Grey's Anatomy
(2005)

disgusted
I only give this a 3 out of 10 because of one thing. I am SO sick of the politics outside of the show trumping the show itself. When Grey's first started, I ADORED it! I watched it every week. Then, this season, they moved it a different night, opposite CSI. I quit watching, figuring I'd buy the DVD. At this point, however, I really don't give a rat's behind if I ever watch it again. I'm really just sickened by how much rotten publicity an originally great show is getting - publicity that was generated by a stupid fight that cast members had and publicity caused them to fire one of the hugely main characters. There was no reason whatsoever for that fight to become as out in the open as it did. And now they're attacking Ellen Pompeo for something her boyfriend did years ago? Come on. Grow up and watch the show for the medical drama, not the lives of the actors and actresses on the show. I was a fan until all of this. I still think that the premise is wonderful. I still love McDreamy and Meredith together. However, when the plot began to be trumped by outside baloney, I gave up. I'm sure many others have too. Way to go gossip-mongers. Thanks for ruining one of the best shows on television.

28 Weeks Later
(2007)

meh.....
I've seen better.....but I've also seen A lot worse. I love the concept behind the films - that its a virus and not some sort of weird radiation or something (please no hatemail from Romero fans, as I greatly enjoy NotLD and his other zombie films). For a summer film, in which we seem to expect SO MUCH, the sort of...almost minimalist feel to these 28... movies is refreshing. However...something about the movie as a whole just sort of fell flat for me. Maybe its because its a sequel and its sort of ingrained into my mind that sequels RARELY EVER live up to the originals or what it is but...I just liked the first film better. There were almost Blair-Witch-like scenes where the camera was jostled about and everything was shaky and I just wasn't into that at all. It was almost nauseating. Still, it had its good points. The opening sequence of the film in the farm house with Robert Carlyle and Catherine McCormack and the other survivors is quite tense and very enjoyable. I give it a solid 7.

Exorcist: The Beginning
(2004)

One helluva horror movie!
Having watched the original movie the night before I saw this one, I prayed that the spirit of it wouldn't be lost in all of the newage horror film hooplah. When I sit through a horror movie, I except to be entertained. With so many movies lately, its more about who is in them than what they are about. While Exorcist: The Beginning doesn't fail on the gore and grossness (ie the murders of crows eating icky things and the whole bit with the hyenas), it doesn't get lost. On the contrary. It brings to light the why and the how of The Exorcist. When you're sitting in a darkened theatre surrounded by people waiting to get scared, the tension so thick you couldn't even cut it with King Arthur's Excalibur, and a creature pops up, making the people in front of you lose their popcorn, the entire experience is all the better. Exorcist: The Beginning delivers just this.

The Evil Dead
(1981)

All I can say is.....wow
How in the name of all that is cinematically holy did this film become horror history? Scary as hell? Please. Teletubbies are scarier. And I paid money for this? I was insulted. How can anyone put this film up there with "Dracula"; with "Poltergeist"; with "The Exorcist"? If this film is one of the scariest horror movies you'll ever see, I'd also like to suggest a few titles that will keep you on the edge of your seat: "Scooby Doo on Zombie Island" is classic. You may also want to try the Charlie Brown Halloween Special "Its The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!". 0/10.

Spartacus
(2004)

Utterly Amazing, Hauntingly Sad
I'll admit it right off. I've never seen the Kirk Douglas version of the film. From what I understand of it though, Douglas' portrayal was a much harder, gritty character than was Goran Visnjic's. Visnjic made you feel for he and all his men. The subtle undertone of sadness that permeated the character was breath-taking. While fighting, he moved with catlike grace and fiery hate towards those that enslaved him. The movie made me feel like I was there. The character jumped off of the screen with such truth that one could not help but cheer their victories and agonize and cry with them at their defeats. All in all, Spartacus was, in this humble writer's opinion, one of the most fascinating, beautifully choreographed and acted, and, most likely, underrated and unseen mini series of all time.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
(2003)

Splendiferous!!!!!
As soon as I heard that they were making a movie based on the ride, I knew I had to see it. Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom made the want to see it ever stronger. And I must say, I had more fun sitting in that theatre than I have had in a long time. Honestly, this one of the best efforts I've ever seen. Johnny Depp was Jack Sparrow. I don't mean to say that he merely played Jack Sparrow. His actions and attitude and accent and voice all came together so perfectly that you forgot that he wasn't actually a pirate, sailing the seas, completely mad and wonderfully amusing for it. Orlando Bloom played such a Will Turner that made it obvious that the part was all but written for him. His eyes held all the emotions that Will felt. He was an inspired choice. Two very enthusiastic thumbs way up from this movie-goer. The critics were wrong, yet again.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
(2003)

Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
So far this summer, there have been two movies that I would sell my soul to see, this being one of them (the other being Pirates of the Caribbean......). And neither have disappointed me. The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen sizzled with onscreen chemistry. All the characters just sort of worked. The dialogue was wonderful. A better Agent Sawyer (Shane West) couldn't have been found. As the egotistical, painfully vain Dorian Gray, Stuart Townsend was perfectly evil. Sean Connery as Quartermain was inspired. No one could have played Quartermain with that air of dignified defiance as Connery did. Bravo to Norrington for his efforts in bringing not only comic book but classic characters to life and making then lovable. You can actually care about these characters. You fear for their safety. You want to applaud their victories. In summation, The critics are indeed, and once again, wrong. If you're looking for a fast-paced, enjoyable summer experience, The League is what you what.

Good Morning, Miami
(2002)

I adore it!
I can't help but this show. You've got the hot guy, his perky love interest, the annoyingly full of himself anchor man, the smart-alec assistant, the sort of crazy guy, the trampy yet amusing co-anchor, and the funny nun. What more could you want? Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
