Abigail
(2024)

OMG!! GET READY!
I was expecting some originality based on the trailer, but it was still a lot better than expected. The film shows a surprising level of self-awareness of horror tropes and different takes on the genre. Some of the plot twists were a little predictable, but the writing was still quite brilliant. The gore was spot-on slap-you-in-the-face amazing. The acting was top-notch and the chemistry between the actors was also excellent. Alisha Weir was especially good in her role as the seemingly innocent monstrous vampire. There was also enough character development to make you not only root for your favorite character, but also not be sure who to trust.

The Bad Seed
(1956)

Exceptional
The Bad Seed is probably one of the best movies of its kind. Although the beginning seems like a slow burn effect, events quickly add up, and foreshadowing is artfully used throughout the film. The acting was top notch, including Patty McCormack as the seemingly perfect, yet cold-hearted remorseless child serial killer. As you watch Christine's emotional turmoil and heartbreaking problems, it's easy to feel sorry for both her and Hortense, as two mothers who have no idea how to cope with the shock they've recently had involving both of their children. Even as well-written as the script was, the ending is still so jarring, but poetic that you don't see it coming.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
(2019)

Was expecting more
Considering this was the direct sequel to one of my favorite movies, I wasn't sure that it could live up the original. Although there were plenty of good jokes, I feel like it did not come close to the heart or cleverness of the first movie. I honestly found the huge "plot twist" to be completely irrational and inconsistent. Based on what happened, I see the only reason that they even put in the idea of skipping forward five years was only because of when the second movie was completed in relation to the first. The makeovers they did for the main characters didn't seem consistent at all with anything that had already been established for them, to the point of barely being able to follow the plot. I can think of a couple different ways that the ending could have been done better. I seriously did not see the point of marrying Batman to the queen, who was one of my least favorite characters. I loved the references to Die Hard and Back to the Future, but overall I was pretty disappointed.

Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2
(2024)

BEST HORROR SEQUEL EVER!
Was expecting more than I had seen from the first movie just based on the trailer, but I never would have guessed that I would be completely blown away! I may never judge a sequel movie based on its predecessor ever again. As weak as the first movie was, that's how strong this film was. Almost every detail was flawless, from the foreshadowing, the acting, the writing, the plot twists, the use of camera angles, and even filling in the blanks from the first film. I enjoyed every second of this movie and even if you hated the first one, you have GOT to see this one! I will recommend this film to any fellow horror junkie, no matter how much they scoff!

Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey
(2023)

Meh... don't know
To be fair I was not expecting this movie to be taken seriously for one second. The idea of two of the most lovable childhood characters turning psychotic and going on a rampage is obviously something that people expect to laugh, not scream, at. Overall, though, the movie is hard to understand, even with the ridiculous sounding idea. I expected to be able to laugh at the ridiculously over-the-top style and perhaps weak effects and did indeed see some moments done so "badly" that it was almost hysterical. As someone who watches cheesy horror movies to laugh, I can tell you that this really belongs in its own special group. I can't necessarily say that I liked this movie, but I could never say that I hated it. Everything in it was so overdone that it was hilarious when you look back at it. I think it would have been better if they had done with zombie versions of the animals, though.

Elemental
(2023)

TWELVE OUT OF TEN!
For someone who's grown up in a conservative, old-fashioned family, this film in particular speaks to me. I resonated very well with the character of Ember, being someone who is artistic, passionate, fiery, and deeply drawn to what she loves. I have always grown up with different beliefs than my parents and I totally understand how she would feel in her position. Having the two main characters as opposites in almost every way, but still seeing a spark almost immediately between them, was one of the most romantic things I've ever seen. If you combine the passion and romance of West Side Story with the drama and tears of The Joy Luck Club, you will have a rough idea of the emotions in this movie.

Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!
(2022)

Iffy
Coming from a true-blue Scooby-Doo fanatic I can tell you that this movie is definitely different than anything else in the franchise. This movie is far from terrible, but still did not have most of the charm that any of the better movies had. The dialogue was hilarious, but the plot was a bit weak, even considering some of the crazy plots the gang has thwarted before. To be honest I thought the animation style looked creepy and unflattering.

There were also some inconsistencies based on the rest of the franchise that made it a little harder to follow. One of the biggest things that struck me was how all of these criminals had managed to even find Coolsville when most of the franchise has thrived on the idea of travelling across the country and even the world to find their mysteries. As proud as I want to be of the franchise for being so modern, it was a little jarring for Velma, my favorite character, to be seen with a crush on another woman. I didn't feel like it lined up with her character in the rest of the franchise.

Scooby-Doo! Music of the Vampire
(2012)

Pretty good
I don't know where Imdb got the description for this movie, because it's nowhere close to the plot. What it's really about is the gang heading to Little Bat Town for a bat-themed vacation after they get an invite from Vincent Van Helsing, a less than famous horror writer. During a performance from a vampire loving theatre troupe, it appears that the soul of a real undead bloodsucker has broken free from his coffin. With various clues and suspects lurking around it takes a while to solve this mystery. The overall plot was pretty good, but the music was a little overdone. It kind of seemed like a last-minute add-on to get people's attention and wasn't really necessary.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
(2003)

BEST SHOW OF ITS KIND
I've always loved just about everything to do with the Ninja Turtles franchise, but this show really takes the cake. The only thing keeping me from giving it a perfect 10 is that a couple of episodes were poorly written and some of the transitions between episodes could have been a lot better. The 1987 series focuses on comedy and comic book fighting, mostly with an ongoing battle with Shredder and Krang. The 2012 series focuses heavily on science fiction and obviously took inspiration from the Star Wars franchise. The 2003 series focuses on Japanese mythology and horror. Almost every episode grips you from beginning to end. Stunning graphics, attention to detail, and truly scary profiles for all of the villains. This show is so addictive it should come with a label.

Goodnight Mommy
(2022)

Ambiguous
Although the.timing of the film was excellent and the acting was outstanding, I was disappointed when the film ended too abruptly. There's a huge psychological angle to the movie, but I feel that there were too many questions left unanswered. Although I haven't seen the original Australian version, I feel like there was enough left out to leave me scratching my head at the end. Who was the mother talking to on the phone? Why was no one allowed in the office? Did the brothers ever have any of the same dreams, being twins? Where did they find their mother? What was the other woman trying to make them think had really happened?

The Buzz on Maggie
(2005)

Cutest show ever!
This show ended way too soon! Funny, original, and had some genuine life lessons! I also loved the music and the cast. Cree Summer and. David Kaufman were always on point.

Aaahh!!! Real Monsters
(1994)

Awesome!
Aaahh!! Real Monsters is a show like no other! It will make you gasp, jump, and roll around with laughter! The acting is superb and the timing is spot on! This show is an creative mix of situational comedy, satire, and dark humor. It ended too soon!

Tales from the Darkside: Effect and Cause
(1985)
Episode 11, Season 2

Lack Luster
Although the premise of the story was brilliant, it didn't reach anywhere near its full potential. The ending was very unsatisfying and left too many unanswered questions.

Crocodile
(2000)

Surprisingly good!
This movie actually strays away from a lot of horror movie cliches. The dialogue and the while situation was surprisingly realistic, and all the scares were right on point! The CGI had a startling amount of detail!

Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated
(2010)

BEST SHOW EVER!
There are enough twists and turns that you really have to pay attention to get this whole series, especially in the second half of season two. This isn't just a great twist on the Scooby-Doo that we all know and love, but it takes the strange and theoretical to a whole new level! A perfect blend of science fiction, mythology, mystery, and dark humor make this stand out above the rest!!
