Shin kyûseishu densetsu Hokuto no Ken: Raô den - Gekitô no shô
(2007)

Probably the best of any HNK
This movie piece things together around the story found in the OVAs and the other movies. But for better comprehension watch in chronologic order. Masterfully directed and scripted, for me it became an artwork, no fanservice, without pretentions but at the same time outstanding, beautiful drawings and a perfectly timed plot.

Violence and blood as usual but used to develop the story, not to sell. No Hollywood style crap camera shots, no wasted graphic resources around futile things. HNK is a love story about mankind, but harsh and raw, and painful. Effects in this movie are subtle, beautiful and meaningful. The line of the drawings is the best of any hnk. After watching all other HNK animes this one left me breathless.

Before watching this movie i still wondered if the manga has untold parts of the story, but now i got the whole plot.

Hokuto no Ken 2
(1987)

Not the second part, it is the second act.
I dare to say it is better than the first act. The story fully continues, it is not an "added" story. Sometimes it runs so fast one wonders where is this story going to go. Great twist plots, most of them credible and it does not unfold as one could imagine. No doubt the writer Buronson did his best to rip off the audience's heart.

There are usually false spoilers as an advance of the next chapter, maybe wrong translations, who know, so i prevented from watching those.

Great story but so cruel to the feelings not because of the violence but about the story itself, heartrending, i say so because one find HNK to be a love story. Apart from the superior love expressed through the forgiveness I can not agree that a last minute contrition could save the worst evil man in such a way he becomes a martyr of love. Hard to swallow.

The story does not end with the last ova chapter, the manga still have some story left so if interested check out the internet to see how it really ends, and then check out for the ova "Shin HNK".

At the end maybe you will feel the same lump in the throat as me. I still wonder what if not love is then the motivation underlying Ken? Mr Buronson was heartless about Lynn, too much.

Shôjo tsubaki: Chika gentô gekiga
(1992)

Ufff, be careful this is not for everyone.
Extremely crude and sad. Some people say this is art and a cult anime, not really sure.

This is a Chinese legend brought up to animation. Low budget animation, but so crude and evil story there is room to think if mankind evilness should be recreated this way or even seen again.

Be aware.

Mezon Ikkoku
(1986)

Do not miss this in your life
After watching the series in small bits it will take some time to digest it all. Watch it in slow pace.

Beauty, solid argument and characters, deep emotions, funny and laughable at times, you will also have to wipe away tears. This story will be forever in you.

Takahashi Rumiko gekijô: Ningyo no mori
(2003)

Rumiko's sublime horror visual poetry
Unexpected horror from Maison Ikkoku's Rumiko Takahashi brings us a horror tale, incomplete for me, but with extraordinary script beauty.

It is very difficult to find somewhere else what i find to be sublime poetry told by means of horror. Simply a must.

Hokuto no Ken
(1984)

Love is hidden under all the sorrow, tears and violence you will endure.
This masterfully written and developed story is told by means of pain and tears. Crude, unfair and definitely sad, it uncovers the reasons behind the power quest.

Love is the key of the story and it is shown as the story unfolds, the main character Kenshiro goes through a journey and unnoticed by viewers he becomes spiritually deeper. The plot twists are unexpected and there is richness in the story and characters are developed in depth.

Several actors (japanese) reflect high stake through their voice as they transmit deep emotions. Must be said the last words of Souther are a great voice performance and can be overwhelming to the audience.

This is a story surrounded by hate, pain and violence but it must be seen as an allegory to human passions and the hidden truth of love beyond all that.
