In Cold Blood
(1967)

creepy and surreal
"In Cold Blood" is such a strange film that it is sometimes hard to believe that it is actually a true story. The two main characters of Perry Smith and Dick Hickock seem like such easy going people, which is what makes it so surreal when they commit the horrible crime that they commit and which is what makes them so creepy. I recommend it for its stand out performances from Robert Blake and Scott Wilson and for its haunting music score.

Saturday Night Live
(1975)

Peaks and Valleys
I think that the first few years of Saturday Night live, (1975-1980) will always be remembered as its best years. It is a show that has been through "Peaks and Valleys" in the over 25 years that it has been on. I think that it has improved in the last 4-5 years with improved writing and very talented cast members but I don't think that it will ever recapture the greatness of its first five years.

Prince of the City
(1981)

One of Lumet's best!
Prince of the City is probably Sidney Lumet's best film to date. It is better then Serpico because it shows how dirty police corruption can get. Everyone is guilty in this film to some degree, there are no hero's. The viewer is taken inside the world of drug addicts and drug dealers, cops, lawyers and judges and is shown how easy it is for them to sell out and how sad it is when they do sell out. While "Prince of the City is a very long film and sometimes gets a little slowed down, it is a great story that is worth watching.

Analyze That
(2002)

Pointless!
Why did they have to make a sequel to Analyze This (1999)? I understand that it was a big hit that made a lot of money and I saw it when it came out and I liked it but the world could of done without this poor excuse for a sequel. Analyze That is the usual sequel with an almost Identical plot that gets old the second time around. Its also kind of agonizing to watch Billy Crystal and Robert Deniro have their talents wasted away in this movie when they could be put to use in a better movie. I recommend The Sopranos over Analyze That any day. It is better written and the humor is much more enjoyable and the characters are much more memorable.

The Panic in Needle Park
(1971)

A Depressing Slice of Life!
This is probably one of Al Pacino's best films. I would say that it is even better then "The Godfather" because you almost want to reach out and help the characters but you can't. They all have the same problem. That problem is heroin addiction and it has caused a multitude of problems in their lives. This is a great film. It is usually not shown on television (I did see it on PBS a few years ago but I think that was a rare exception) I think however, because of its realistic content most stations try not to air it. If you can find it on video I highly recommend it.

Igby Goes Down
(2002)

Simply the Best!
What a Great film!

I saw this film two weeks ago and found it to be one of the best films of the year. Everyone in the cast delivers a wonderful performance and the writing is very honest and memorable. It is like "The Catcher in the Rye" except it is more upbeat (at least I found it to be). It is the kind of film that will be remembered at the Golden Globes and the Oscars and by film buffs for years to come. They just don't make them like this anymore. It is definitly a true classic.

Leprechaun
(1992)

Warwick Davis makes it interesting!
This movie is only interesting because of Warwick Davis. He starred in Willow (1988) and was one of the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi (1983). In those films he played good natured characters but he was overshadowed by the other performers in the film or the film itself. In "Leprechaun" he steals the show and draws attention away from a silly plot with silly supporting characters. The Leprechaun is pure evil, no doubt about it. Davis makes him very interesting to watch however with his facial gestures and how he delivers his lines, especially a lot of his sarcastic one line liners that come in the form of a rhyme. Davis seems to truly enjoy playing this character I think because he can make it totally "his" and because I think it is different from any other character that he played on film beforehand. He could of made the Leprechaun someone we totally despise and can't stand. Instead he makes him in to someone who we find a lot of fun in watching, even if he is the bad guy.

Judge Mills Lane
(1998)

Bring back the Judge!
Why did they cancel Judge Mills Lane? The Judge had just the right tone for a court show. He was serious but always knew how to find the humor in his cases and in platiffs and defendants who were unruly and disrespectful. He defenitly deserves a second chance to prove himself to television viewers.
