would not exist if not opened by the original one !

Points in favor: 1. To the great connection between characters and weird, mindblowing relations between them as a result of the characters moving in time.

2. Certain suspense and open ending.

A thought: I have no doubt that the writers could have closed the show in two season without the need of transforming Dark into such a depressing show.

A reflection: I had decided to stop watching Fringe by the end of season 3 because I felt it was getting filled with episodes which were Just "soap opera" and did not contribute to the main plot.

After watching Dark, I decided to go back to Fringe.

The idea of the alternate universe is settled in a much more funny way!

If you have not watch it, give it a chance.

The Expanse
(2015)

Must Watch masterpiece
The whole show is amazing, from the plot, to the effects, to the acting.

The conflict between superpower countries and their advance to take advantage and opress satellite, smaller countries taken to space and the solar system !!!

What happened in the past with the discovery of new territories taken to the future: will the oppressed accept their fate? Why not fight to change that ?

The show is filled with suspense, politics and conflict. It also explores the personal side of the characters without transforming the show into cheap soap opera.

I don't rate the show with a 10 Just because I think that there was a new, or different or additional story opened in the final season that was left with no closure from my point of view.

If you really want to enjoy good sci fi, which will make you think about the future, question many things and keep you watching, just give this show a chance. I can assure you will not regret it.

Chernobyl
(2019)

A must watch
The show really explores Chernobyl tragedy from all different points of view in a very realistic way.

How mistakes were hidden due to fear, the terrible consequences of hiding them, the sacrifice made by the people working at the site, How human lives seemed not to matter and How important it was, at the time of the Cold War, not to show any sign of weakness.

The final episode is real masterpiece with an excellent and very clear technical explanation of what happened in the reactor.

Upgrade
(2018)

Great and original
Sci fi movie exploring the dark side of technology in a suspensful way.

Technology may help us to make our lives so much better, to improve so many things, to make things simple, .... But , have we thought about its consequences ? Are we prepared to make use of it in an ethical way ? Which are the limits ?

While the begining seemed a little bit depressing for me , the suspense kept me watching until the end!

Just give it a chance. All scenes are interesting and it moves quite fast. When I finished watching, my comment was just: Wow !!!

The Butterfly Effect
(2004)

Entertaining and suspensful !
While not original in its plot, this movie settles the idea on how something small, a decision, an action .... may change the course of things The suspense is good and it allows you imagine things: was the movie about multiple universes ? Was it that Kyle could move among them and make a different decision in each of them as he goes back in time ? Or is it Just that he moves back in time within a same universe changing the future ?

I recommend this movie really very much It will keep you watching and concentrated till the end !

Guardians of the Galaxy
(2014)

Quit after 20 minutes...
I will not rate a movie that I did not manage to whithstand for more than 20 minutes. I'm enjoying pretty much most of MCU movies but this one seemed it lacked a plot and the characters were stupid and uninteresting.

It may me an entertaining movie for kids and teens and maybe adults spending time with their children. I saw certain resemblance with Star Wars, a saga that, for the same reasons, I don't really enjoy .

Luchshe, chem lyudi: Episode Seven
(2018)
Episode 7, Season 1

Not as great....
As the previous episodes but still good.

Maybe the most interesting part was the discovery, by Gregory, that Alisa is capable of killing humans, in oposition to Asimov's principles.

And maybe .... That she committed murder and lied to hire it.

Luchshe, chem lyudi: Episode Six
(2018)
Episode 6, Season 1

One of the best
This episode is filled with emotions and suspense.

The bad guys are even worst.

And we are all the time wondering what will continue to happen.

I don't understand why this show is so underrated.

Luchshe, chem lyudi: Episode Five
(2018)
Episode 5, Season 1

Another good episode ...
In which we continue to see the bad side of humans and the feelings and emotions of robots.

In particular, it is incredible to see how jealous the children's mom is of everyone ! She's becoming annoying !

It's as if Aris is the only one who's not deceived by her.

This episode shows us so much of the story of the characters and the relationships among them.

It also settles new suspense as well :

Which are the consequences of making deals with the devil ???

Luchshe, chem lyudi: Episode Four
(2018)
Episode 4, Season 1

Robots 3, humans 0
Humans : The grandson attacking his beloved grandpa's robot and taking him to hospital.

A man who expects robots to replace humans forcing early retirement at the same time he is only interested in using her daughter as an incubator ... so modern thinking !!!

Those promoting robots as intelligent beings while they continue to believe that humans are still more intelligent.

On a son rejecting his father.

On a mother feeling jealous of a robot without caring about her daughter's happiness.

On a woman who questions robot intelligence and inability to feel using them to replace his dead son

Robots: On how to help a father find his son.

On advice to a father on the need to show love and be more with his children.

On spending time and showing love to a child, acting almost as a parent.

