Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
(2024)

I had low expectations and was disappointed
I think I've been spoiled by the masterpiece that was Godzilla minus one. Going back to this ultra generic brainless 0 story nonsense is just disappointing. I don't expect a great story but the dialogue was so bad and the story so pointless I almost wanted the humans dead so I didn't have to listen to them. Several Uber generic rehashed MCU jokes that weren't even funny. I love Godzilla and the monster verse started off great with Brian Cranston and that first Godzilla film but since then it's just slowly gotten worse imo. Like I said, I knew this would be dumb and I went in with low expectations but left feeling almost insulted at how ridiculous and stupid it was. I hate to say it because I love the idea of Godzilla movies.

I love Narcos but this is not that great
The previous Narcos series are some of my favorites in the entire Netflix catalogue but this was a bit of a let down. Felt like it lacked the intensity, story and suspense of some of the previous series. Sofia Vergara seemed like she put her all into the role and I admire the attempt but several critical scenes just weren't that believable and just didn't really win me over. I'm not a critic or well versed in what makes an actor/actress great but she just didn't do it for me. There was also a pretty healthy dose of social messaging about the battle between genders that I easily could have done without. So overall, subpar storytelling, acting and a bit of social messaging that really had me just about ready to turn it off after a few episodes. I will say, the last two episodes were my favorite and kept me from saying it was a complete waste of time.

Black Adam
(2022)

Pretty bad but kind of fun
As a movie this was pretty awful imo. Very few scenes had any emotional impact whatsoever due to poor plot and character development. Great action and visuals. A few mild laughs here and there but after that it really has little to offer. Maybe a good excuse to do something with the family/friends and eat some popcorn. The post credits scene was probably the best scene of the entire movie if we're being honest. Some of the characters/heroes I didn't feel anything for and the villain borderline just appears out of nowhere in the second half of the movie. If you want a good movie this isn't it... if you want some brainless action that looks great I'll due.

I almost hated this movie
This just felt like an unorganized mess of a movie. I couldn't latch on to any character and even the main couple I didn't feel much connection or interest with. I keep waiting to think I'd become invested at some point but never did. It felt like a ton of unnecessary introductions and random events happening for almost no reason. The ending scene at the secret dinner and the finale of the two characters was touching but that didn't overcome the rest of what felt like waiting for meaning. I'll give it a 6 because I thought the acting was great and the look and feel of the movie was really nice. I consider myself very open minded to a variety of film types but overall, I definitely wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife
(2021)

Almost perfect reboot/sequel
Of course a movie like this is going to rely on some nostalgia but I think this is a great example of how to do it right. The new young characters did such an amazing job! Great little actors and honestly super funny and entertaining. The story was an interesting twist that made sense. I found myself almost a little sad when it I realized the movie was almost over and the Igon plot line almost brought tears to my eyes as it concluded. Definitely recommended for any ghostbusters fans out there!!

The Matrix Resurrections
(2021)

Pretty much sucked
This movie relies almost exclusively on flashbacks, memberberries and meta references. Literally 30-40% of the movie is made up of this stuff. Then the additional content is just action and scenes of exposition to lazily explain what's going on. It's kind of cool to see what's new with Neo/Trinity but this was clearly just a half assed cash grab for Warner Brothers. Sad to see what started as such a masterpiece end up almost on the same level as Space Jam 2.

Just Friends
(2005)

Dumb but funny
Not going to win any oscars but it's a great goofy funny movie. Good to put on at a party or get together and just want to throw something fun on. I've watched it several times and it's always an easy laugh. At 90 minutes it won't take up your whole night either.

The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story
(2019)

Started strong... finished boring
Seeing how the band recovered and dealt with Freddie's passing but after they found Adam it seemed like it started to get repetitive with the cheerleading about how incredible the new lineup is. Could have ended about 20-30 min earlier. Oh well, probably worth a watch if you really love queen.

Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel
(2021)

Just OK
I have to admit that I watched all 4 episodes. But by the end i couldn't wait for it to be over. Forensic Files could have done this better in 25 minutes instead of repeating a bunch of the same stuff over and over and adding in a bunch of whacko Youtubers. By the end I don't know if I felt more sorry for the dead girl or all the Internet trolls losing themselves over someone they never met. Maybe worth a watch but also maybe not. If you love these types of shows go for it.

Space Jam: A New Legacy
(2021)

Pretty awful
I watch a ton of NBA basketball so was really interested to see this. It was a struggle to get through despite my genuine curiosity. I'm not really a LeBron advocate but his acting for a professional athlete was better than expected. Some of the jokes from the toons were kind of funny. Overall it just seemed like a mess of cameos and advertisements for Warner Bros. Not sure who was responsible for putting this together but they did a terrible job. Second star is for the few chuckles I got out of it.

The Invisible Man
(2020)

Meh
Started off slow but picked up a little in the second half. Not terrible but definitely not great either. A solid 6 that I probably would recommend with caution to a friend