On killing the bad guys to save her family.

Ok ! Robots 3 - humans 0.

Luchshe, chem lyudi: Episode Three
(2018)
Episode 3, Season 1

Robots 2, humans 0
Ok, so humans continue lying, deceiving, hiding crimes no matter the reason.... A woman spies on his ex husband so that she can get the full custody of her children and groups of people just make fun of attacking robots.

Meanwhile, Arisa has managed yo prove she is likely to have feelings, to help humans and even to save a child's life !

Robots.... You've got it !

Luchshe, chem lyudi: Episode Two
(2018)
Episode 2, Season 1

Robots 1 humans 0
Well, here we see humans prepared to kill, to fight, to discriminate, to pay for silence, to cheat, to threat, to lie ... While, at least Arisa has proved to be able to love and be helpful

Robots 1 , humans 0.

The Avengers
(2012)

Not as good ...
I am pretty surprised by all the so good reviews.

While this movie was the first to gather all of our favourite superheroes, well Mrs. Marvel is not here and I do regret it, I think it really has no interesting plot.

The story of the stolen tesseract was just a five-minute excuse for a 2.5 hour movie filled with action scenes which do not add anything to any story arc.

I did not enjoy it that much.

I give it a 6 for the interesting idea, at that time, of putting all of our heroes together and even Loki in the scene.

Thor: The Dark World
(2013)

For those fans of miltiple worlds ....
This is another Marvel movie filled with fantasy in which all worlds are connected and Thor unites forces with his friends and even with his evil brother Loki to save all worlds from falling into darkness.

Good plot and strongly implemented without falling into never -ending action scenes which add nothing to the main story.

Enjoyable and fun.

Luchshe, chem lyudi: Episode One
(2018)
Episode 1, Season 1

Good start....
And much better than I expected.

Robots are part of our lives now and they have been programmed almost to serve humans.

But be careful as some may reveal ....

This is not a new premise but the plot has been well stablished and it seems that it may end up showing all the good and the dark side of androids and human beings.

Once again it settles the dilemma of introducing robots in our daily lives and the conflict between those who defend such ideas and those questioning them.

The show is suspenseful and the mystery is good enough to keep you interested.

I hope we may eventually conclude who is better !!!

Good Omens: Hard Times
(2019)
Episode 3, Season 1

Different and awsome
I enjoyed the episode. The first part is all about Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship throughout history, treating all events with acid humour. Quite an intelligent way of looking at different historical events ... The second part continues with the main story arc in an intriguing way.

Good Omens: In the Beginning
(2019)
Episode 1, Season 1

Good and evil ...
Meet to avoid apocalypse.

Nice premise. This first episode is filled with good special effects, quite an intriguing and a funny plot and a great sarcastic and acid humor used as a satire to religious "truths, ideas and beliefs".

If you feel like watching a fantasy- mysterious and fun show, Just give it a try.

The Orville: All the World Is Birthday Cake
(2019)
Episode 5, Season 2

Another enjoyable trekkie episode
Once again this show makes us remember what our civilization is looking for.

The episode starts with a first contact and characters admitting that this si all what they have been looking for : to discover other "types" of people, their cultures and beliefs.

It was funny to see that the civilization discovered was almost a picture of our own past !!

It settles questions: what is right or wrong ?

Isn't true that "right" or "wrong" depends on a cultural belief ?

At the end we discover that the solution to the problem was a lie which "saved a whole population". Well ! That is a common speech usually heard.

And to finish ! Pay attention to the final song !

Celebration !!! This means that these May be able to persist for so many years from now !!!

X-Men
(2000)

More mutants and less humans needed !!!
Y enjoyed this movie, for different reasons:

1) From the "sociological/ moral/ human" point of view:

It starts settling the idea on how those who have been always persecutted for being different are not to be feared or ignored and they may even be gifted and needed to save and help those humans who consider themselves "normal".

2) From the sci-fi point of view: On How we can use technology development to "use" and take advantage of our different abilities

3) From the moral point of view: Should we take advantage of "human" abilities ?

And what or how is it that we are going to make use of them ?

Which was purpose?

4) From the plot point of view: Mutants in confrontation.

Mutants as allies.

Mutants trying to survive.

5) other aspects: Quite fun, not boring. I particularly liked the fact that the movie is not filled with one our of simple action and characters running and shooting without adding anything interesting to the plot.

To conclude, this is another super-hero movie in which heroes are not perfect worth watching.

And the final scene is quite intriguing. What Willy happen then ?

The OA: Overview
(2019)
Episode 8, Season 2

Different but good
While this second season has proved to be different when compared to the first one, it is good and much more mysterious and suspensful.

So many questions have been opened and almost all of them answered allowing also us to conlcude, think or even imagine how the show could continue .... Open ending to think about No need for a third season The writers have made a great show.
